Ag101 online - if you're taking this in order to fulfill your general ed with a good grade, DON'T! He's very demanding, he asks for a lot of reading and watching videos there's 5 papers and 5 quizes with only 12 questions each and no final. Only one group project, but it was hard too. He's approachable, but there's no way of improving your grade with extra credit. He's very particular about grammar and the paper's overall format. If you're a good reader/writer he's great for you! Grade Received: C+

Pros: Online

Lectures are online

Learn at own pace

Papers are easy

one project turned in online and to office
Cons: Group project if you don't go to selection day may not work out for you.

Grades paper harder then some english professors.
This was a relatively easy online course. The lectures and materials are all provided in modules online. Its your job to watch them and read the material. Which i did for about 5 seconds the first week. I did the papers in about 20 minutes and turned them in to turnitin.com usually about 10 minutes before they were due. and managed a B every time. He does not as far as i know give A's on the essays but he might. The group project can be a little stressful. make sure you go that day to pick your group that way you can get started early. You get a month to work on it. And its more then enough time. My group and i finished everything a week before it was due. This class was really a sleeper. I'm sure had i actually tried i could have gotten that A but i received a B+ for C effort. Honestly i probably would have hated to take the sit down version of this course. Online is the only way to go and Philips is the man to take it with.

Online Ag 101- If you are taking this Ag 101 to get an easy A and instead of going to the actual class DONT. The online class is a lot harder, I didnt want to go and sit in the class for two hours so I took this instead and it would have taken up less of my time actually going to the class. There are multiple long readings off websites, you have to listen to the two hour lectures from professors anyway, and watch additional videos that can be up to an hour long. There are quizzes that went along with each of the papers and it is what kept my grade at a B. And there is a group project at the end too, which was a pain! He said himself that he barely gives out any A's, so if you want an A in this class i recommend not taking it online. Grade Received: B+

Pros: - Textbook assignments but, I never read any of the text & still got an A.

- lectures are online

- kind & knowlegable professor

- sharing notes w/ neighbors permitted
Cons: - only in class assignments means having to show up to class in order to actually do them & recieve credit
He hates it when people are late, especially during presentations. Final is one presentation based on a previously written essay (a group paper). Dont say "thats it" when you're done speaking & smile, & pretend you know how to pronounce words you dont know how to pronounce = good grade in the final presentation.

Easy class.

Overall, this class was very chill. He gave us in class exercises and case studies where you find the answers in the book or in the worksheets. His online lectures are very boring so you are better off reading the book. There's a group project where you have to write an essay and present with power point on a specific country. There are no midterms and just one final exam. The exam is open book and open notes, but some problems are harder than it looks. This professor is very laid back so if you are looking for an easy class to fulfill the D2 GE section, take this class! Grade Received: A-

Pros: -easy class

-no homework

-meets once per week
Cons: -only counts for 2 units
Make sure you pay attention in class and on worksheets because questions on the final will be based off of some readings from in class assignments. I'd also recommend that you buy the textbook because it helps a lot for worksheets. The questions on the final were exactly the same as the ones of the study guide. But all in all, this class is an easy A and Phillips is a really nice guy. I realized that he knows each one of his students' names because when he passes back papers, he knows exactly who to give it to.

Nice guy. Decent choice to fill in a GE course. Unfortunately, the class itself was boring. The lectures are on powerpoint and he basically just reads off what he typed (listening and note-taking not necessary). One exam, open book. One paper, with short ~5 minute presentation. Attendance is actually important because there are in-class assignments that can't be made up, and they take up a large majority of your grade. Bring something to keep you entertained because he sounds like the clear-eyes/ferris beuller professor guy. Grade Received: B

Phillips is nice, approachable guy. He begins each class with some random youtube video, which sometimes is inappropriate. He takes attendance through the inclass assignments. The assignments are open book, open neighbor, and open questions; if you ask for help, he will help you. There is one group project and only one exam. The group project graded strangely. It's separated in a total group grade and also individual grade. The exam is open book and notes. I finished the class with an A.

Pros: Really straight forward, no final exam, pretty easy material.
Cons: Incredibly boring, hard to stay focused.
Took it as an online course & got an A-. You have to write a less than 800 words essay and do a 12 question quiz for each unit. Grades the writing pretty laid back. Video lectures are incredibly boring, but the quiz questions come straight from the videos, so take notes & you'll do fine. There's also no final, which is awesome. Just a group research paper.

Pros: Really funny guy
This guy is really weird. He plays Japanese Pop music as you walk in and he dances to it and stuff but its kinda hilarious. He gives easy case studies as in class assignments everyday, and his final is open book and notes. Also, the project he gives is a group project and doesn't take much time or effort. Possibly the easiest class at Cal poly.

AG 101 Online - This was a very hard class and I don't recommend taking this online. There is tons of work (reading, essays, responses, videos and movies) which are all a waste of time. The reason I got a C- is because he didn't receive one of the essays that I turned in (everything is through turnitin.com and blackboard). Grade Received: C-

This was suprisingly an easy class even with the 5 page paper you have to write on a country. The rest of the work he gives in class and theres plenty of time to get it done in class. A presentation on your country at the end. he grades pretty hard on the paper but its only worth a small percentage of your grade. Grade Received: B+

Pros: He truly is passionate about what he teaches. He is a very truthful about how your writing is on papers he assigns. If you did very well on a paper he will go above and beyond to let everyone in the class know that you wrote a great paper.
Cons: Sometimes he is a little to truthful and offends people and hurts their feelings. He can sometimes come across as being rude. He sometimes will have class and blab on about nonsense that deals with agriculture and you know won't be on the exam.
He was an alright teacher... At first I really liked his class but towards the end I deeply hated the class. He started getting to the point where it was pointless to show up to class. I had better things to do than sit there and listen to nonsense but yet he still would do attendance two times throughout the class. So since he did that you were obligated to sit there and pretend you really cared about off topics on agriculture. The whole class consisted of him doing slides and you having to write notes super fast to get down enough information. He for some reason refuses to post notes ahead of time online... The class also consists of only one midterm and final. The rest of the class is a group project and papers. The papers are very easy so that's what can help you receive a good great.

Pros: He has that awkward sense of humor you can laugh at and act like you are laughing with him... Luckily he knows he is awkward and still continues to rant on at times for us to laugh "along".
Cons: This class may be an upper division class, but if you only need it for GE and want an easy A, don't take it. It is very abstract and hard to stay on top of things when you are afraid of offending the professor with your beliefs and getting marked down.
I highly recommend a different class to anyone looking to take this to fulfill upper level GE classes!

this was one of the best classes i have taken so far. whenever i can take dr. phillips again i will. there were 3 test that were all open note and open book. there was one paper due week 8 on a company and there was no final because all you had to do was give a presentation on the company you did for your paper. dr. p is a great teacher who tries to keep the class interested and makes jokes that seem to be off topic but they are funny so it doesn't even matter. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!!! Grade Received: A

He is one of the nicest professors I've EVER met. No homework, all tests are open book/note, several in-class assignments, and 1 paper + short presentation on an ag-related business of your choice. If you take notes on his lectures(they are also on BlackBoard) and read the book, the tests should be a breeze. Overall easy class. He takes attendance almost daily, and I recommend going to class anyways because he'll sometimes go over future test questions. There's no reason to NOT pass this class.

This class is very reasonable, there aren't any quizzes nor does he do a final. Just take some notes on his power points so you can reference them later when you have to write papers. There is a lot to write, but as long as you write the papers and do the main projects in the class you'll get an A. He is super friendly and the funniest teacher ever! His warm ups are awesome and the Wonder Girls Rock!!! (you'll know what I mean) Grade Received: A
