EWS 370 - Women and Law
She is a very intelligent professor and human being. She knows what she is talking about. Although this is a GE this class is hard. It does required a LOT OF READING. If you do your part you will be good. There is one presentation and several papers due.
Pros: NO TEST ON THIS CLASS.
Cons: A LOT OF READING, AND I MEAN A LOT OF READING.

Take her if you LOVE reading and are a REALLY GOOD writer and....you actually have the extra time to do all that. Otherwise, take someone else.
Pros: There was no quiz, no exam, no need to write notes.
The lecture was engaging, and sometimes she would have a little fun exercises to do in class.
Cons: Her points system was ridiculous; every week we had to read about 10-15 pages and write a response paper, which worth only TWO points.
Also, when she said one page of response paper, it really meant one FULL page and only one or two paragraphs in it. If it was not full, or you wrote in too many paragraphs, she would cut ONE point, and if you turned it in late, she would cut another HALF point. Did I say RIDICULOUS?

Pros: This class is taught by a Cal Poly Pomona Alumn who is now a full time Lawyer ( Worker's Compensation). Professor Rad's class is challenging and extremely informative. You will never be bored in this class and will learn more than a thing or two in every session. Professor Rad does a great job of walking you through the History of the Law and our Legal system and always makes connections to what's going on today.

You will learn new things you never knew were so important and relevant to your life, like community property :D (Ladies and Gentlemen get those pre-nups/ post-nups done!). You will gain a new sense of confidence because you will be more aware of your rights and you will also be challenged to think more critically about social issues and how they are affected by our laws and vice versa.

Professor Rad also invites a really well qualified group of individuals to give special talks in relation to the topic for that week. For example, she had a Therapist talk about issues pertaining to women the feminist movement and she had a Partner in a Law Firm talk about

her experiences being a woman and negotiating her position in a male dominated profession.

Professor Rad herself is really quite inspirational! She is so young, so well established and a major humanitarian! She loves to help people out whenever and however she can and you will walk away from this course feeling a burst of inspiration to make your own positive contribution to the world. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
Cons: I wish the class had two parts, there was just so much more information that could not be covered in one quarter. If this class had a part 2, I would have taken it!
Professor Rad is a Cal Poly Pomona Alumn so she is really able to connect well with the students and cares about her students success. She is very attentive and extremely giving of her time. She is always willing and eager to help her students with any problems they may be facing especially as it pertains to the law. Her passion is in mentoring her students and helping them reach their full potential. If you are someone who is considering going to law school, this is the person you need to talk to! Professor Rad will help you out step by step through the process and always follows through to see how you're doing. Definitely one of the nicest and caring Professors.

In response to the previous post on here, the homework is fair and definitely manageable. As a college student, reading 10-15 pages a week for one class is standard. Realistically we are supposed to be reading about 100 pages a week ( given we are full time students) so in my opinion, the person who posted the other comment is just not used to ACTUALLY doing the homework...

In regards to her point system, she is really fair. In fact, I'm surprised she didn't grade a little harder. I don't think that because the homework is only worth 2 points that her point system is ridiculous, considering the assignment is only one full page and not 3 or 4.

Overall, I think that this class is one of the most important classes any student can take in their tenure as undergrads and is extremely beneficial not just for women but for everyone. We encounter the law so much in our everyday lives and I believe that it is important to be knowledgable of how/why certain laws were made and also how they are impacting us or how they will potentially impact us in the future.
