If you're planning to take GEO100 for GE, DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. The workload is light you just need to read 1 or 2 chapters a week which consiste of abou 20-40 pgs each. One day he lectures and the other we answer questions in groups and discuss them once were done. He gives 4 quizzes (The questions are really random), he drops the lowest one you have. He also gives 2 midterms, which are about 40 questions multiple choice. About two questions from the midterm was from the reading and discussion. I always read and take notes from the book and the discussions and I got a 24/40. This one guy who has missed about 3 lectures and doesn't read the book got 28/40. You can pass his midterms if you're a good bullshitter. AVOID this class, take a class where your professor will provide you with solid organized information and study guides, not a professor that expects you to know the most random facts ever. Please Listen to me don't make the mistake I made

Pros: -friendly

-knows what he is talking about

-4 surprise quizzes, drops the worst one

-curves a lot!

-might think you are failing but your not :)

Cons: -A lot of reading(about 60 pages a week)

-boring on lecture days

-Tests are on random stuff

-Doesn’t narrow down what on tests
One day is lecture, a other day is with a group. With the group you answer 6 questions and you can use your book. The questions are on the chapter that you are suppose to read that week but we go over them after class. There is a lot of reading and I read for the first midterm but did terrible on it cause the questions seemed irrelevant to what the book is about. The second midterm I didn’t read and did even a bit better then the first time. I didn’t study for midterm or final and didn’t read but still passed class with a C+ which seemed to be a shock because I thought I was going to get an F. Everyone was stressing about not passing the class but we did because he grades with the median of all scores which is better then curving the grade.

Pros: Disorganized. Class lacks structure.
Cons: Funny. Witty. Knowledgeable. Actually has a personality.
As of 2011, I would not recommend this class for a GE. I feel like the workload is light-- read 1 or 2 chapters a week and no other homework. One day he lectures, the other day you work in a group answering questions. He gives four quizzes (5 multiple choice) and drops the lowest one. He gives two midterms and 1 final (40 multiple choice). The problem with this class are the tests. There is almost NO relevance to the questions on the test. Only about 5-10% of the test questions were actually from the book or lecture. Everything else was completely random (this is coming from a person who has pays attention and does the reading). AVOID this class unless you grasp a good understanding on how to answer random questions that have nothing to do with the course.

Reibel is on the level. Lectures are based on the powerpoints he reads off so you can print and download them of blackboard. Every Wednesday there is a group discussion with 6 or 7 people. You answer 6 questions from the chapter that week and post the answers on blackboard. Each group answers one question in class. He encourages questions so ask them if you got one. In lecture he'll ask you "make my day questions" as where is the UN located or something like that so answer them if you know it. There is NO HOMEWORK but reading so do it. Believe me it helps for discussion and down the road for the exams. Overall, there is a midterm, final, and paper (1000 words tops or 4 pages). So READ and go to class you'll do fine. Mr. Reibel is an awesome guy and friendly person but difficult to like as a teacher. He requires you to be responsible to read on your own which is challenging because you never know what he wants you to study specifically. His lectures are somewhat dull and it can be hard to focus on listening to him lecture. You should attend his lectures because some of the material he talks about is on his tests. He gives 4 quizzes and takes the best 3, all are written quizzes, and all his finals and midterms are multiple choice. If you are a good note taker and can retain lots of information from reading text then I recommend this class. Grade Received: B-

I am not quite sure about this teacher...I mean its interesting stuff and all but he makes it so difficult for it being a GE. Plus he doesnt give out studyguides and will not even say what will be on the test. Ok sure we should know all the material but ITS TOO MUCH and not really that interesting. I found myself sleeping through class a couple of times. If you can take another teacher.

Reibel is rediculous! all his powerpoints are just pictures and he talks about them which is nothing that is in the book. He also goes off topic so much and the man loves to hear himself talk. I suggest in taking a different teacher. He is a nice guy it is just a really boring class.

Boy did i had to scratch my way up to get that B. He gives no study guide which makes it a bitch to study for any of his tests. The textbook that he has us buy is just nuts. Each chapters are like 60 freaking pages long and each of his tests consists of at least 5 chapters. We had to read and study 300 pages worth of information and stuff without anything to guide us or narrow down and his test only have like 40 to 50 questions max. He gives out 4 quizzes, drops the lowest one and adds the rest of the 3 highest onto your final grade (wish he woulda done that for the tests). He makes you work your butt off to get the grade you want, so if your a slacker and hate work, its the best idea not to take him. Besides all of that he is a very friendly, approachable, and a sociable guy, i just felt like i accomplished so much getting that B on my report card. Grade Received: B+

At first I thought that I liked Dr. Reibel, however I found out what a short tempered a-hole he is. Even more than that, he is a really vague teacher. My main complaint is that he told us that our final would be scantron-multiple choice so I studied how anyone would for a multiple choice test. When we got to class he said that writing a multiple choice exam was crap so he gave us an essay exam. I went to every single boring class of his, took good notes and failed the final. I have no problem with essay exams, but it takes a certain kind of studying style. I won't say DONT TAKE THIS GUY but just be ready for his laziness and bad teaching techniques. He is an asshole.

I have mixed feelings about this teacher. On the one hand he is a fountain of interesting knowledge and on the other his teaching style can be boring. He can be very sarcastic which is fun sometimes but other times it is just irratating. He seems upset a lot fo the time at the lack of participation but his presentation is dull. So it is hard to want to participate. He needs something to spruce up his lectures. Tests are tricky. They are multiple choice but they will get you if you aren't paying attention to the wording. The paper is easy. Attendance isn't crucial but it's good to go because he will thow in stuff from lecture that isn't in the book.

Mr Reibel was a nice guy. The class was very entertaining and informational. This was one of the few classes that i actually looked forward to going too. The class consists of two tests and one 2-3 page paper. The tests are not cumulative and the paper is really easy. He tells u exactly what he wants in it and all u gotta do is find information on a particular town or city. The class was pretty easy. U DO NOT need the book at all. Everything u need to know he talks about in class. If u goto every class its an easy A. He lectures the whole time but its not boring at all. He'll get the class into it and makes it really fun. I recommend him.

Really cool guy. He knows what he is talking about and he has a pretty good sense of humor. But unless you are really interested in this subject, the class is going to be very boring. All he does is lecture to the class using powerpoint. He doesn't cover everything from the book in his lectures. You have 2 tests and a paper for the whole class. The paper is pretty easy, but you really need to know the information to do well on the tests. He doesn't give you any study guides or anything to prepare, so basically you just have to know everything. I found this class to be pretty hard, but maybe it was just hard to pay attention.

I agree. His lectures can be boring. It's all powerpoint the whole quarter, so he's just up there talking the whole time, and it's hard to get involved when everyone is so bored. He said at the beginning of the quarter he does not take roll, so a lot of people don't show up- could be good or bad. He does use lecture material on the tests. The paper is very easy, no more than 3 pages, and 2 tests. He seems kind of cocky to me, he tells scarcastic jokes and sometimes laughs at you when you ask a question. Overall, easy class for those who don't want to show up every time.

This teacher really about what he is teaching. His eyes light up as soon as he starts the lecture. His love for the subject is very inspiring and helps spark interest in his students. Don't try to take advatage of his easygoing personality because he won't let you. His test are far from difficult but to do well on them you do have to study. One thing that he could change is to give study guides. He just asks us to study everything weve gone over in class, and for a full time student who also works full time that can be overwhelming.

I'm going to be completely honest here. If you took a cultural geography class in high school, this is the same exact thing. He uses alot of big words and the text makes it seem like there is too much to know, but honestly, i went to a total of 5 lectures and i passed his class with a B just off of prior knowledge. His lectures are very boring and he just goes straight off of powerpoint. He hates Bush, so if you're conservative, keep your mouth shut, i learned the hard way. Grade Received: B-

This class surprised me, thought it would be easier than it was...in all terms it is an easy class, just he grades hard. It's nearly impossible to get an A in the class, even if you turn in all the work and do well on the tests. Class is curved, thought it would help, but made it worse...his test have material in it that is neither in the book or lecture Grade Received: C+

Pros: He helps you constantly and gets one on one to help with the final project
Cons: None
Dr.Reibel is an awesome professor. His class is based on his lectures so dont forget to take notes because his quiz's result directly from it. Also if your a GIS major, put in alot of work in the final project because that will be the one your going to work on the following course.

I recommend this class for the students who speak English as the first language because the difficulty of this class is only English. There is only Midterm 30%, paper 25%, Final 35% and attendance 10%. He randomly checked the attendance twice, but you can nod off easily and safely. Grade Received: B-

Generally a nice person but if you're not going to class just to hear a teacher rant about his views on society...then don't take this class. At this point, I wish I didn't take this class.
