i took this class because it was the only class open. i really didn't want to take this professor after reading the horrible reviews, but i didnt have a choice. he is the rudest professor ive ever had. it was kind of discouraging. he wants people to participate but will make you feel like an idiot if you dont answer correctly. or even if you ask a question that he feels like its a stupid question he will make it known. and whats sad is that he knows it himself that students feel that hes rude and even made a comment about it in class saying "maybe ive been teaching for too long" if you're unhappy then retire. we dont need professors who put us down and discourages us. bottom line is take another professor if you can.

Pros: curve, participation points, posts solutions to homework and practice exams on blackboard
Cons: could care less about his students learning, heavy accent, rude, business calculator illerate
Worst teacher ever, take anyone else!!!! Only redeeming quality is that he curves. Heavy accent. Has no interest in teaching or whether his students learn anything. Rude and condescending. Rambles on and on about loving the Celtics, and hating the Lakers, and then zooms through the calculations, doing multiple steps in his head, with no explanation where he got the numbers, or where he's going with them. If you ask him to repeat something, or where he got the numbers, he gets mad and insults you. The business calculator, allowed on all exams, can do almost every type calculation you need in this class, much quicker than the long hand way, but you are on your own to figure it out and how. He does everything the long hand way, in record time, so there's no way to follow his way anyway. I finally sat and just played with the calculator for hours till I figured some of it out. Every other teacher of this class teaches how to have the calculator save time doing a lot of the tedious math, so you can learn the concepts, but not him. He does give participation points for answering his questions in class. They are tough to get, but really boost your final grade! To get them, the question must be tough enough that only you could answer it, and it stumped everyone else. They are random questions from real life finance situations, not covered in the book, powerpoint, or lecture. If you answer wrong, no points, which is fair. No homework is turned in, but you need to do what he assigns if you want to pass the exams. He posts the solutions to them on blackboard, very helpful. The practice exams are extremely helpful! He posts the solutions to them on blackboard too. Don't know how, but I got an A=. I did have a few participation points, but mostly there must have been an awesome curve!

the worst teacher i have ever taken. 6 quizzes. 1 midterm. 1 final. HW given with solutions but nothing to hand in. tells you what to study exactly for all the tests/quizzes and when you get the test, it is nothing what you studied. so you have wasted your time. to do good in his class you need to know absolutely everything. a prick when it comes to answering your questions. you better be smart as hell or dont even bother. rushed our class everytime because there was always big headlines in iran where he is from and he wanted to follow it, so our class was always 1.5 hours or less. because of this all the lectures were rushed and because he teaches like you know everything already, you come out of class clueless. you need to buy a 400 page notebook worth $30. it was so annoying using it becasue the pages were printed in landscape so you need to move the book from side to side to see each page. you will know what i mean if you take him. takes forever to grade your quizzes. dont disregard what im saying and dont even think you will study hard for this class and do good because you wont! the guy should not be a teacher. hands down, 100%, messed up, worst, a jerk, lazy, no cosideration of a teacher. avoid!

Okay...so every bit of effort that I put forth is being flushed down the drain or so I feel!! He reads straight from the transparencies, will not fully work through any problems, cuts you off in the middle of you asking a question, very impacient, favors the ones who understand in a blink of an eye, makes you feel small if you do not catch on or understand the reasoning behind in. I had to go to the tutor to understand the material. He has you buy a financial calculator, but WILL NOT teach you how to use it-you have to read the manual, once again I went to the tutor for assistance. Test are tough, and are not always related to what he discusses in class. Brags about how over his 15 yrs. of teaching he fails more than half of his students and the rest walk with a D! In my opinion, he understands his material inside and out, but he has a HUGE problem teaching the material...he enjoys making your life hell! If you have him good luck!

Prof Sohrabian is pretty funny guy (not intentionally though). Be prepared to study..its not an easy class or topic. It's probably wise to study for the first exam because it will be the easiest exam in the class. He is not as bad as people say he is...but you have to study on your own too Grade Received: C

One of the worst professors I have ever taken. He gave practice tests and told us to study them and the lecture and then would test on things he rarely went over in class. He sucks and I'd rather poke my eye out than go through another class with this jerk.

Pros: Lectures are online

Unlimited Homework Attempts

Curves Test (to the highest person's grade)

Rewards Extra Credit to those who participate
Cons: Plays Favorites

Doesn't teach you how to use the financial calculator

Lecture Examples often need to be "corrected"

Lectures are oversimplified
Professor Sohrabian's class is just very difficult. His class consists of Homework (but they don't seem to raise your grade that much), 2 midterms, and 1 Final (which all FRL 300 students take on the SATURDAY before finals week). His notes are very straightforward and he knows what he is talking about, but his lectures were too overly simplified and didn't go deeply into the concepts. Most of his examples are very straightforward, but the homework and test questions ARE NOT AT ALL similar to his lecture problems. He also does not TEACH you how to use the Financial Calculator as it is "not his responsibility". He does seem to play favorites and even when you raise your hand to participate for extra credit points, he seems to always call on the same group of people (WHO DO NOT RAISE THEIR HANDS AND JUST SHOUT OUT THE ANSWERS). Professor Sohrabian does curve the tests a little bit, but he usually just curves it to the highest person's score (which isn't actually a lot)

I've been a straight A student all my life and I'm not a slacker, but I worked so hard for this class and it always felt like my efforts were in vain. The professor expected us to know the answers, and when I went to his office hours for help, he was very rude and belittled me for not knowing how to do the problems. I read the book, went to ever class, actively did homework, and in the end, I barely managed to get a B- in this class. If you end up getting stuck with this professor like I did, I wish you the best of luck.

Most negative comments about him on this board is true. Unfortunately, he is the only one who teaches 453. Many FRL students have to go through this hell for 11 weeks. Multinational finance is an important (and must-learn) subject for FRL/business student. If you do not need the credit (and grade) but interest in multinational finance, just buy the book and learn on your own (to save your hard-earned tuition $$). I had more than ten business classes in CPP business school. He is the first (and hopefully last) professor from whom I learn nothing. I have to teach myself throughout the quarter. This guy read straight off the notes (which is sold in bookstore) and cares little if we know what he is taking about. Plus, he does not mind to fail anybody; almost half of the class got a D or F in the midterm. He is more concerned on finishing his lecture, hand out exams; instead of the most important thing in teaching: getting the message across to make sure the students really learn something. He said he taught this course for 20 years. If that is true, it is a curse for all FRL students instead of a blessing. I feel sorry for those students who had three different FRL classes with him in the same quarter.

This class is extremely difficult and the professor is extremely mean... And yet I still kind of enjoyed taking the class... Go figure... lol... From the get go, the concepts in this class are quite difficult... It only gets more difficult as the class goes on... And the professor continually belittles people and makes them feel stupid...

}For example: The class after the midterm (which is not the hardest test you will ever take) he asked a question. This guy answered with the right answer... The teacher looked at him kind of surprised that he knew the answer and said, well I am glad to see you can answer questions in class because you don't seem to be able to do it on the midterm...

}I was shocked!!!

}Anyways, I would not recommend taking this class unless you have extremely good math skills, don't mind being belittled, and have a strong knowledge of finance concepts... I am an IBM student that has strong math skills but I would not recommend this class to anyone who doesn't NEED it...

Since the first day of the class, I am suffering that whether I can "pass" this course or not. I took FRL 315 with him, therefore, I totally know his style, nevertheless, I was suffering for whole quarter! He tried to teach, but when you see the quiz and midterm, your brain will be blank for a whole, because you do not know how to answer those questions most of the time. The only advantage in his classes is that you do not have project, paper, presentation and you do not have to spend too much time to study his courses. Nevertheless, do not think his classes are easy, otherwise, you will know what the hell looks like.....

PS: Do not waste money to purchase textbook even he says it is necessary, did not even look at one page of the textbook. Grade Received: B+

People told me he was a pretty good teacher to take for FRL, but I still don't see why. He doesn't do a very good job teaching, nor is he friendly and someone you can freely ask questions, he disrespects the class almost every day, he just assumes the class is easy for everyone, and he's happy failing the class and it doesn't bother him at all. The average grade for this class is a C-. Class has 2 midterms and a final. The first one is the easiest, so make sure to do well on that. Then the next two gets really difficult, so try to keep up. He gives a practice test before the first 2 midterms... it's alot easier than the actual test, but still it helps to go through it. I don't recommend him, unless you're really good at learning materials by yourself.

Pros: Cures exams a little

Straight forward class
Cons: Kind of rude

Difficult to get extra credit unless you KNOW the subject
He was one of the rides professors I've very had, it made me afraid to answer his questions for extra credit since he would give you a hard time if you were wrong. He definitely has favorites that he always calls on, which makes it even harder to gain extra credit participation points, which you need 10 of to get your grade bumped up. The homework is pretty easy, the exams are ok, but the concept based questions are difficult. It seems like he always has 2 or 3 questions on the exam that have an extra step to them than what we did in the homework, so that sucks since unless you REALLY know your stuff you won't be able to answer it.

Pros: -Likes teaching the class

-plenty of sample problems in class

-homework not too hard, all online

-EC given for answering questions in class
Cons: -sometimes rude to students

-Often doesn't like to answer questions on sample problems during lecture
This is a class that you can't slack off in, if you work hard in the class and show up to every lecture you will do perfectly fine. He can be a little rude at times if someone asks a stupid question or makes him go way back in the question to answer it, ask questions as he goes don't hesitate. Homework was all online, first exam was really hard but the second midterm and the final weren't too bad as long as you knew the material

This professor seems to know his stuff, but he lacks the ability to help others understand the material, he rushes through his lectures. He is a nice guy, sarcastic, and funny at times. He does not collect homework--he just gives you a list of problems to prepare for the 2 midterms and final--he also posts the answer key to the problems on Blackboard. If you read the book, and complete the problems assigned on each of the chapters you should not have a problem... basically you learn on your own as with anything in life. If the class is running on the boring side, talk to him about basketball, he loves the Boston Celtics, and likes to talk smack about the Lakers... Grade Received: C+

Pros: Fairly easy quizzes and exams.

His print outs tell you everything you need for them.

Fairly generous grader.
Cons: Doesn't teach at all, other than in his his print outs.

Doesn't follow the book at all, all over the place, so you're on your own to teach yourself.

Mean and rude!!!
Hands down, THE WORST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD!!! He's mean and rude, and doesn't teach anything! The only good thing about him is his easy quizzes and exams, and generous grading. His printouts on blackboard are all you need for the quizzes and exams, no surprises. But if you actually want to learn something, take someone else. If you dare ask a question in class or his office, be prepared to be humiliated!

Reads straight from lecture notes; however, the notes have a number of errors, that means that you have to attend class, otherwise don't even waste your time attending. Do all the problems from the solution manual and you'll be fine. Don't bother readind the book (or don't even spend your money on it) he never, never, never refers to it. All you need to do in order to pass the class is to do all the problems (which are fairly easy). This 'professor' does not care about teaching, has been using the same notes, with the same errors, for years. Hint! he uses the same quizes and case problems year after year. DO NOT TAKE THIS INSTRUCTOR UNLESS YOU WANT TO FAIL. This instructor is the biggest asshole at CAL POLY, he accent is very thick, 1/2 the time in class is spent trying to understand what the hell he is saying. His lectures are read straight from the book, this guy cant teach for SHIT!!!! He spends the other 1/2 bragging about how he teaches at the UNIVERSITY OF SPOILED CHILDREN. 3/4's of the class rather just take an F because they know by the 6th week its impossible to drop and he will not drop you for any reason. When i took the final 3/4's of the class didnt show up, i guess they rather take the F than deal with his class.

This man knows everything there is to know about finance. He teaches very clearly but if you ask a question, he is very sarcastic and rude. Although he encourages questions and comments, you have to be willing to get embarrassed. In his office, totally different person. He is much more helpful and nice about what you are concerned with. You just never know where you stand with him. Very strange. Exams are a little misleading. He will throw you off and guide you in another direction with reviews. Gives a good curve. Overall, very intelligent and presentable but horrible personality and just plain rude. Grade Received: B-

The class is very tough. His inexpensive powerpoint handout from the bookstore is great for in-class notes. The book is useful for examples, but he gives you the answers online. He provides previous tests online for studying. There are 2 midterms and a common final. He also gives credit for participation in which he will bump your grade. He is a great teacher, but he demands respect and preparation. If you attend class every day and put in time before tests, you can easily pass the class. With some effort a B is possible, but the common final will bring you down if you don't review old information. Grade Received: B
