Abstract Algebra II

Pros: Her homework is always based on previous work from her lectures and book, therefore answering problems is not too difficult but they are challenging. But she purposely gives you a lot of homework, since the midterms and finals are based on those problems.

Cons: For some the weekly homework could be a lot of work.

She is the best math teacher on campus, she truly cares about her students and their progress on each of her classes. I've had her in three different math courses, and though each subject is different her teaching methods are the same. Her lectures are engaging, you get to work and learn from her and other peer students. If you go to class and do the homework the midterms and final will be a piece of cake. Don't get me wrong each math subject is challenging but she makes the subject easier to understand. I have nothing but good things to say about her. Take her classes if you have the change to!

Hann should be the model for other instructors in the math dept. She`s the 5th math instructor I`ve had and is easily the best. She focuses on teaching *concepts* rather than rote memorization of facts. Too many teachers just give you an algorithm for how to solve a problem but don`t explain why it works, so if you come across a problem that doesn`t quite fit the parameters of the algorithm, you get stuck.

She`s very helpful during office hours (and even via email); she clearly wants students to understand the course material.

The only criticisms I have is that I wish she`d summarize after explaining new concepts. Sometimes there`s a lot of info to try to digest (and she even acknowledges that), so a summation of the ideas and steps for solving a certain type of problem would help it gel. Almost forgot, homework is due every class period, so be prepared.

I am currently taking 1820 right now and I decided since people base their decisions on what professor to take from this website, I thought it will be helpful to tell you about her based on the Winter quater 05. This is by far the best professor that I have had in CSUH. Her lectures are very clear and helpful. I don't like math, but with a professor like her you begin to appreciate it and enjoying it. There are two midterms (which I scored 100% on) and a final. She assigns homework everyday, but don't worry it is not a lot and it is very helpful, besides it is an easy way to get 15% of you overall grade. take this professor. She is a cool kat and you will learn and have fun. She deserves an A++

Best math teacher I have ever had, hands down. The only way that you will not like her is if you are a certified genius, because she goes nice and slow, provides practice in class, welcomes questions, fully reviews all homework, and gives a full class of review before each midterm and final. For all of us regular folks, this is just what we need to do well in a math class. TIP: Do the homework and extra credit--they are easy points. Even if you do not have time to do it thoroughly, at least show an effort. I had her for Calc II and III and am registered to take her for linear algebra next quarter. Simply the best.

She is one of the nicest profs on campus. She enjoys this subject and has a great amount of energy and enthusiasm. Homeworks are due every class but they are easy, short and very helpful. She also gives 3 extra credit assignments. There's 2 midterms and a final. The study guide and exams look identical so just study them carefully. She also allows u to have a 3 by 5 notecard in exams. Her class was never boring and went by really fast b/c she made everyone laugh.

She is one of the best math professors in this school. Always comes to the class well-prepared, her explanation is clear, cares about students understandings. However, assignes too much homework; four assignments a week, and one assignment will take two to five hours to finish, so you have to spend at least eight hours, and sometimes more than 20 hours for this one class. Especially the group work could be annoying if you`re too busy to co-op with someone else.

She's a super helpful instructor. I didn't get as good of a grade as I had wanted, but that wasn't her fault. Math Analysis is just a really tough class and you have to put a lot of work into it if you want to do well in it. Kathy is very friendly and is always happy to help you whenever you need it, so take advantage of her office hours. She also gives out class points as well as extra credit points to help improve your grade when necessary.

Great professor! She definitely makes you love Math by making her class fun and interesting. She knows her stuff and explains the material very well. She moves at a good pace, and always makes sure students are comfortable with what has been taught before she moves on to new material. I definitely recommend her, especially for all of you who don't like Math or just don't find it easy; she makes it understandable, interesting and FUN!

Ms Hann is cool, she goes that extra mile to make sure you know everything before you move on. Assigns daily HW, gives reviews for the midterms and the final and allows notes for the tests. Overall a good teacher, if you're the type of student that needs to be paced by the teacher, she's excellent. Otherwise, there are profs like Malek, who don't assign HW problems for classes like Linear, but you still learn alot.

I`m affirmative for setting "Kathy-Hann" standard, too. Took Cal II and CalIII successively from her, and met most of CalII class students in the CalIII class; now I should say, "where else?". She made even CalIII`s *pinnacle*, power series, a FUN. If you hate math, you should take it from her. She will turn you into a math lover. A lot of homework? True; but if you do it out of fun, what matters about it?

Hann is not an easy professor. Her assignments are some of the toughest from the book, and her tests are bone-chilling. However, she is the most prepared professor I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. Her classes are always on-topic, and her responses intelligent and insightful. She`ll give your brain a run for your money, but I now take classes specifically because she teaches them. So there.

Best professor I've ever had! She explains everything thorougly in class and all her tests are quite easy as long as you do your homework, there's no way you can fail this course! She collects hw in every class but only grades one problem so it's not so bad since most of the problems she assigns are odd anyways. There are only 2midterms and one final besides the hw she assigns for every class.

She is a great teacher. I learned a lot taking her classes. She know's that the material is difficult for us to understand so she takes a little more time to make sure we know what we are doing before we move on in lecture. She does a lot of examples in class as a way for us to practice before we do homework and to help with the tests. I highly recommend you take her. You will not regret it.

I wouldn't say Kathy is easy she is FAIR. SHE IS THE BEST MATH TEACHER AT CSUEB! TAKE HER! She is good she gives you clear examples and then gives you lots of practice. She makes you work with people in class. She is smart but is also a really good teacher. They should pay her more since I haven't heard one bad thing about her and all of the rest of the math dept. is poop!

There should be a "Kathy Hann" standard amongst math professors. If every instructor was as good as her, life at CSUH would be much more enjoyable. Her lectures are organized and flow nicely. She totally knows what she`s talking about. She always asks the class if there are any questions. She gives 2 midterms, 1 final, weekly homework, and extra credit homework.

I just completed Dr. Hann's 1820 math class and she is by far the best teacher I have ever had. Their is daily homework but it's an easy 15% of your grade and she only grades 1 problem out of the whole assignment. Her exams are similar to the review sheets.. I would reccomend her to anyone considering her as a teacher!

You get to use 3x5 notecard on the first and second and exam and on the final you get to use a 8.5x11 sheet. Take her class!
