ANTH 110 - Human Past: Anthropology and Prehistoric Archeology
Powell was very excited about the subject. You could tell he enjoyed teaching it. The class was a little dry, definitely had to be into anthropology to appreciate it. Overall I enjoyed the class and got an easy A. Two midterms and 1 final all multiple choice. Very nice guy

this dude always had something to talk about, and ok I know that it's his job. But he could've been an anthropologist or sociologist but not a teacher. he asks too much from his students, he lectures about different topics and for about 6 weeks or so he expect you to be anthropologists and write a paper from an anthropological point of view. He curved his grades but still, at the end the class did bad and our grades weren't so good. When he's not explaining a video but he's just talking you just see the time minute after minute and can't wait to be done. 3 exams, one paper not so engaging, referred to the book a lot of times, if you didn't go to a lecture there's no way that he will give you his presentations. He's not a good guy, but when you know that there are other teachers teaching Anthr and Soc, just don't choose him. I wanted Storniolo but her classes were full so I just stayed at his class. Bad decision overall.

2**
Pros: 1) You are inside a building.

2) You learn something new

) Final grade curved
Cons: 1) Hard grader

2) he says the exam does not get into extreme details but it does

3) unorganized
If you have to take his class, take it as a last resort. In order to get an A:

1) Read all materials in the book, study power points

2) takes notes in class, especially when he talks while watching movies (btw a lot of movies) literally write down word for word when he talks during a movies, 30% of exams are from movies

3) 2 exams 1 final, exam 1 extremely difficult, 2 a little easier, final 40% of question taken directly as they appear from exam 1&2. and a final project, a paper on a topic he will assign and give the format to, all you have to do is just write the Anthropological perspective section, rest is research.

4)final grades are curved, based on his gradings scale i should have gotten a C+, but he gave me a B

ANTH 110
Human Past: Anthropology and Prehistoric Archeology
3***
Pros: Straight forward tests

Nice guy willing to work with students
Cons: Very boring monotone speaker

Heavy on reading

Class attendance is crucial
Very nice guy that helps you out when needed. Tests were more difficult then they should have been and the material isn't taught in a positive way. Boring lectures going over slides in a dark classroom. Very easy to lose focus and dose off. Only other thing is he tried to convince us all Anthropology was the major we should all switch to.

Pros: Easy class. Easy teacher.
Cons: He is so boring it is unfathomable. My ass hurt an hour into the class and he keeps you for most of the 3 hours (night class) most of the weeks. Sucks at lecturing, but gives you the slides so you don't even have to pay attention.
Take notes on the notes at bottom of each power point slide. I spent hours at my boring coop reading the boring book for pretty much nothing. Slides have all you need to know. His 'review' sheet is not at all coherent. Just take notes on the slides. He loves anthropology but the class should not be three hours a week and he is just so boring. I am playing skyrim while writing this review, the week before the final. It's easy to get an A if you do the notes but it took me an entire exam to understand how to study for him.

Drexel... why in hell is this class part of a set of required courses? How, as a Bio major, am I benefited by this bone-dry class? Take it during coop or something but be ready for a snorefest.

I had Professor Powell at 8am and I pretty much fell asleep everytime. So many people did. And I don't think it was just because it was so early. I found the class to be really boring, and felt I learned just as much, if not more in my high school sociology class. The workload is really light - three exams and a final project. He teaches directly from the textbook, so there's not really a point in going to class. He does take attendance, but your grade won't really suffer much if you skip every now and then. But I dreaded listening to him lecture. He's a nice guy, but if you're looking for an engaging and exciting class, this is not for you.

knows a lot about the subject! very intelligent prof. exams are inconsistent, first was ridiculously easy, the next was ridiculously specific. follows the book to a T, so it is very beneficial to buy the book and read it before an exam. will answer any questions you have. is a little awkward at times, but its not that hard to deal with. gives a review sheet prior to every exam. we only had three exams and one paper in this class. however, the paper was rather in depth and i researched for a good sis or seven hours for it. overall, not a bad prof.

Very slow class. you really need to pay attention to the comments that he makes on top of the slides and take good notes since his random abstract comments tend to make it onto the exams. the paper that he requires needs to you to make use of the anthropological prospective to write a bout a current issue yet you don't really get a decent explanation of what the perspectives are and its not taught very well. he is a nice guy but hard professor and grader

Pros: He was a pretty nice guy. Gave extra credit on one of the midterms and finals. Fairly easy A.
Cons: Heavy studying and reading. Lectures are very dry. Keeps you pretty much till the end of class.
There are 2 midterms and a final, all 50 multiple choice. There is a lot of studying for them, but their fairly easy. Some of the multiple choice were absolutely ridiculous with some of the answers he provided, which makes it really easy to get them correct.

Really good professor. ANTH 210 was a very easy course - the grade was based on attendance, a midterm, a term paper and a final. The work was real easy and the readings were interesting. You have to be in class and pay attention to the lectures. He shows videos in class and pay attention to these too. The exam questions are based on the lecture, the videos watched in class and the readings - but they are easy if you pay attention.

1*
Cons: Boring...soo sooo boring.
The man talks so monotone is it impossible to pay attention. Class is pretty irrelevant and he teaches it like it is for a bunch of anthropology majors. Does not follow the book, he uses his own ideas as test questions. Attendance is required. Avoid if possible.

Cons: Textbook is SUPER dry and you read from it a lot.
Reminds me of a cross between Clint Eastwood and Santa Claus. Funny voice, but great prof.

His tests are complicated. They are multiple choice, but it is based on theories, not actual facts. Therefore you are not sure your answers are right. Class is pretty boring, bring you laptop or you will fall asleep. I had him in the afternoon too.
