Questions for Midterm 2 (remember I have no idea what will come up- these are just some questions based on lecture slides and the book. They are aimed to aid revision for the exam- we will discuss answers in section 2/21/07). Characterize population growth in the U.S. from 1790 to the Civil War. Why might fertility have been greater in rural areas compared to urban? Describe some of the push/pull factors influencing immigration- can you think of any examples from specific European countries? What are the advantages of such immigration? What goods could the South produce that weren’t farmed in the North? What did the North specialize in, as time went on? Why did they not produce the same goods? Why did indentured servitude die out while slavery flourished 1800-1860? You could also look at the first quiz question, discussed in section on 2/7/07- it covered most of the important content on the Revolutionary War.
