39 Part 3 Assignment Resources 40 A Guide for Reading Notes Making notes a) Preview the chapter before you read. b) As you read the assigned material, make notes on what you understand. If you have a study guide, use it to help you find what's important. c) Make notes using your own words (YOW). d) Make notes using an organization that works best for you (outline, bullets, topical headings). e) Use the organization of the text to guide your organization. f) Or: Re-organize the material using your own or an alternate organization. For example: If the text is chronological, create a topical organization (or vice versa). Critical Commentary As you read, formulate and record several critical comments (at least five [5] for a set of notes). If you are word-processing, SET YOUR COMMENTS IN ALL CAPS and intersperse them throughout your notes.
