2003 - 2004 DISCOVERY: READING A LIFE Overview In the New Century College (NCC) first-year program, you will take four interdisciplinary courses, each of which involves a different set of perspectives and themes. In keeping with NCC’s emphasis on active learning, you will be making connections between and among courses and integrating what you’ve been learning. One of the primary ways you’ll do so is through an individual yearlong research assignment called, “Discovery: Reading a Life.” In this project, you will be learning about an individual from a previous generation. Because this is a year of transition in your own life, we hope you will find it interesting to consider how someone of a previous generation has responded to and coped with change. In addition, we hope your examination of these issues will help you learn more about the events and social and cultural fabric of past decades.
