Management Theory Exam 1 Management and Managers (pages 2-19) Organization: systematic arrangement of people brought together to accomplish some specific purpose. Three common characteristics all organizations share: – – – Every organization has a purpose and is made up of people who are grouped in some kind of fashion. No purpose or goal can be achieved without people making decisions to establish the purpose and performing a variety of activities to make the goal a reality. All organizations develop a systematic structure that defines and limits the behavior of its members.
Operatives: people who work directly on a job or task and have no responsibility for overseeing the work of others. Managers: direct the activities of other people in the organization. First-line managers: usually called supervisors, team leaders, coaches. They are responsible for directing the day to day activities of operative employees.
