Chapter 8, "Domestic Terrorism" • • What percent of terrorist acts in the U.S. are committed by domestic (U.S.) terrorists? o Between 198 and 1920 there were 335 incidents of terrorism in the US, and 247 (74%) of these were believed to have been committed by domestic terrorists, no foreigners. At what point in U.S. history has anti-government violence been a problem? o Before 1760, before the revolutionary war, there were between 75 and 100 riots in America, with as many as 40 of them being efforts to overthrow regional governments. The revolutionary war itself was a fight against a strong centralized British government. Between 1750 and 1850, there were at least 20 uprisings by colonists who emptied jails, burned public buildings, closed court systems, and organized their own government institutions. In 1786, almost 9000 took part in an uprising, Shay’s rebellion, against government-approved lending practices.
