ENC 1102/Literary Terms to Know Point of view- “the angle or perspective from which a story is reported and interpreted”. McMahan, Day, and Funk 1134) Narrator- person or character telling the story First person narrator – main character telling the story as he/she experienced it (the pronoun “I” is used) (McMahan, Day, and Funk 1135) First-person narrators (like Sammy in A&P) can tell us about themselves and their backgrounds, experiences, feelings etc. and comment on the other characters as well. Third person narrator- gives the reader information about what the characters is/are doing (action) and thinking, what they look like, are dressed like, what their background is, etc.) They may even offer their own opinions or make judgments about a character.
