ISE 3414 - POR, Section 1: Quiz 2 Dr. Bish, Fall 04 NAME: STUDENT NUMBER: This examination is open books and open notes. Please show all your work. To obtain any credit you must show how you obtained the answer even if you used a calculator to actually compute it. 1. (6 points) We want to determine, by a blood test, the number of people who have a certain disease in our POR class (which has 40 students). A positive blood test result means that the tested person has the disease, whereas a negative test result means the opposite. Rather than testing each individual separately, the blood samples of all students will be pooled and analyzed together. If the test result for the whole class is negative, then one test will suffice for the 40 people, whereas if the test result for the whole class is positive, then each of the 40 students will also be individually tested and, in all, 41 tests will be needed for this class.
