Ms. Kissinger makes giving speeches easy. If you have fear of public speaking I would strongly recommend her. She allows you to do your speeches on what ever, just as long as it fits in the time frame and the type of speech. She allowed the showing of video clips from "Natural Born Killers" so just about anything is possible. The first half of the semester is going of the structure and techniques of public speaking and the last half is giving your 4 speeches and doing a group project. Overall this class was easy and public speaking is made to be easy.

Exams: The only test in the class is a midterm which covers everything she goes over in the book, the week before the test, she tells you everything that you need to know for it so that you don't have to study the information that is not on the test.

Homework: All you have to do is prepare for you speeches, there are a few outside assignments, but they are really easy. You have a group project but if you pick the right one, it can be done in a couple of days. There is an outside speaker that we had to listen too, but you could choose who you listen to and just give a summary on that person's speaking skills

Textbook: The book was not really necessary, but if you want to clarify what was going on in class it is good, plus it can help with your speeches. An easy way to do this is to buy the book with a friend in the class and just pass it back and forth.

This is one of the best teachers I have had at MTSU. She is very understanding of each person and especially the nervousness people feel about public speaking. She treats everyone fairly. She lets you email assignments to her and her funa d n positive atitude and relaxed grading get you through the class with a great grade. If you just do what she says, you'll do extremely well. I didn't even have to give my last speech because I had done well on the others and would still receive an A. Since you have to take this class, take Mrs. Kissinger!

Exams: The tests and the speeches are graded fairly. She is a very understanding teacher and doesn't grade harshly. She understands for most people the class is a general requirement and so she treats it that way.

Homework: Preparation for speeches. You have two that require no sources and two that do. The speeches are scary if you don't like public speaking, but this teacher makes it as easy as it can be with a clear outline of what is expected and easy grading.

Textbook: The textbook is good for topics for the speeches and for the midterm, but after that, you can sell it back.

I highly reccomend Mrs. Kissinger, especially for anyone with a fear of public speaking (like myself). The first few class sessions are designed to bond you with your classmates. There are group activities and games and 'discussion circles'. All of this helps you to be more comfortable with the group and therefore more at ease with getting up in front of them. The speeches started out short (3 minutes) and got progressively longer with the last one being 9-11 minutes. I was so comfortable by the end that I had trouble keeping my speeches within the time frame. I am (or maybe I should say used to be) one of those people who fear public speaking more than death, but Mrs. Kissinger's class has made me more confidnet, more secure, and a better speaker.

Exams: Tests are easy. Mrs. Kissinger gives you the questions for the exams a few days ahead of time. Just look them up and make sure you bring the answers to class because you are allowed to use them during the exam!

Homework: None

Textbook: The textbook is really only useful for the exams. I would suggest splitting the cost of the book with one or two other people.

Mrs. Kissinger really was an awesome teacher!I was worried because Public Speaking isn't hard for me, but it's not my favorite subject either. She made this class very, very interesting and she went over everything so you knew exactly what she expected. She even gave you ideas for your speeches and she was very available. She's very willing to help at anytime if you need it. She's a wonderful teacher who truly cares about her students and their grades. She's pretty leniant on her grading because she used to be a shy person. I would DEFINETLY suggest taking her!

Exams: The one test was optional. She gave our class the option of taking this test or going to the Ryman for a concert(she provided free ticktes)one night. Almost everyone in our class went to the Ryman so I have no idea what was on the test. If you attended this concert you made a 100 for your test grade.

Homework: Just writing and memorizing your speeches. 4 speeches are required. One group project toward the end of the semester.

Textbook: The textbook was an online one that I bought and I never even used it! I wouldn't suggest buying it!

I love Mrs. Kissinger! She was amazing. I was so scared to take speech at first, but she made it ok! We did a ton of getting to know you things at first, and she forced us to work in different groups.. so by the time we gave our first speech we pretty much knew everyone in the class and it made it better. She used to be really shy and she hates public speaking so she is completely understanding. She's always smiling and happy too. It was a very comfortable atmosphere. I would definately reccomend taking her! Just make sure you stay within the time limit on your speeches!

Exams: There was only one test. It was a midterm given over the material that was presented the first few days of class. She basically told us question for question what would be on it though, so just study that!

Homework: none really, you just had to prepare for your speeches.

Textbook: She basically told us we really wouldn't need it. She recommended buying one and sharing, but me and my roommate never even bought it. You never need it.

Mrs. Kissinger is a wonderful person and teacher! She really listens to your concerns. She really loves to teach and it shows! She kept us all interested, and just wait until the last day of class. She gives a speech that is just phenomenal! I would recommend Mrs. Kissinger to anyone! I would love to have her again and again!

Exams: She only gave one test but she gave you everything that was going to be on the test a week before so you have plenty of time to study the material! If you studied the test was easy, I made a 96%!

Homework: It is a speech class so you do have to write about 5-6 speeches. She clearly explains how to write each speech, so they are easy! You also have a group presentation, I don't like group projects but this was fun and interesting, even when people in my group didn't do what they were supposed to!

Textbook: The only time I used the textbook was to study for the test. But you wouldn't really have to have it.

This was the instructors first hybrid course, so not everything went perfectly. Grading, communication, and patience were always in place. I thought since I like to talk a lot this class would be a breeze. But every time I got up to do a speech my knees would lock up and I felt like I was just babbling. By the time the course was done, I managed to do my last speech on finding my Father. This is a touchy subject for me. I decided to record myself giving the speech to see where I needed to improve. I was alot clearer, and I thought I sounded more confident and not nearly as much babbling. I managed to bring the "uh's" down to a few. I would have to say Ms. Kissinger did a fine job teaching me and helping me get over most of my fear of public speaking.

Exams: Watch the time on your speeches!

Homework: The course was a hybrid, so we had to post discussions every week.

Textbook: The textbook is a must!

mrs. kissinger was definitely the best teacher i have ever had. i was dreading taking a speech class, but mrs. kissinger was always incredibly nice, positive, helpful, and fun. she has you do all kinds of silly, fun group activities to lighten the mood of the classroom and help you to get to know your classmates so that you won't be as nervous when you go to give a speech. she is also very fair and i recommend her to everyone.

Exams: mrs. kissinger gives a mid-term and that is it because she doesn't really see the point in giving written test in a speech class. the test was hard but she gives you 5 minutes to cheat w/ your notes.

Homework: very easy assignments regarding what type of a speaker you are, whether or not you enjoy public speaking, etc...

Textbook: you need the textbook for the midterm, but that is about it. mrs, kissinger goes over anything else you might need to know.

Mrs. Kissinger is a wonderful teacher and everyone should take her. She is helpful and will do anything to she can to help a student pass. She offers extra credit once or twice, but as long as you studied for the one test and prepare for the speeches you will do fine. I would love to have her as a teacher again. If you can take her class.

Exams: Her test was over the textbook material and she gives you a couple of weeks to prepare and she goes over it in class also. It was easy as long as you paid attention in class and studied a little bit.

Homework: You have to prepare short speeches and she gives everyone an assigned day to go, and you choose your own topic.

Textbook: You only use the book for the test which is given mid semester and it does help with any questions you may have over the speeches you do.

I definitely got MORE than my money's worth out of this class. I went in dreading a speech class. I hated getting up and speaking in front of people. Now I look forward to it. I am going to miss this class actually. The speeches were typical of what is required in a speech class but the order in which you do them helps a lot. Mrs. Kissinger is awesome! She was always there for me with any questions I had and was easily accessible outside of class as well. The material was clear and the grading was more than fair. I especially enjoyed this class because it has brought me to a new understanding of some things about life.

Exams: The material was given to you beforehand. She said...know this and listed what you needed to know.

Homework: Research for speeches, making visual aids, studying for tests.

Prof. Kissinger is wonderful. She is very sensitive to the thoughts and feelings of college-age students, and treats you as an equal. I absolutely hate giving speeches, but she made it very easy and very comfortable. She grades very fairly and is extremely encouraging. I really loved when she would share personal experiences to make us more comfortable. Sometimes they were funny, and sometimes they were serious, but they were always great! If you are scared of speech class, she is the one to take. I wish she was teaching other classes I need!

Exams: There was one test, and she tells you the questions you will be asked. There were 5 speeches and a group project.

Textbook: I only used it for the test, but it's helpful for tips on giving speeches and topics if your stuck.

TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. She is awesome. She was a little harsh on the speeches but offers extra credit and some easy "A" assignments. It's not hard to make an "A" in the class but you might freak out at first with the nit-picking on the speeches. It will help you though. You'll find yourself to be a better speaker even if you're already good at public speaking.

Exams: There was one mid term. STUDY FOR IT OR YOU WILL NOT GET A GOOD GRADE. The material is really easy so just take an hour the night before and study it. You have to know the answers, as it is short answer.

Homework: There were five speeches, one of which was a manuscript that was already written that you basically just had to read with some conviction and you would get an A.

With no exaggeration, she is truly one of the nicest, if not the nicest, professors Ive ever had. Very sweet personality. She also has no textbook and there is hardly any homework. For this class, it all boils down to 4 things

1) An outside of class volunteer event

2) Another outside of class event

3) A semester long group project that is 75 percent done in class. Between group members, there may be a couple things you may need to do.

4) Two emams. However, if you attend extra events (very easy things) you can opt out of the exams.

This class is very easy honestly.

Pros: Mrs. Kissinger is so sweet! She makes an effort to make speech enjoyable! You will have a blast doing the improvs she provides. I honestly was indifferent about public speaking but if you do have an issue, and its serious talk to her about it.
Don't BS the outline, she grades hard on that. Her speech at the end of the semester is one to remember. You will learn a lot about yourself and will build so much confidence.

Pros: She is awesome, before taking her I read the reviews in here and everyone talked very good about her, but I didn't really believe it, but BELIEVE it because she is just plain awesome!! She makes you feel comfortable, and giving your speeches doesn't feel very bad.
Cons: NOTHING!
Mrs. Kissinger, is one of the best professors I have taken in my college years (I am a senior so I have had a lot of professors). She really cares about her students and you can notice it because she makes you feel comfortable. She is very into making us interact with our classmates, which I must admit was a drag in the beginning, but as the semester progresses you come to realize that it was a good thing because you don't feel that nerve racking about giving your speeches. I will admit I was very nervous about my first speech but after the first speech, the other speeches didn't feel that bad! At the end of the semester she gives a speech and her speech is very good. Overall, I would advice everyone to take her because she is the best speech professor you will ever find!

P.S remember to do your outlines for your speeches!

This is hands down the BEST professor I have had my entire college career (5 years)!!! You will see from the start that she is one of the most kind hearted caring people around. She really enjoys her job and it shows. She also genuinly likes every single student in her class and NEVER picked a favorite or gave anyone a hard time. She grades EXTREMELY fairly. She doesn't judge the topic of your speech or you as a person, just the quallity. Ms. Kissenger's class really meant a lot to me and she deffinetly made a difference in my life. She takes the fear out of public speaking. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!

Exams: She gives only one test and tells you every single thing that will be on it a few days before you have to take it. SO EASY!!

Homework: All you have to do is prepare an outline for each speech. There is also a group project and presentation which is very easy and actually sort of fun.

Textbook: The text book was nice to have as a refference but as long as you take notes in class, you don't really need it.

Mrs kissinger is great. she is very laid back and always does activities and interactive games with the class to help stress the importance of things. she never just lectured for 50 minutes. she is an awesome teacher and if you get nervous about public speaking i recomend her.

Exams: she always graded fairly and was lenient on stuff if it was late and you had an excuse. for your speeches she gives very clear guidelines and as long as you follow them you are set.

Homework: there were a few small things we had to do, but it was to make sure we were not confused on things for our speeches. if we really screwed up on the homework she knew we were confused and helped us out.

Textbook: only used the book 2 times so you can get away with borrowing one. we had to read one essay and do an outline for it( a homework assignment) and the answers to the review for the only test came straight from the book.

Mrs. Kissinger is amazing! She is so sweet and understanding. I'm really shy when it comes to public speaking so much so I shake like a leaf, but she makes it as easy on you as possible. By the end of the semester I felt way more comfortable with public speaking. It wasn't half as big a deal. She gives you different types of speeches you have to do but you get to pick the topic! You also don't have to do that stupid pro con argument type speeches like some other teachers make you do.

Exams: There was only one test and it was the mid-term. If you just spent an hour studying you were fine. That's about what I did and I aced it.

Homework: Writing the speeches.

Textbook: You only use it a few times unless you just want to use it more, but you need it for the mid-term.

Outlines are important on speeches. If you mess up the outline there goes half your grade. If you follow the model she'll give you, you'll be okay. Make eye contact and watch your time. I got points off all year for that. Otherwise it's an easy class. Towards the end of the semester you'll be burnt out on speeches, but you'll probably have an okay grade.

Exams: There was only one test, which was the midterm. She tells you exactly what's going to be on it so it's really up to you whether you do well on it or not.

Homework: Just speeches. Lots of them. And one group project. The project required outside work.

Textbook: You could use the textbook but it really wasn't needed. She tells you what you need to know so if you take notes you'll be fine.

Mrs. Kissinger is one of the BEST teachers i have ever had. I was not looking forward to taking a speech course but after the first class with her I knew she was very nice and understanding about being nervous in front of the class. She grades VERY fairly, and the class is extremely easy if you just show up and do your speeches.

Exams: The one test she gives is in the middle of the semester and she gives you a study guide before the test that gives you the EXACT questions so if you study them, you will get an A on the test!

Homework: Homework was not really homework..just preparing for the speeches you have to give, which is not hard at all.
