Don't make the mistake I did thinking that since I had the material before and it was pretty easy (basically a combination of Bio I and Chem I.. surprise) I didn't study as much as I should have. I definitely should have made a letter above what I did.

Also don't think that just because there's a clicker quiz one class then there probably won't be one next class. They are completely random and you will probably miss one that way.

It is impossible to pay attention in this class mostly because i can't really understand what this man is saying. His tests are straight off the notes (which have a lot of material), and there are old tests of his on Koofers. BUT do not solely study those because there are only a few questions off each one. most of his questions will be ones you haven't seen before. There are a handful of questions from old tests though so it helps some to at least know those. Study the powerpoints carefully starting a few days before the test and you should do fine.

TAKE THIS CLASS IT IS SOOOOOOOO EASY. I loved this man. He is extremely fair, his tests test on the IMPORTANT THINGS and not random stuff that no one expects you to know. This class is GREAT. A little boring, but the tests were fair and only on things that you would be expected to know in the real world. Also extremely approachable outside of class. TAKE IT

Pros: What you need to know is right there on the slides, no need to purchase the book for this class.

He tries to be funny and tells jokes every once in a while, which is very endearing.

He genuinely wants his students to excel and understand the basics of Biochemistry.

Some of his old tests are posted on Koofers if you look for them. The one for the last exam and the final are pretty dang close to the actual ones.

He gives 10 clicker quizzes for the entire semester. Honestly, once the quizzes have all been done, you could really not go to class if you didn't want to.
Cons: It's hard to understand him.

You need a clicker for this class.

Attendance is mandatory, though it does not affect your grade (go figure).

Hard to pay attention in class.
I never paid attention in this class. I would start studying for these exams the night before and I would study only the slides and a little bit of the old exams posted on Koofers for him. I ended up with a B in the class, but probably could have gotten an A if I had been able to devote more time to it. I took it while taking Donna Gordon's Cell Bio class, and her exams usually fell the day before or the day after our Biochem exams, so I devoted more time to preparing for those exams than for Biochem exams. The teacher is a sweet little Asian man that does his best to get the main points across and help his students understand the material. Would definitely recommend him!!

Pros: Exams come straight from the powerpoints

Cons: Random clicker quizzes

Takes attendance as a grade

Accent hard to understand
This class was fairly easy. The exams asks questions that come straight from the notes. His accent is hard to understand so be prepared to look over the notes outside of class and teach yourself. The clicker quizzes were easy. They could be at the beginning of class or at the end. They help your grade if you get them correct so try to be there for all 10 of them. He takes attendance as part of your grade which I hated. You get one point for checking in at the beginning and at the end of class. So if you are late or you have to leave early you only get half a point for that class period. I didn't study at all for the first test and made a 52. But after that I made 80s and above on the rest of the exams. As long as you look over the powerpoints, you will do fine on his tests. The final is somewhat comprehensive. It mostly covers the chapters that come after the last lecture test.(DNA and RNA)

Pros: Relatively easy material covered in the class.
Cons: Sooooo hard to pay attention.
This class was relatively easy for me but I took 8 hours of Biology, cell bio, Chem 1&2, and Organic chem 1 & 2 prior to this class. The material wasn't hard even if you haven't had a majority of science classes. Be careful though, don't underestimate this class. He's very quiet, hard to understand, and it is an 8:00 am which makes it very hard to focus. Attendance doesn't count towards the final grade but he does give RANDOM pop quizzes that will only hurt your grade if you aren't there. The tests come from his notes but study them carefully, he asks a lot of questions that you have to understand it to get it right. The final is mostly whatever you cover after the third test and 10 question from previous exams(They're mostly questions that pertain to what youre covering already). There are no drop grades, curves, or scales. What you have is what you get.

Pros: the slides are online so if you miss class its not a big deal but he does give clicker quizzes that are worth 10% of your grade so you need to go to class until the quizzes are over. hes also really nice. really easy honors project
Cons: the test questions can be kind of tricky and confusing and you really do have to study. and theres a TON of material to learn.

i wouldnt say this class was easy but if you study really hard you should get an a

Pros: He is very willing to meet with students outside of class to help them or answer any questions.

Material is easy as long as you study a resonable amount outside of class.
Cons: Extremely boring lectures.

Test #2 was the most difficult and had the most material.
I recommend Dr. Li to future students! It is very possible to get an A in this course. I messed up pretty badly on the second test so I made it out with a B but that's only because I took for granted studying outside of class. He takes attendance at the beginning and the end of each class, which does not count towards anything. However, some class times he will have a "pop quiz" at the end of the lecture over the material he just taught. Super easy as long as you pay attention or just quickly look back at his powerpoint. These quizzes do count towards your grade. There's no drop grade or "the final can replace your lowest" help. So what you get is what you get, don't screw up. It's very easy to not pay attention in class then not study until the day before the test. Just keep up and you will get an A.

Pros: His tests come straight from the notes and quite a few of the questions are on the old tests. His notes are really organized and highlight what is on the test.
Cons: A LOT of notes. Usually around slides per lecture are on the tests and the tests are usually something like 4-5 lectures. Class is pretty boring but you never know when you'll be quizzed.
It's also important to go to class because he pretty much tells you some of the things that are guaranteed to be on the test, which is helpful when you are trying to study all those notes. Best way to study is by reading over each lecture quite a few times because there is so much you need to remember. Most of the questions on the test are just memory, but some are pretty specific and a few can be tricky.

Pros: relatively easy tests
Cons: literally can't understand a word he's saying

final exam is really hard

uses clickers that constantly mess up
First, the lectures for this class are completely boring. Maybe they would be more interesting if we could actually understand what he's saying, but the world will never know. You have to come to pretty much every class and sit through the epitome of boredom because he gives random clicker quizzes. WATCH OUT. The 10% the quizzes count can mess up your grade.

All of the exams were fairly easy, but the final was ridiculous, and it counted more than any other test. The final brought my grade down a letter.

Overall, a fairly easy class, but definitely not ideal.

Pros: The homework isn't graded.

The tests are super easy (multiple choice).

Powerpoint online.
Cons: He takes attendance.

He gives pop quizzes as part of attendance.
He is an awful teacher. He mumbles, has an accent, and speaks away from his students, so no one can really understand him. Fortunately, he just reads exactly what's on the powerpoint slides, which he posts online. He gives 10 in-class one-question pop quizzes, but after those ten quizzes are taken, you pretty much don't have to go to class for the last month. I never used the book, and I never did the Sapling homework. I made an A in this course.

Pros: Mr. Li is a very sweet man that really has alot of talent. if you pay attention in his class he will make everything very easy to understand and has great ways of explaining things.
Cons: The class does not hold your attention and you really have to fight to pay attention.
Don't let you quiz grade slide because it pretty much ends up counting for a whole letter grade. Come to class prepared for quizzes and try to pay attention in class because he often talks about information that he puts in the quizzes right before he gives them.

Pros: This is a pretty easy course if you need a science credit. He is foreign so his accent can be difficult to understand, but he posts all the slides and reads straight from them in class. Tests are multiple choice but you still need to study. He does attendance with a clicker that is not mandatory, but he will do 10 clicker quizzes randomly throughout the semester and you don't want to miss those.
Cons: Hard to understand his accent at times. Also, it's usually at 8am so staying awake can be a struggle.

Cons: Pop Quizzes
Dr. Li's class is dreadfully boring. He just reads from the powerpoint slides the entire class. You have to go to class even though there isn't a real attendance policy because there are unannounced pop quizzes that will hurt your grade if you miss them. Dr. Li is a really sweet man, and if you have any questions he tries his best to explain the material to you. I just wish that his class wasn't so hard to sit through!

Pros: Fairly straightforward
Cons: Couldn't understand his accent most of the time

Tended to mumble and speak monotone

A good bit of information
I had this as an 8:00 a.m. class and it was a legitimate struggle to stay awake with his mumbling and monotone voice. It was also difficult to understand his accent. I basically had to teach myself the material, but it's not impossible. Just start studying well in advance and you will be fine.

As long as you study for the tests, you will do fine in the course. He is very organized and the review power point right before the test is very helpful. He assigns sapling learning homework, but it is not graded so I would not bother even buying the code. His tests come pretty much directly from his power point slides so the book is not necessary.

It is hard to understand his accent at first, but after a couple days of class you’ll get use to it. He posts all the slides online and that’s basically where the entire tests come from. The book is not needed at all. He does give 10 pop quizzes in class. Overall, this class is not bad at all for a science course.
