HIST 3980
POST-1920 U.S. HISTORY
5*****
Pros: The way he structures his class allows you to really think about the subject instead of worrying about memorizing dates and names. He is super friendly and his quirkiness only makes him more likeable. I would take him for every class if I could. You will learn a lot and be glad about it!
Cons: Too funny... :)
FYI: HIST 3980-920 is History of Korea & HIST 3980-921 is Pre-Modern Japan. Not the US history.

Oh great class learned a lot! Easy going. You can ask him anything. I also took him during winter intercession. Seriously he is a great professor I took HIST 3413 over intersession and I had fun. I was not into the material but he made it fun. He is relaxed, fair at grading and I honestly believe you have to try to fail. He cares about his students and wants them to make a good grade, he is helpful and understanding. Take him he's a blast.

Pros: Good guy, good class. The material is good, the reading is decent, and the lectures are good. He is passionate and therefore has good lectures. Always willing to help out, and the tests are fair.
Cons: In-class Presentations
I really enjoyed Dr. O's class. He is very energetic about the subject matter and makes it interesting. Tests are a lot of writing but if you go to class you will be fine. Discussion classes are mandatory but they weren't bad at all. This is also a very reading-intensive class so if you don't like to read a lot and write about it then don't take it.

Pros: Dr. O has a great ability to make history fun and engaging. Very smart professor, amazing control of lecture without notes
Cons: No
The best professor I have ever had in all subjects. Truly smart and very clear in class. Class is always fun, a class you dont want to miss, and they are rare! He will help those who help themselves. Warning: he is smarter than us and don't be "that guy" who tries to prove otherwise. If you do, you'll realize, probably not until the next day, which his response to your dumb questions was really a highly intelligent, funny, and careful way of making fun of you. It is a rather amazing talent he has.

Pros: Great professor! Really smart sense of humor, straightforward and wants students to do well.
Cons: No Comments
Pre-Modern Japan

Take him if you can! He is a really great teacher and appreciates students who actually comment and pay attention. He likes to tie historical themes to current events, which make great essay material. One of the greatest History professor ever had! Super fun to listen to during lectures. Very passionate and excited about the material. Always made it a joy to come to class. Wish I could have taken more of his classes.

EAST ASIA SINCE 1800

Pros: Dr. O is extremely helpful to his students, and shows his enthusiasm for the subject matter by engaging in classroom discussions. Be prepared to write efficiently, as he expects well-written history papers with sound arguments both for the midterm and final. Best class I have taken at OSU so far. Overall, if you stay diligent, you'll be fine
Cons: Too hard
Prof O is a righteous dude. 100-150 pages of reading a week and a 2 page reflection. Cares about the subject and anyone willing to make an effort. Fail this class by not going or not doing anything. Hard to fail. Nice guy, can be tough, but not a jerk at all. Reading and writing. Be on time.

Pros: Very good professor. We had a small class, and he was always willing to work with us. He wanted to teach us and obvious he loves teaching. Always had a smile on his face, and wanted to help the students as best as he could.
Cons: None
Pre-Modern Japan was a very fun class. We watched various films and had interesting conversations. Only had a couple assignments. film report and book report. If you miss more than 3 days, you will not pass the class. He keeps track every day. I recommend it! He is not ****-- In fact, he is one of the most non biased person I know.

Pros: Hands down one of the most down to earth professors at OSU. He cares about his students, he stays after class and responds to emails sent to him very quickly. I had to take this class to knock off a cultural diversity and i never thought i would become so engaged in the class. Great Professor!
Cons: None
Best teacher ever! Very narrative and interesting person. His lectures are not boring if happen to be interested in the topic. Very educated and helpful professor. Would recommend his class. Lots of reading, but how are you supposed to learn if you don't.

Pros: One of my favorite class. Wish all my professors are like him. He make the subject very interesting, and get thing done on time. Everybody in my class pass it. The test are hard but very fair, if you study and pay attention in class then you have no problem.
Cons: Research Paper (Font size 10, 7~12 pages)
This professor in particular is one of a kind. Asian History itself is an interesting diverse subject, but with the helpfulness and actual life examples the professor offers it will not be a problem. I give him 2 Thumbs Up!

Pros: Dr. O's name should be in the dictionary next to teacher/professor/mentor/. OSU is lucky to have him as faculty just as every student who ever takes his class is. It was an honor and a pleasure to be taught by such a truly wise, interesting and understanding person!
Cons: I always tried to get into his class but they were always full by the time my registration date came around. If you can get in, DO IT! You will: learn, want to come to class, laugh, and enjoy his teaching. Don't get offended, you have to have an open mind for his classes. LOVEED him. Only professor that actually makes me want to go back to OSU.
Dr. O changed my life. He will open your eyes to the possibilities of your future. He is hilarious!! outstanding professor. He gave me a whole new outlook on life. He is very funny, Smart, and laid back. I sure am going to miss him since I hear hes leaving. His classs was always fun to go to and he picked on alot of people. I am sad to see such a great professor go like him. :( but what can you do!!!! Im sorry for those who never had him... You sure missed out on a good professor!!
