HIST 1310
HIST US TO 1877
5*****
Pros: So funny.
Cons: Pretty difficult.
I loved this class. It was at 8am but I WANTED to get up for it. Don't buy the book. Just go to lecture and take notes. His exam is an essay. He gives you the prompt a week in advance. Outline what you want to write and show it to your TA. THey will help you SO MUCH if you go to them. They will tell you what they want and don't want and what they are looking for. Then, practice writing the essay as if you were taking the test. Be sure you can do it in about 60 minutes. It will need to be about 4 pages long or else they will feel like you didn't write enough. You cannot take your outline into the class with you for the test. Gotta remember it. His pop quizes (if he remembers) are extra credit.

Pros: He makes history interesting. Instead of teaching it in lecture form he tells it as a story which makes it really easy to comprehend and understand what is going on. Also with all the extra SI sessions one can get help anytime on needs it.
This class is great! I have never been interested in history, in fact it has always seem extremely boring and just another class to take. But now I am truly enjoying the class and I am actually excited to go to my history class.

Pros: great professor, knows his stuff and keeps class interesting. Don't buy the book unless you want to get minimal extra credit, because this class never uses the book.
Cons: I wouldn't count this personally as a con, but some may... He does not use powerpoints. Everything for this class is attendance based, and therefore in order to get notes or know what's going on you must attend literally every class. You can never miss.

Pros: Super exciting class. I truly enjoy his lectures. Best history prof. in my opinion. Always had problems with History but actually enjoy learning in McWilliams class.
Cons: McWilliams does not grade exams. TA's grade and its truly luck of the draw on how your TA will grade. Got a pretty tough TA this semester.

3***
Pros: Easy to listen to and pay attention to. Adds humor to lectures.
Cons: He doesn't grade the essays so it really matters what the TA's think.
Definitely go to the review sessions for the exam. If you can, go up to the TA grading your paper and see if they're willing to tell you what they are looking for.

Very good teacher! Exciting and funny, really knows what he is talking about. The tests are somewhat hard. You must be in class everyday to get everything you will need to write on your exam essay. The pop quizzes are told to you prior to being given, so not really pop quizzes.
