Pros: Bakker keeps class entertaining with relevant SNL and Conan videos. His test are straightforward and he puts the notes online. If you attend class he tells you test questions and answers.Even if you are not interested in the subject, the class is very manageable.
Cons: There are usually one or two questions on every test that have debatable answers, but 2 questions out of 55 isn't a big problem.
Bakker is an enjoyable and friendly professor. I recommend taking his class.

Pros: This is one of the best classes I have ever taken. He explains the material in such a simple way that it is so easy to understand. If you go to class and pay attention, you barely need to study for the exams. All exams are multiple choice and usually 50 questions.
Cons: The "breakout" session is once a week and frustrating because they can give pop-quizzes so you have to keep up with the readings every week (but they aren't too bad). If you read the textbook chapter(s) you will get a good grade on the quizzes, otherwise you will probably do poorly. The quiz questions, at times, I thought were harder than the test questions.
I enjoyed going to his class and I would take it again in a heartbeat. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had because he gets that we are in college and makes the work-load so easy and manageable. TAKE THIS CLASS!! It is the best/easiest pols1101 class at UGA by far.

Pros: Awesome guy. He made the lectures really funny, even though they weren't required in any way to go to. The breakout was super easy, you just discussed what you learned in lecture that week. The "pop quizzes" were announced, and he would usually hint at certain answers if you attend the lectures the week of. His tests are straight from the online quizzes that go with the textbook. I DEFINITELY recommend Bakker for Polysci 1101.
Cons: He attempts to make the lecture as interesting as possible with funny videos and his sarcastic commentary, but they are sometimes boring like most lectures.

Pros: Lecture powerpoints are posted online
Cons: Large lecture hall class
The class is relatively easy. Bakker is a funny guy and makes the class interesting. He often includes clips of Steven Colbert and John Stewart in his lectures. There are three exams and a final. Bakker ended up curving the tests so that your highest grade was more heavily weighted. You don't have to go to the lectures but the breakout sessions do take attendance. There were 6 pop quizzes throughout the semester but if you go to the lecture Bakker usually gives a heads up the week of a quiz.

Pros: Dr. Bakker is a great lecturer, and always makes his lectures entertaining, incorporating both recent and historical comical events in politics and clips from The Daily Show and the Colbert Report. Great lectures, and most of the tests are taken directly from the StudySpace website thing quizzes. All powerpoints are posted online. Very easy.
Cons: So easy that sometimes I'm lulled into thinking I don't have to go to class...but some questions are only answered in lecture, and attendance is taken in the breakout sessions, when there are "pop quizzes"--he usually tells the class in lecture when there's going to be a quiz--but if you don't go to lecture then you don't hear this...etc.
Go to discussion section. And lecture, it's generally both enjoyable and informative.

Pros: Only tests on book and lectures

No outside work

Tests are easy

Lectures not very important
Cons: Mandatory breakout sessions

Quizzes given in breakout sessions
His POLS 1101 class was beyond easy. He has four tests (3 regular tests, 1 Final exam) and they are really easy. All you have to do study for them is use the textbook's online srudy guide and quizzes. I quit going to his lectures after the first test because i realized they werent necessary at all, just read the ook and look at the powerpoints.

Pros: all multiple choice tests, no essays ever. easiest class I've ever had.. including highschool. If you go to class he gives away test answers, but honestly its not even worth going to class the tests are so easy. We watch colbert report in class all the time too which is legit. All he does is go over powerpoints which he posts online.
Cons: He's a democrat
use the online resources, look at power point, skim the chapters if you wanna be really safe, but its pretty much a guarenteed A

Pros: Bakker is an awesome teacher and keeps the class interesting!
Cons: Lectures can get a bit boring at times.
This class was really great and informative. Dr.Bakker was funny and often showed videos in lecture to keep it interesting. Williamson was my Teaching Assistant. He was great too, but I think mostly al of them were willing to work with their students and help them to make a good grade in the class. The four tests were easy if you utilized the StudySpace website online.

Pros: Hands down the best teacher I've had at UGA. Really cared about the material and the current 2012 election. We watched SNL and Conan videos a lot and always made everyone laugh and applaud. I hate social studies classes but his was my favorite ever.
Cons: First couple of tests were a little difficult to study for. Breakout sessions are directed by TAs that can sometimes have monotonous voices in the morning.

Pros: Attendance not required

Class is enjoyable

Bakker is hilarious
Super easy class. Attendance isn't required (except in the weekly breakout session). Tests are easy and have a lot of questions from the old tests. Quizzes are given in the breakout sessions, but they're so easy they're not even worth studying for. Definitely take Bakker, he's a funny guy and if you actually go to class he makes it worth your while.

Pros: GREAT PROFESSOR!!!

Tests are pretty easy and fair as long as you pay attention in class and look over the powerpoints.

Cons: none. take him. he's awesome.
Bakker has the ability to really make the material interesting and relatable to the class.

Gives four tests throughout the semester and five "pop" quizzes. If you go to class he will almost always tell you when you're going to have a quiz though.

Pros: Great teacher, funny guy. Tests are not hard if you study them. Uses current events to talk about the subject and loves using Daily Show and Colbert clips in his lectures.
Cons: None
If you have to take this class, this is the best teacher to have for it. Not that hard to get an A in the class if you study, and his lectures are very interesting.

Cons: Pop quizzes given in breakout sessions

Pros: Bakker is a really good teacher. The class is honestly not that hard if you pay attention and study. The book is a good source but the chapters are sooo long so i didn't ready them after the 1st test. Make sure you use the study website that he talks about, know and understand the key terms of each chapter, and pay attention in class and you should be good!

All test are multiple choice about 70 something questions.

Final was reallly easy because it was a combination of all 3 of the exams with a few new questions, so as long as you study the exams and use the final exam review material provided by him and your TA, it's not bad at all.
Cons: None really. The class isn't an easy A if you don't study or pay attention.

Pros: -tells you when "pop" quizzes are

-funny

-occassionally curves tests

-takes test material from the website

-notes are all online
Cons: sometimes will make questions a little trickier than they need to be on the tests

first test is worth 15% when the other two are worth 20%

final is cumulative

doesn't use elc, so you need to keep track of your own grades

no essays/projects
Read the book, study the online quizzes and past tests if you have them, go to breakouts so you can take the quizzes, study the flashcards on the online test, and it is definitely possible to get an A in this class. He's funny and shows video clips pretty often. Highly recommended.

Dr. Bakker is a really funny and interesting guy. His lectures are more interesting and he does try and keep things fun. His tests are okay. It's highly recommended that you read the book and practice with online quizzes. Dr. Bakker didn't have essay questions on his tests, but there were a lot of multiple choice questions; some of which were confusing and came out of no where. He will add questions from lecture, so it's recommended that you go to lecture. Over all, it was a good Poli Sci class, and Dr. Bakker is a fun guy.

Pros: He makes political science as interesting as he can. He shows videos, and has a good sense of humor.
Cons: There are usually quizzes in the break out sections, so you have to attend those.
The tests are easy if you read the book and study his power points. If you go to class, he'll tell you when quizzes are. Buying the book is pretty essential, but I wouldn't waste my money on the GA politics book. We never used it. The final exam is also just old test questions. Overall, he's awesome. Take him.

Pros: Doesn't take attendance

Tests are fairly easy

Bakker is a really chill guy. He lectures for the entire class period but it's not too boring. You're supposed to take notes and read the book but I pretty much just looked at the Red Notes and did fairly well on my tests. The final is cumulative but it consists mostly of questions (multiple choice, no essays) asked on previous exams. Going to class is completely optional but he does give hints to test questions during class.

Pros: Strictly multiple choice tests

No papers

Very simple and straightforward quizzes
Cons: None
Everything I've heard about Bakker being the best for this class was true.

He removes unfair exam questions.

If you attend his lectures, he'll warn you when a quiz is going to happen in the breakout session.

The final consisted of questions mostly from old exams.

The textbook isn't really required, but it will definitely help you secure the A if you need it.
