Pros: Dr. Bullock is the best, hands down. Go to class and answer questions, and you will most likely get a good grade. He hates B.S. answers so if he calls on you, admit you don't know otherwise he will make you look stupid. Trust me, I took two classes with him and he supervised my internship, so I know him pretty well, and I've seen him do this to students who think they know "everything". Unlike those know it all students, Dr. Bullock really does know everything. But seriously, volunteer answers when you know them, and contribute to the class and you'll most likely get a good grade. Follow his directions for the paper (which he outlines for you). If you don't, he'll give you a less than stellar grade. As long as you go to class, pay attention, do the reading, and participate, you should get an A. I got them in both classes I took with Bullock and got an A on my internship paper. He is very cool and loves talking to students during his office hours. If you want to do good, take advantage of his office hours, it shows you care in his opinion.
Cons: Lot's of reading, tests can be slightly difficult.

Pros: Best teacher in SPIA period, truly cares about his students and grades very fair. Often tests are worth over 100 points allowing one some cushion to their grade.
Cons: Lots of reading that you have to do to both pass the class and the pop reading quizzes. Attendance and participation are closely monitored and graded. test require lots of detail and he hates BS answers.
took his Southern Poly, took his comparative legislative process, and he has given me grades for 11 hours of my college career. If you want to leave a POLS or INTL major a better student take this class. If your looking for easy grades or don't do your reading when assigned, avoid this class like the plague.

Pros: Very passionate, helpful, good resource to have
Cons: Have to sit in front so you can hear well, b/c he tends to mumble sometimes
I had Dr. Bullock for Intro American Gov't for Freshman College. Not an easy class to take in a month, but so glad I took it from Dr. Bullock. The TA was very helpful and had regular study sessions for tests, and usually responded to questions through e-mail. He had different students come in and talk about internships and study abroad programs. Read the chapters in the books and pay attention to stories he tells (these can seem like side notes, but they will show up on the tests)You have to study a lot!! I did and came out with an A, but it was a lot of work

Pros: Great professor. One of the most entertaining instructors at the University. Great person to know if you're interested in state politics or campaigns- this man above all others will get you an internship/job when you graduate. Knows everything there is to know about politics in the south, lectures are dynamic and insightful, people actually come and sit in during his Talmadge lecture.
Cons: People tend to complain that he requires too much reading. Actually, reading is very manageable - and I found the Hood book totally unnecessary to purchase. No other cons.
If you're going to graduate with any SPIA degree at Georgia, you have to take Bullock. Meet with him during his office hours- it will help you with outside opportunities and your final grade. Tests are rote memorization and regurgitation. Work with him during office hours on your paper, and incorporate his ideas- 1-way ticket to an A on the paper.

Pros: Funny

Insanely smart about political science

Takes time to get to know his students

Challenges the way you think about politics, especially if you have little experience in the matter

Cons: Difficult class at times

Lots of reading

Tough tests
I had Dr. Bullock for the non-Honors section of this class- POLS 1101- during Freshman College. The number of tests, etc, may vary in a non-summer class, considering how much we had to pack into 19 class days; it was a challenging class. However, he remembered me the next semester and always seemed to truly care about the class and the kids in it. I would recommend him, especially if you want a riveting lecture-based class.

Pros: Great teacher and is very funny and likable.
Cons: TA grades the test fairly hard
I actually had this class for Poli Sci 1101 for freshman college not honors but it wouldn't let me choose that option. It's a great class and you will learn a lot If you do the assigned reading and take good notes, then you should do fairly well but not many students get A's. Overall a tough class that you need to work hard in to get a good grade

Pros: He tells you when you have a quiz. Do the readings for Christ's sake. Write down everything he says but in your own words; don't lose the forest for the trees. He is the best professor I have ever had and I consider him a great mentor. I am currently in my third class with him and i wish I could take more and learn more from him. You didn't get a political science degree unless you took Bullock.
Cons: Absolutely none.

Extremely knowledgeable.

And the class is actually fun!
Cons: A lot of reading, and you have to do it to do well,

A really long paper based on original research, but he will help you out if you talk to him about it

Pros: - One of the smartest guys on campus

- Funny, cool guy

- Willing to help if you need it
Cons: - Tends to ramble a bit in his lectures

- Lectures can be a bit hard to follow at times

- SO MUCH READING
Dr. Bullock is one of the most respected political scientists in the country, so it's safe to say that he knows his stuff. I will say that I didn't enjoy this class as much as other people did, but that's because my interests lie more in the legal sphere. If you want to pursue a career in politics, TAKE THIS CLASS. You will learn so much about the political process and Dr. Bullock is a great resource for obtaining internships and networking with people who work in politics (he's very well respected by many people in politics, so a recommendation from him goes a very long way). As far as the actual class goes, it's not easy. There are several classes I have taken at UGA that I didn't need to do the reading to do well. This is not one of them. You absolutely have to do the reading to do well in this class and there is a LOT of reading that needs to be done. Probably about 100+ pages on average per reading assignment. Quizzes are based on the reading and can be difficult, but he drops your two lowest quiz grades. The tests aren't too bad if you study and prepare well for them, but you will absolutely bomb each one if you don't put effort into studying for them. You have to write an essay as well about something having to do with the legislative process. Just follow his guidelines for the essay and you should do okay on it. Overall, this class is pretty work intensive, but not impossible as long as you keep up with the work. If you're serious about pursuing a political career, you need to take this class.

Pros: Awesome Professor who knows everything about the subject! Has students come and talk about study abroad/internships. Tries to get to know each student individually and wants you to succeed. Very approachable person who enjoys Political Science and hopes that you learn something from him!
Cons: TESTS ARE HARD.Essay portion of tests are impossible to get a perfect score on. Competition is a big factor in test grading. With studying and reading, the tests are still manageable.
-Review for Freshman College

-Sit towards the front and near the aisles-->he tends to mumble

-Good to know what is happening in the news when class starts

-If you want an easy FreshCo experience and an easy A, don't take this class. However, if you want to learn something new and have a professor who cares about you and your learning then definitely take him. I'm SO glad I did.

Pros: Best Political Science Professor at UGA, very knowledgeable and sincerely interested in helping students
Cons: The tests are long and can be painful if you do not plan to study
You must take a class with Bullock in order to say you have graduated with a Political Science degree from UGA. I took his Legislative Process last semester and he is a really great guy whom I would highly recommend.

I did not take POLS 1105H. This review is for POLS 1101 during freshco. For this class, read the book, get a study group as fast as possible, and review the notes (they make up about 80% of the test).

I learnt so much in this class, and not just about southern politics. He has three tests which are 20% of your grade, a term paper (which is 12-20 something pages) and pop quizzes.
