Pros: The man is knowledgeable and he gives pop quizzes that are strictly extra credit. You do not need to go to class unless you want the extra credit.
Cons: The tests are impossible. You need old tests to even get a B in this class, and even then, you will not have all the test questions. The questions he asks are ridiculously hard and are stuff you do not even cover in class.

Pros: He gives pop quizzes periodically throughout the semester, but they are only for extra credit. The test are all multiple choice and are straightforward. You can exempt the final if you get a certain number of pop quiz points and an A average on the tests. He has experience from private practice, so he tells interesting stories sometimes. The subject matter is very interesting if you like psych.
Cons: The test questions are given on a powerpoint and you have 30 seconds to bubble an answer. Some people didn't like that format, but it isn't bad at all if you are prepared.

Pros: Interesting material

Can exempt final if have an A
Cons: Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you want to exempt the final, you need to go to class to take the pop quizzes.

There's a test every 1 and a half to 2 weeks.
At the beginning, this course was really hard because I did not know to study the old tests. Definitely get the old tests--you can find them on koofers or on studyblue--if you want an A.

Pros: He gives pop quizzes but they are extra credit! Any points you get on them he adds a fraction of them to your test scores (it really helps), he drops your lowest two test scores and he gives you 8 tests so you have a lot of room to improve
Cons: the tests are timed meaning he has a timer going for each question he puts the question up on the screen reads the question then the answer choices and then starts a timer for 30 seconds, there is a lot of material you need to study
Go to class every day! He gives pop quizzes randomly and you can't predict them and he sometimes gives you bonus points if you show up when not many students are in class that day. Look at the old tests and review his pop quizzes when studying for his tests, lots of questions are repeated, read the book, but focus more on his lecture notes

This is the worst teacher I have EVER had. He does not care about his students at all, in fact at the beginning of the semester he tells you if you ever have any issues to go to the TAs and not him because he is basically retired and doesn't want to deal with it. His tests are 40 questions each all multiple choice but are done completely on powerpoint and you are given 30 seconds to answer them, he does not go back and you have no opportunity to ask questions or even really think the answers out. The information could have been interesting if not for his monotoned voice and obvious disinterest in what was going on. This is the worst class I have ever been a part of and I would strongly recommend taking ANYONE but him.

Pros: Old tests make this class a breeze and there is no attendance. I never went to class and took the final and still got an A.
Cons: He is the worst teacher I have ever had. Not to be confused with a bad course. The Course was easy but like I said he is the worst teacher. He doesn't care at all. He's tenured and you can tell.

Pros: Attendance is not required.
Cons: Even though I went to every class, read every chapter and studied the notes, it did not help come exam time.
I didn't start doing good until I got a hold of old exams...if you have the exams then you need not do anything else.

Pros: attendance optional (slightly..) & pop quizzes are bonus points that count .325 added onto test for every question answered right on the quiz. can drop 2 lowest test scores. final optional. a lot of test questions found online.
Cons: 12 pop quizzes & 8 tests & a final!! holy hell i was studying NONSTOP for this class. attendance is optional but when you have a pop quiz every other day randomly you kinda HAVE to go! we even had quizzes the day after a test it is nonstop. if you're not taking a quiz you're taking a test. tedious, time consuming, 30 seconds to answer a question on an overhead screen while TA's read aloud (half the time can't even read the question correctly). just a distrataction & you can't go back to change an answer even if you wanted to. you could probably pull an A if you constantly study & literally go to class every day. I pulled a B, but would not recomend.

Pros: Easy if you get the old tests

Can drop 2 of the 8 tests

Possible to exempt final
Cons: 8 Tests (8!!!!)

If you don't have the old tests and try to learn, it is impossible

Awful class

Calhoun even tells you the first day of class to find his old tests, you absolutely need them. If you have them, the tests are easy, but it's just annoying.

Pop quizzes that are bonus points.

You need an A average on the Tests and the pop quizzes to exempt the final.

Boring as anything.

Pros: very informative course, all the material you need for the exams is provided, fast paced
Cons: reading intensive course, fast paced, no absentee make-ups for any quz or exam.
This is a very cut and dry course--you study all the material and you either understand it or you don't. There is no room for non-traditional students (if you are sick or have family matters to attend etc...)--if you don't show up for a quiz or an exam you dont get credit for them, and there are absolutely no make-ups for anything.

Pros: seems to have been teaching at UGA for a long time so his class hasn't changed much in years. don't have to read textbook if you have lots and lotssssss of old questions. MEMORIZE THEM. don't only rely on koofers.
Cons: test questions aren't 100% straightforward. don't simply count on only koofers tests-- find old test banks floating around. also uses random new questions that are ambiguous and tricky. not too hard to pull out an A but definitely not an easy a with no workload.

Pros: Extra credit quizzes, and lots of them. I got a C on the final and still came out with an A because of those quizzes.

Drops the lowest two tests out of eight.

Reuses old questions, and Koofers has a great test bank

Cool old guy, works in the field, has lots of examples
Cons: Tests can be tough; be sure to read the book. Don't rely on Koofer's testbank for the whole test.

8 tests. You'll basically have one every other week. These only have 40 questions each, though.

Pros: the pop quizzes he gives in class are extra credit.

dr. calhoun is really nice and has a lot of experience in psychology.

you have the opportunity to exempt the final!
Cons: you only get 30 seconds to answer each question on the test... that's kind of intense.
easy and interesting class! if you go to class regularly and take the quizzes you get a lot of extra credit. if you study old tests and skim the chapters you will do well in this class.

Pros: Attendance not technically necessary

Uses old exams which are all over Koofers

Approachable
Cons: TAs can be harder to deal with

You'll need to buy the textbook

Big lecture class can get dull
You can just memorize answers to old tests and probably get a good grade, but you can still actually learn a good deal if you pay attention and actually read the textbook. Go to class to get points from the pop quizzes, and you can exempt the final.

Pros: 8 tests, drops 2. all the old tests are easily found online. you can tell he does really love what he's talking about and he is so knowledgeable. as long as you have old tests, you will do fine. but you need to have more than 1 copy of each old test
Cons: don't really know where you stand because the break down of % is weird. he would rather you go to a TA because he is basically retired.

Pros: Great professor/lecturer

Post slides on ELC

Pop quizzes for extra credit

Two lowest tests dropped

Final is exemptible
Cons: A lot of material, quizzes, and tests

Test/quiz questions can be misleading/confusing
Overall Calhoun is the best Abnormal Psych professor UGA has to offer. He is fair, and easy to follow during lecture. Again, if you need to take this class, Calhoun is a MUST!

Pros: Material is really interesting and it's obvious Dr. Calhoun is interested in the materal he teaches.
Cons: A lot of reading. You need to read the textbook if you want to do well in the class.
Attend class. The pop quizzes help your grade dramatically in the end. I didn't have to take the final and got an automatic A because of the pop quiz points.
