POUL 2020
Introductory Poultry Science
4****
Pros: Compton is a very good teacher who knows the material. He uses chalkboard notes, which some don't like but I do because it forces you to pay attention and take notes.
Cons: Pretty friggin hard tests for an intro-level course. Someone with a background in the field should find it simple but newcomers will have it pretty tough.
Doesn't take attendance but it would be to your advantage to make some friends in class who will give you notes if you miss because it's easy to miss one really important day. You do have to go to labs (about 3 hrs a week).

Pros: great teacher

eccentric and hyper in class, will keep you entertained
Cons: none

95=A

<95=A-
great class, felt bad for folks who werent accustomed to the poultry field. class will feel like an intense major class to those who arent familiar with the industry.

put in the hard work, visualize and understand what dr. compton is saying or drawing on the board, understand the mechanisms and terminology and how it all relates into one broad area and an A or B should be no problem.

POUL 3000
AVIAN BIOMED TECH
5*****
Pros: If you're pre-med or pre-vet, this is one of the best courses you can take as an undergrad. It is really interesting and you perform surgery every week (I mean in how many undergraduate classes do you get to do something as cool as this?)
Cons: You definitely have to study. His exams are pretty tough. Also, you have to kill the chickens a week after the surgery to see how well they healed.
Compton is a little eccentric, but knows his stuff and is a great professor.

POUL 4200
Avian Anatomy and Physiology
4****
Pros: Very willing to help you, very energetic and knowledgable. Will work with you if you are struggling as long as you go to him and show that you care.
Cons: All notes are given very fast and tests are very in depth. Must take very precise notes and know every little detail to do well on the exams.
Overall, Compton is an excellent teacher. I've had him for two classes with him. His classes aren't easy As by any means. You must really work hard in his classes.

Pros: Had Compton for 2020 and 4200. Easily one of the best professors I've had in college. He's really enthusiastic and you will learn material that is very detailed and very interesting. Also just a fun guy to be around.
Cons: Tests and quizzes are hard. You have to make this class a top priority to get an A.
Great class, fun labs, and you will learn a ton. Also you get to go hiking/kayaking for extra credit.

Pros: Lots of extra credit opportunities that are FUN!!
Dr. Compton is a great professor, best one I have had so far at UGA. His teaching style worked very well for me. Instead of reading slides, he writes his notes on the board and gives detailed explanations.

Pros: One of the best teachers I've ever had. I would recommend Compton to anyone. He is a great teacher but also a great person. He really cares about his students and will work with you to have a better grade.
Cons: Compton is hard for people that have never had anything to do with poultry before; like myself. You have to be really dollegent and make sure you understand everything. Everything builds off each other. You can't miss a single lab or points are deducted. There is no book so his notes in class are the only way to learn.
Though he is hard for some, he is a great teacher and you will learn a lot. Most of all you will love going to his class.

Pros: Doesn't read off powerpoint so lecture isn't as boring as most classes
Cons: If you miss a day of lecture, you better have a friend! He doesn't post anything on eLC
He has high expectation, so he won't baby you with information, but it's definitely helpful for anyone studying poultry science or avian biology to take this class. Labs are never boring and it's pretty entertaining, also.
