Gospels
5*****
Pros: You will learn a ton about the Gospels. I am a Christian and my faith has been strengthened through this class. You get to learn so much about the Bible and see things you have never seen before. Very cool to get to read the Bible for homework.
Cons: It is a lot of work. Probably an hour of homework every night but if you do it you will learn a lot. The tests are tough but if you study a lot you should be good.
Coppins is a great teacher and is very funny.

5*****
Pros: Coppins is a great professor and you will learn a lot.
Cons: Attendance is a must. And so is reading every night. The exams are not easy, but not impossible.
He expects a lot from his students, which is great. He also offers extra credit points for each section, so DO THEM. Great class to fill your core requirements with

Gospels
5*****
Pros: Very knowledgeable, based class on discussion, with much of it being his own lecture.
Cons: A lot of reading.
Dr. Coppins is probably the best teacher I've had at UGA. He is very fair in his grading. This semester we had to take notes on the readings in Bel-Jean packets, and the lowest grade he gave was a 75 because we hadn't done anything like it before. He does randomly pick two dates of notes to grade, so slacking is not an option.

The Gospels were divided into digestable chunks and were accompanied by readings from textbooks chosen by Coppins. The texts weren't hard to read or take notes on. Class is discussion-based, first in small groups and then as a class. He is a very effective discussion leader; he lets students state opinions yet knows when to take charge. He never outright says anyone is wrong or has a stupid idea, but rather uses whatever a student says to draw out something about the reading that shimmers.

There is usually a term paper, but this semester he cancelled it because he has a newborn.

Tests are essay-based, along with a section where you have to identify which Gospel a certain verse comes from. One of the essay topics is given well in advance, and the other one comes from a section of Mark's gospel (e.g. ch. 8-16).

He is a very kind person and very welcoming; I visited his office and he seemed genuinely interested in my plans after graduation. He knows what he's talking about and is great and conveying it to students.

BIBLICAL GREEK
5*****
Pros: Dr. Coppins is an excellent instructor. He is very patient with students if they are struggling through a verse or if they have difficulty parsing a verb. He explains things clearly and is an overall outstanding professor. I highly recommend him for all of his classes. I've taken just about all of them.
Cons: There really aren't any. The only complaint I might have is that we go through too little Greek, but you examine it so thoroughly it makes up for it. You will really learn the grammar and meaning behind every verse.

GOSPEL OF JOHN
4****
Pros: Great teacher; There is a paper but it's done in stages throughout the semester with lots of deadlines for parts of it to keep you on track
Cons: Exam grading seems arbitrary; Watch out for those prepared essays; Also, obsessed with "unpacking" the material lol
Pros definitely outweigh cons. I would take him again if his hadn't been the last class left for my minor. I rarely showed up, chose not to write the paper, participated when I was there, studied my ass off before exams, and made a B.

Gospels
5*****
Pros: This is a wonderful course. Examining the Gospels from Mark's perspective and then examining the others in relation to him is a great concept. Coppins is a great professor who knows so much about the subject. The course is discussion based, so be prepared to participate at least once a week.
Cons: None.

Awesome class an awesome professor. Very easy to understand and work with. He gives three note card assignments on each of the religions that are studied-the only homework. Read the assigned readings, take notes, go to class and it's an easy A.
