PSYC 3980 - Research Design in Psychology
Just read the book and study your own notes and you can definitely get an A on the test. The test is straightforward and is on everything in the chapter. you have to turn in 2 major papers which are pretty hard because she's really picky about them. ...

Pros: Does not take attendance
She tries her best to make the subject interesting, but doesn't really succeed.
Cons: Will give out "assignments" or basically pop quizzes in class. So if you're not there for the day, you'll get a 0.
The class is EXTREMELY boring. It's hard staying awake or to keep up with what she's saying. She pauses a lot and goes off topic so it's hard to get a lot from her lectures.

Pros: you can play computer games all of class.
Cons: honestly, you want to kill yourself when she lectures. and she's a huge b*tch. she just tells you to look stuff up when you ask questions. She doesn't know what she talks about and just teaches directly from her powerpoint. I could do a better job teaching by strapping on a bra and reading from the book. she just sucks.

She is a simply okay teacher. If you are a freshmen I do not advise you take her class because she doesn't teach, she reads powerpoints that she does not make, the creators of the book made them. I think she is a decent teacher for students who already have a grip on what to expect in a college classroom. She also mentions a lot of studies in class that are not included in the lecture notes and sometimes are not in the textbook, so make sure you take notes and pay close attention. Also believe what the book says because she had a few times where she phrased things differently from the book or made altogether wrong statements about the information presented in class. P.S Be ready to listen to many...many stories about her kids.

Pros: kind of nice.....
Cons: Terrible teacher. Not helpful at all. If you are having problems, don't expect her to help you. She'll just refer you to her TAs and they won't help you either. Her two tests are difficult and confusing, and her two papers are graded very harshly. Take another teacher if you can!!

Pros: tries to act nice?
Cons: acts nice but really isn't. her teaching methods suck. her power points suck. she's a harsh grader..especially on the papers. it's literrally impossible to get an A on them. And she doesn't tell you how to improve on them. Oh and she lowered our grades on on of our tests because she thought the class average was to high. bottom line..dont take this class with her. she is unreasonably difficult.
terrible experience

Pros: The book is very helpful. She posts powerpoints.
Cons: She doesn't teach much. She gets off topic easily.
She posts the powerpoints long after she lectures them. Sometimes she'll post the majority of them the day before the test. The powerpoints have nothing extra helpful. It seems like they come straight from the book. Seems wasteful.

Pros: Attendance is not mandatory, most questions on the exam are straight from the textbook, mypsychlab is an excellent resource for the class, she drops the lowest online chapter exam and test, and she's not too bad to look at either

Cons: tests have 50 questions so it's pretty hard to get an A on them, before each exam you have to do 3 online chapter exams on mypsychlab before midnight, the final is cumulative so lots of coursework is covered
I stopped going to class after the 3rd week of the semester because all she really does is read a lecture off a powerpoint. Each exam covers 3 chapters from the text so you can really just read the chapters and use mypsychlab to study for it. For the final go to the TA and review old test. That's what I did and I saw lots of previous questions from each test on the final. Overall the class is pretty easy it's kinda hard to get an A in it. I got an A- but I'm sure if I went to class everyday I would've gotten an A. However, it was totally worth it not going to class.

Pros: you don't need to pay too much attention in class
Cons: this is the worst class i have ever taken. she is so boring and her power points are not helpful and absolutely pointless, i did not learn a single thing in the actual class time. she goes off topic constantly and rambles about stuff and never actually teaches anything in class.

this semester she used ViaResponse as a clicker-type attendance and pop quiz thing. she takes attendance and sometimes multiple attendance every single day and tells you that she expects you not to miss any days of class. she asks quick polls (clicker questions) and counts them for correctness. they can be very vague and also if you miss one day you most likely will miss those quick poll points. so even if your attendance is only missing like 3, your quick poll grade can still be really low which is stupid.

her test questions are completely vague and suck and you have to teach yourself from the book.

literally the worst class ever. take ANY other professor if you can.

The class itself isn't so bad, it's just really boring, and the lectures are pain because they're so boring and you can't miss them or else you might miss a pop quiz.

Pros: You can work on other things during class
Cons: She's not the easiest professor to approach and enjoys telling students "to look it up" whenever they ask questions. Her TAs grade everything so she really has no idea how her students are doing in the class and doesn't really care. She gives "quizzes" randomly to check for attendance but you are graded more on correctness than you are for just being there. Her tests can be tricky just in the wording of questions and the 2 papers are a complete waste of time.
It was obvious she didn't enjoy teaching this class because even she looked bored while lecturing. I've heard her speak about her interests (psychopaths and criminal psych) and she was wonderful and entertaining, so maybe taking her for a class more focused on that would be better. Do NOT take her for 3980, you won't learn much of anything and you more than likely won't even be able to get an A in the course!

Pros: Not a terrible class. Teacher is very nice and there is no attendance or quizzes. She relates things to herself and makes lectures somewhat interesting. Posts everything online. Easy online homework due before tests boost your grade. Drops lowest exam grade. Don't have to attend class to do well in the class.
Cons: Tests are pretty specific. You have to considerably study to make A's. She reads off a powerpoint that is not made by her. Final exam is cumulative and required.
Overall, not a terrible class. The lectures are pretty much straight from the book and if you study for a couple days before the test, you'll most likely do alright. Tests are somewhat specific, but you can usually narrow down to the correct answer. Teacher is very relatable to the students most of the time.

Pros: Nice lady

Learned a lot

Very approachable
Cons: harder than the other 3980 teachers

giant research proposal paper

pop quizzes pretty frequently

Have to study a lot to do well on the test
I really enjoyed Cyterski, and don't regret taking her. However, I had to work much harder than my other friends with other 3980 teachers to get a lower grade. I ended with an A- but with a lot of work. The assignments are kind of difficult and are on what you learn that day most of the time. The book is awesome and absolutely necessary. She takes some of her questions from the end of chapter exercises so look at those.

Pros: Dr. Cyterski does try to make the information more interesting by adding examples to her lectures.
Cons: The material is general pretty boring. While the subject material is easy, she words questions on test in a way that is confusing. Sometimes even when you do know the material you miss the question due to the way she asked it.
I would pick another teacher...

Pros: Great instructor, very knowledgeable about the subject (I took her for Psychology of Agression), and tough but fair for tests.
Cons: None- take her class is you can.
If you go to class everyday or most days and take decent notes, you will do fine. Her tests are structured around her notes, and can get detailed at times, but nothing impossible.

Amazing professor. She is passionate about teaching and does a wonderful job of sharing that passion with her students. The material in her research methods class is sometimes dry, but she makes it interesting! One of the best classes I've taken.

She's a good teacher I guess. Kinda has really specific tests... 4 tests... take 3 for your grade (21%, 21%, 21%). then a 27% final... and 10% for two small 2-3page papers... easy to tell she has 10% A's at the very most per semester..

Cons: Her tests are pretty difficult, and I think her TA's grade the papers pretty hard as well.

Pros: -You learn how to teach yourself
Cons: -Trina sucks, she is dry, and boring

-You have to dedicate A LOT of time outside of class if you really want an A

-Attendance is mandatory even though you could learn more just by reading the textbook on your own

-She is not specific about what she looks for in grading a paper

-She criticizes everyone and makes general statements.
She sucks. The material isn't even hard, but Trina doesn't know what she's talking about. She stands at the front of the classroom and talks about nothing. But you actually have to pay attention because she does TopHat questions after every class and counts them for accuracy. If you have a question, don't ask her, she'll just go around in circles talking about nothing and you'll get confused. Her TAs suck too. They seem occupied with other things and they're boring and kind of rude. Want to do well in this class? Read before you come to class, do everything by the book because she has no idea what she's talking about. Once I started going completely by the book, I zoned out in class all of the time and my test grades, TopHat grades, and paper grades improved.

She might be a good teacher to someone out there, but she was a shitty teacher to me. She has a horrible attitude, a smart mouth full of sarcasm, and does not deserve to teach this class.

Pros: Professor Cyterski is a really nice lady. She explains in classes quite well and is very easy to approach.
Cons: Her finals ask you random strings of questions form the book that you'd probably never remember.

She gives you a test less than a week before your final (it helped though). . .

There were instances where she'd freak out cause someone would need to leave early and walked out.
She has 4 tests throughout the semester. 1 test in January, february, march, and april. The tests are 50MC. (One will be dropped at the end of the semester) She likes to pose her questions in a way that you feel like you can choose more than one answer. She doesn't make her own power-points, so there will be things that she'll randomly cover in class that aren't on the powerpoint. You have weekly online assignments on Mypsychlab that will boost your final grade. She tries to accommodate students well! (I never got below and 84 on a test) I would recommend this class!

Pros: there are none
Cons: Boring class, terrible at lecture. Reads power points to you. Will not answer questions. Rude.
She is the worst professor I have ever had at UGA. Stumbles over her words to the point that you wonder if she even knows what she is talking about. Goes off on rants about her kids and husband. Tests are about 65 MC questions long and she is tricky with her wording. Read the book you will not pass just off her lecture notes. 2 short papers that are graded by the TA's. She does not care if her students do well. I will never take another class she teaches even if this means delaying my graduation. She is rude and bitchy. Takes attendance everyday via Tophat but doesn't know how to use it, blames the TAs for that somehow.

Pros: She was incredibly willing to answer my questions. I would show up at her office even when it wasn't her office hours and she still patiently answered all of my questions. She was also incredibly helpful outside of class before the research paper was due and right before tests.
Cons: The research proposal was hard, but I'm still glad I did it.
I loved Dr. Cyterski. You have to actually learn the material and read in order to do well in her class, but you learn A LOT. We had already talked about many of the things I am now learning in PYSC 3990, which has made it infinitely easier. If you ask for help, she's incredibly willing to answer your questions.
