BIRDS IN OUR LIVES
5*****
Pros: Easy class with lots of extra credit (usually up to 10-12 points per exam between assignments and bonus questions on the exams). Dr. Davis is really accessible and wants you to do well.
Cons: You have to teach yourself everything using the book, which isn't too hard since the material is easy, but can still be annoying. Also, the book is around $100.
This is a great class to take for an easy elective. As corny as it sounds, I have a whole new appreciation for birds after this class, and I learned a lot of cool, random facts. Exams come straight from the study guides he provides. If you memorize everything on the study guide, you should get an A no problem!

Pros: No textbook!

Easy tests! Easy quizzes!

Study guides for all tests!

He brings real birds to class!

Videos!

Lots of pictures on the slides!

Cons: Can be a little awkward/boring at times. But seriously, this was the best elective ever.
BEST elective ever! Just telling people the course title makes this class fun, but you also get to hold/interact with lots of different birds. Dr. Davis is really funny. If you use the study guide, the tests are a piece of cake.

Pros: Easy Class

Very Knowledgeable about subject

Great Professor who knows what's he's talking about. Brings in different birds frequently so students can interact with them. tests are fairly easy if you pay attention and go over the study guide that is given. pop quizzes are the easiest with obvious answers and are 5 questions true/false or multiple choice. overall good class to take if you just want an introduction of birds.

Cons: Moves quickly so bring your laptop. you're hand will get tired from speed writing.

PS there are no real cons to this class.

Pros: Fantastic professor! This class covers a lot of material and is difficult, but he makes it fun! He records all of his lectures and uploads them to elc so even if you miss one you can still watch it. Even though all of his ppts are online, you HAVE to either go to class or watch the lectures because he gives you so much extra information in class that’s not on the ppt. His tests are take home and open note and be prepared to spend a LOT of time on it. It is all free response. He may ask you to rank GnRH levels for 5 different women who all have different conditions and then you have to explain it. If you are struggling, go talk to him. He will help you anyway he can including making you a study guide for his tests. He’s very approachable.
Cons: None! He is a fantastic teacher.
Grades are ALWAYS curved. There are 3 tests, 1 paper, and 1 final. You’ll also have to write a literature review on a topic of your choice and it’s due the day of the final exam, but you can turn it in to him at any point during the semester and he’ll give you feedback. As long as you fix/add whatever he tells you to, you’ll get an A on it.

Pros: Really knows his stuff and good sense of humor

Brings birds to class frequently

Has guest speakers from time to time

Quizzes are an easy 5 questions (usually just T/F) based on the days lecture and you can keep your notes open. He gives 8, but drops your lowest 3. Easy to make 100 on all of them.

Offers two grading scales. Quizzes are more for those that come to class everyday. If you don't want to come to class, he will just value that tests at a different scale and drop the quiz grade. He runs the numbers both ways to see what gives you a better grade.

Offered an extra credit paper when the entire class seemed to struggle on the second exam to potentially add 15 points to your grade.

Cons: Seems nervous while teaching, but he openly admits that on the first day.
Learned a lot, very interesting to see all the birds he brings in. Easy A

Pros: Easy class. He brings in birds often. Guest speakers are interesting. Material isn't too technical, very interesting. Gives you reviews for test with everything that you need to know. No A-.
Cons: He hates public speaking, but he's such a great teacher that it doesn't even matter that he lectures with his eyes closed (seriously). Never really use the text book, but it is interesting to read.
Literally the best teacher that I've had at the University. He really cares about his students and is willing to help every one. He even said himself he would "work something out" if you screwed up the first test, but did well on the others. If you don't make an A in the class, then you've got to be lazy. He hands you everything you need to know to get a 100, plus bonus questions. TAKE HIM!

Pros: Davis wants to give everyone an A. If you showed that you made improvement on tests, or that you atleast TRIED, you'll probably get an A. Great guy who loves what he teaches (although he is afraid to teach). Overall I enjoyed this class and now know a bunch of fun facts about birds. Minimal efforts required for an A, but you do need to study.
Cons: On the first day of class, Davis talks about it being a "no pulse" class to get an A. Not necessarily true... You have to study the material and know it well. It's not difficult to learn, but after I failed the first test I gave myself 2 days to study for the other exams and did quite well.

Pop quizzes check for attendance, but you can drop 3!

Pros: interesting subject

great teacher

take home exams
Cons: hard tests

HAVE to go to class.
This is a great class, professor davis is a very fair grader and will not let any of his students fail. The grade is based on 3 take home exams and one final. The take home exams are all pretty much a series of analytical essays and are very time consuming but he directly gives you the answers in class. You really need to go to class everyday and take tons of notes on the powerpoints, but if you do so you will do really well in this class.Davis will post the powepoint outlines on ELC but not the actual notes which will be on the exam so you HAVE to go to class.

Pros: Puts all PowerPoints on eLC

Curves tests a few points (depending on your grade)

Gives study Guides for the tests

Drops 3 lowest quiz grades

Can use notes on quizzes
Cons: Not all of the notes are on PowerPoint

Style of the class makes it really easy not to have to go to class
GO TO CLASS. If you just go and pay attention you won't even need to study for the exam. The last exam is not even completely cumulative (20%). He is a really good teacher and frequently brings in birds that you can look and (sometimes) interact with. He also has guest speakers often.

Pros: Interesting class. I learned a lot of useless information that i'll never utilize later in life. The raptor section was really cool. He offers an extensive, but easy, extra credit option at the end of the semester for those who need it.
Cons: There are pop quizzes that are a large portion of your final grade, so you actually have to go.
You should take it. It's an easy A and you do learn a lot. He co-teaches with this other woman. She kinda sucks, but Dr. Davis is hilarious.

Pros: take home tests are tough, but you have a week to work on them. Usually the average is pretty low so he curves A LOT. Pretty awesome professor too- he knows his stuff and will always meet with you to answer any questions you have.
Cons: tests are tough
