Insects and the Environment
5*****
Pros: Great guy

No homework

Easy quizzes

If you need an elective, take this course. Espelie is a cool guy and everyday he wears a tshirt with a picture of what you'll be learning about that day. I have no interest in bugs or anything but he makes the class interesting. You watch A LOT of videos. There are 14 pop quizzes but they are only 5 questions each and are open note, and are only over what you went over that day. I made a 100 on every single one. As long as you're in class they're nothing to worry about. The tests are pretty easy too. If you show up for the quizzes and go over the material for the tests then this class should be a pretty easy A.

Pros: Something happened to my grade and it increased a total of 6 points. I thought it was a mistake but I'm bet Espelie curved something. He's cool like that.

He's an awesome professor and hilarious. You might hate bugs, but you'll laugh at his remarks throughout lectures and during videos.
Cons: During tests, points are counted off for spelling and not-exact explanations.
His whole class is rated on a 1000 point scale. There are two tests (worth 200 each) and a final (300 points). The other 300 points are on 17 pop quizzes he gives that are open notes and used for attendance. He will drop the two lowest quizzes. Overall, the class is easy. Apparently, around 60% of his class gets an A. He tells you to take note of certain information that will be on the test. However, take my suggestion and do not expect the exams to be the same as the ones from previous years. Make sure to study the old quizzes and know your stuff and you'll be fine!

Pros: Great guy

Easy A

Interesting material
Cons: You still have to show up to class to take notes and study hard for the first test. It is harder than many people tend to think.
Espelie is a great guy. He is passionate about entomology and is very interesting. If you are looking for an elective, take this class.

Pros: He loves his subject and all of his tests are either repeated questions from previous tests or variations of the questions.
Cons: big class, not much individual time, but its alright because he always shows up a bit before class and has office hours
The tests are very easy and the class is definitely interesting. Come to class and enjoy his lectures along with multiple video clips of bugs and whatever he feel like showing. The book isn't really necessary unless you'd like to read it. His pop quizzes are frequent (14 each semester) so you don't know when they are, but they are given based on whatever you talked about that day and they are open notes. Easy class, awesome teacher! You even have chances to win stuff in class, like a jar of honey or something

Pros: He makes class really fun and is a funny, quirky guy. Uploads all grades to eLC really quickly (we got our final exam grade posted 2 hours after we took it.
We had 14 pop quizzes at the end of class that were open note. Originally he said you could drop your lowest two, but later he just allowed anyone that had grades for all 14 to use them (meaning you could get over a 100 in the quiz category). So that helped my grade. The tests are easy if you study his old tests. You do need to study though-- it's mostly fill in the blank so you can't lean on multiple choice to save you. All around really interesting class and fun!

Pros: Notes posted on projector each class.

Uses a lot of visuals (movie clips, documentaries, commercials) that are fairly entertaining.

Very interesting class if you enjoy learning new things

He's clearly very knowledgeable

Straightforward about what will be on the exam

Quiz questions are repeated on the exam

Quizzes are open note
Cons: Quizzes are given at random throughout the semester

If you miss more than two they WILL affect your grade

Tests can be over A LOT of material
Overall, great class. Pretty easy A if you go to class and review your notes. Take Espelie for sure.

Pros: Easy Quizzes. He Tells you what is on the exams and what to study. Encourages using old tests.
Cons: No elc. Doesn't post notes online obviously if no ELC.
Dr. Espelie is probably the most self less professor you will ever encounter at UGA. He is extremely approachable and willing to advise you in what courses to take even if you aren't supposed to be advised by him. He genuinely cares about his students. Take him for an easy A and the opportunity to study under such an awesome professor!

Pros: Easy test. Easy open note quizzes
Cons: Cannot miss quizzes!
I personally don't like to go to every morning class, so I happened to skip some and was unlucky enough to miss a lot of quizzes. I scored A in all the exams, but got a B in that class due to poor quizz grades. But if you're bad at exams but can go to every class then this class is perfect for you. The exams were really easy I just had to study the night before the exam. No curves and no extra credits given.

Pros: Quizzes are open-note, he tells you what is on the tests, very interesting, not too many notes.
Cons: A couple questions on the final were unexpected, but not impossible.
Extremely interesting professor who obviously loves the subject. Enthusiastic and uses great visual aids including live specimens. Quizzes and tests are for the most part easy. 17 unannounced, 5-question quizzes that cover what was taught that day and are open-note. Great class!

Pros: Shows lots of videos in class. Tells you what will be on the exams. He has a wry sense of humor, which I enjoyed.
Cons: Class is nothing special. Come to class to take notes and take pop quizzes(17 total) as a way of attendance.
He like to show many videos, some of which aren't all that relevant. This wasn't always such a bad thing though. Class is easy, most people make As. He doesn't care if you're on your laptop doing whatever.

Pros: -Most of the test questions come from the quizzes (and the rest from the notes), so you won't see something you haven't before.

-Despite the material, he is not a boring professor.

-Very friendly, and helpful.
Cons: -Random quizzes that make attendance pretty vital

Easy A if you show up and take decent notes. Although attendance is basically mandatory (because of the quizzes), it is not a painful class to attend.

Pros: Easy...SO easy. Interesting. You watch a lot of movie clips. First class you watch the Lion King opening song.

He uses the same questions from past tests and quizzes, but sometimes changes the question to have the opposite answer.
Cons: It gets creepy/gross when you get into Spiders...
He wears shirts that correlate to the lesson that day.

I recommend this class as an elective. Such an easy class.

Pros: It's an easy A class. Just get the notes and study the night before. He's a good professor and the class was quite interesting.
Cons: He hands out open note quizzes, but they're really easy. The questions are straight from the notes, but if you miss lecture, you also miss the quiz. However, he drops either one or two of the lowest quiz grades. His tests are not open note, but they're super easy!

Pros: He is a wonderful professor. The class in interesting to say the least even if you hate everything about insects. The only homework we had was to read a book and it was not mandatory. His quizzes are open book and extremely easy. I highly recommend taking his class.
Cons: You waste a lot of paper taking notes but if you do not want to do that the notes are on Koofers too.

Pros: Lectures are not terribly boring

Tests are easy if you study the insect orders

He shows lots of videos that you don't have to take notes on
Cons: Must go to class for random quizzes that are worth a lot of points
Dr. Espelie is a great teacher and very old fashioned. He lectures using an overhead projector and shows videos through a VCR player.

Espelie is obviously really passionate about his subject and is a great professor. He uses videos to keep your attention and material that should be boring isn't. Take this course if you want an easy elective. The tests are easy if you know the material and he only gives quizzes as attendance, at the end of class with open notes. Easy A!

Pros: Espelie is really fun and makes the material interesting. We always watch videos that correspond to our lectures. There are two tests and a final and 14 random quizzes (open note).
Cons: There are 14 quizzes are random so you need to attend often. Two get dropped though, so there is some leeway.

Cons: No cons. Good choice for an elective.
