GEOG 1101
Human Geography: People, Places, and Cultures
1*
She is currently teaching what seems to be her 1st large 300+ lecture class. She is very scatter-brained and unable to understand the technology, she will become frustrated easily because she seems to be accustomed to a small class in which she can enforce participation. The clickers in this class that students purchased became a waste of money as she has hardly tried to understand the use of them. There are news quizzes and even if you study very hard for them, you will still be confused as you have no time to read 30 different top stories every single day. The practicums seemed to be a joke at first, but the t.a. will grade them based on grammar as well as informational accuracy, so work ahead of time and pay great attention to detail! If you want to read every single page of the every chapter prior to the tests, you'll do fine. That is only if you can apply what you have read to the powerpoints and off-topic discussions from lecture. This course is insightful, but was supposed to be a simple course in relation to other topics.

Human Geography: People, Places, and Cultures
1*
Pros: No attendance required. Not much work for this class.
Cons: TA grades hard. On the essays, he grades for grammar even though it is a human geography class. Dr. Kurtz is used to a small classroom and tried to teach 300+student class. Big fail. You will not retain any information at lectures. Biggest waste of time. News quizzes are not even on geography type material and she expects you to know ever news story in the world. Her test are hard. This class was suppose to be an easy A, but it has turned out to be my lowest grade this semester.

GEOG 1101
Human Geography: People, Places, and Cultures
2**
Pros: none, really
She spoke into a microphone that didn't work, therefore nobody could hear her. When the microphone was working, she said she "wasn't comfortable" speaking any louder... so you still couldn't hear anything. Her tests were super hard and the power points in class did not help at all. Overall she was not very helpful and her office hours varied.

Human Geography: People, Places, and Cultures
1*
Pros: She doesn't take attendance.
Cons: She doesn't put anything she teaches in lectures on the test unless it's random information that she knows no one is listening too.
Do NOT take her. It's horrible.

Human Geography: People, Places, and Cultures
1*
Pros: stumbleupon saved my life from being bored to death
Cons: -very scatter-brained, thoughts all over the place

-lectures are extremely hard to follow
she said this was her first time teaching a lecture (300 people) and that she usually teaches small classes so maybe that would explain why it was so bad.

She is not a very good teacher. You need to do a lot of book reading if you want to do well. Her tests are hard. Also, she gives weekly news quizzes that don't have to do with geography and they are very specific questions. I would not suggest this teacher.

GEOG 1101
Human Geography: People, Places, and Cultures
2**
Pros: She is very learned and knowledgeable about human geography.
Cons: She is used to teaching smaller, higher level classes. So she has a hard time narrowing the information and being specific about topics. Her tests are not easy and it's very difficult to study for them
She is a nice professor, but overall, she has a hard time teaching a class of 300 people. She doesn't narrow the information well and her tests are difficult to prepare for. News quizzes are good as long as you stay updated on the topics she emphasizes. I used the Fox news app on my droid and i did well on most of the news quizzes. Make sure you hit the big international issues.

Human Geography: People, Places, and Cultures
2**
Pros: Great teacher overall
Cons: Extremely difficult class to be intro level
I would not recommend Dr. Kurtz for a lower level class, as she has never taught one. She is extremely difficult and her workload is insane. Having to know four chapters of book information, all of the powerpoints, and every country of a continent for each test is ridiculous.

Pros: Very nice when you have questions. Is passionate about the subject.
Cons: Tests are very difficult. Lecture is extremely boring if you are not very into the subject. This subject has a ton of reading that goes along with it so be prepared.
Not a terrible course but definitely not a favorite of mine. Much harder than you would think.

Introduction to Urban Geography

She assigns a lot of reading articles, and sometimes they are very long and hard to comprehend. All of her tests are take home, but that means they are just more difficult. The topics are really interesting, and her door is open for talking, if you ever have any questions.
