POLS 1101 - American Government
Pros: He's really into the subject matter and brings in clips from SNL and the Daily Show to showcase what he's talking about. The guy never seems like he doesn't want to be there and makes a ton of corny jokes. Keeps the class kind of light.
Cons: It's a required class that has a discussion section so prepare yourself to sit in a room once a week and hear bigots from all walks of life try and defend why or why not stuff like abortion, gay marriage and guns on campus should or should not be legal.

POLS 1101 - American Government
Breakout focuses on GA politics and is run by the TA. So depending on your TA, it can either be really fun or really boring
Pros: Cool Guy. Loves his subject so he is passionate about poli sci. He uses his nerdyness to crack jokes. Tests are actually pretty easy if you study properly. Lets class out early pretty often.
Cons: He reads off the slides and only elaborates on the difficult concepts, if there is some background info. you need to know, or he has an interesting story. This made me feel like i didn't need to go to class.

Pros: -plays SNL clips to relate lecture material

-has all of his lectures online

-lectures are clear and methodical

-seems like he likes teaching

-attendance not required
Cons: -breakout sessions can mess you up if you get a strict TA

-breakout attendance is required and it's on fridays

-tests are pretty difficult; final is a killer

reading book is pretty important. breakout sessions are not fun and if your TA is strict your tests may be graded harshly( there is short answer). boring subject makes it hard to pay attention or care at all. multiple choice questions can be tricky.

He's a good teacher, entertaining but he teaches straight from the book and then later uploads his powerpoints online, and then the test are directly from his slides.

Pros: Tests are not that hard, but will require some studying. Usually consisting of 10 matching(2 pts each), 30 multiple choice (2 pts each), and 2 essay questions (10 pts each)

Went to class literally about 10 days in the semester and got a B+.

He posts his slides online

Super funny and entertaining

NO attendance policy in lecture.

Gives you essay questions week before the exam
Cons: He posts his slides online, so you are more inclined to stay in the bed.

No exam study guides

Cumulative final

Mandatory Breakout-session

Examination success relies heavily on TA communication.

Madonna was a great lecturer I enjoyed his humor and learned lot from him. He is a VERY intelligent man, and I highly recommend the class.

Pros: Prof. Madonna is the man!!! Seriously take him if you can! I had him for 1101 and 2000. He really cares about all of his students and he wants to really engage everyone. The research paper seems scary at first, but he will help you so much if you go to his office hours. Even after you finish the semester with him, he still wants to help in any way he can if you email him with advice on further classes.
Cons: The research paper takes up a lot of time, so just start in advance instead of waiting until the last 2 weeks

Pros: great teacher, really wants his students to do well, always available for office hours, very fair, funny, easy going, if you need to make up something (if you sleep through the exam) he'll do his best to help you out.. great class
Cons: one major paper, but it's not very difficult and is not graded extremely hard.

Pros: Understands that 99% of the class is there to fulfill their graduation requirements, so he doesn't try to make everyone future politicians, and makes things that will be on the test extremely obvious. He is also pretty damn funny.
Cons: Not really many. He doesn't drop a test, which can really suck if you screw up one. He's also sort of dorky, but he basically uses it to add humor to the classes, so it's not really a bad thing.
Basically, he pretty much outright told everyone that he knows that the majority of the people are taking the class cause they have to so he doesn't drag on about how important the class is or feel self empowering to "prove" the class is important by making it extremely hard. Lectures really aren't "required" and he jokingly (I think) reintroduced himself for the first test because he knows a lot of people don't go to them. He is pretty hilarious in class though, and really makes things obvious that something is going to be on the test. He also gives out the essay topics that will be on the test the last class before the test, and doesn't put them online, so it is worth it to show up for that. He pulls a lot of his questions from things out of the textbook, so a quick read over every chapter is really helpful. Anyone who thinks this class is hard just isn't putting any work into it at all... I literally read through the chapters once, a day or two between each exam, and look over the slides he puts online, and will make an A in the class, pending the final. I rarely go to class just because it is after another class that I have at 9am on MWF that I always skip anyways, so its sort of useless to wake up for this class when it isn't required. Breakout is every Friday, which is required, but again, I had an awesome TA, who made things on the pop quizzes really obvious and went over stuff from class in detail, highlighting what he put emphasis on and what we should focus on.

Pros: He is really passionate about Political Science. He tries to make it easy for everyone to understand. He also tries to make it funny. He is easy to pay attention to. He also posts his powerpoints and gives you 4 essay prompts (only 3 will be on the test, you choose 2 to do) the class session before the test. He also usually lets class out early.
Cons: In order to get a good grade, you really need to work hard! Especially for test three which is really difficult. The final is fairly easy though. There is also a mandatory breakout session every Friday (you can only miss two) and there is usually a quiz in every one. Tests (3) are worth 20% of your grade, and the final is worth 30%.
Overall, he is a great, passionate teacher! The only real downfall is the difficult tests, but you just have to put a lot of effort into studying.

Pros: You don't have to go to class

Study guides

everything is on powerpoints online

Test aren't that bad if you study for them
Cons: Lots of material

Depends on your TA how you are graded but I had a great TA

some questions on test 2 and 3 can be tricky
Overall it was a pretty easy class if you studied. He pretty much just reads off the slides so you don't really need to come to class except the day before the test because he gives the short answer questions then. I'm by no means great at political science or any type of government, but Ive made 100's all the first 3 test and I don't go to class

Pros: Great teacher. He really knows his stuff and actually makes political science interesting. He's also kind of funny. His powerpoint notes are online
Cons: If you do not study for his tests, then the class will be more difficult.
Overall great class. If you study for the tests there is no chance of not getting a good grade in class. He offers as much help as needed. Do not skip lectures. He gives hints to what questions will be on the test as well as helpful hints to the answers he is looking for on the essay portions of the tests.

Pros: Fun

Watch SNL sketches and other funny videos pertaining to politics
Cons: Can get bogged down in the readings
Madonna is great and he is very laid back which makes the typically boring required political science course somewhat interesting. Most classes start off with an SNL sketch and a few news articles to discuss and talk about. Usually only 30 minutes of class is devoted to actually going through the assigned chapters and accompanying powerpoints. The tests are really easy and any honors students should be able to make an A.

Pros: Very funny and nerdy guy. There are 3 exams and a final and the other grade is you breakout session grade. Class is not necessary attendance but GO TO CLASS. His tests do not just come from the power points. You will do well if you go to class and read the online powerpoints/the book.
Cons: Tests can be tricky.

Breakout sessions can only be missed twice and they have pop reading quizzes.
Overall, if you work hard and go to class, you should be able to get a good grade. I'd take Madonna again.

Cons: He talks sooo fast. I had trouble keeping up with him even when using my laptop to take notes. The tests are tricky and over A LOT of material.
Start studying for his tests more than the night before, each test has a lot of material on it that takes more time to absorb than you would think. Hope that you get as awesome of a TA as I did, he helped my breakout by giving us study guides of what he thought was important.

Pros: tells you exactly what to study

sometimes hints what is going to be on the test
Cons: pop quizzes in break out section

boring

power point is based on topic sentence out of the book
His tests are tricky. You have to read everything in the book to have a better chance of passing. He goes off on a tangent a lot but he does explain his material very well. Break out quizzes are tricky too. It is a lot of reading

Pros: can do well if you go to class and take notes. madonna is funny and keeps class light and interesting with snl clips and nerdy jokes.
Cons: speeds through lectures so be a speed writer/typer. powerpoints are online but i would recommend taking notes in class anyways.
tests arent too bad if you find online practice tests and take notes but are tricky if you slack and skip a few days.

Pros: Good teacher, really knows his stuff, really funny and nice and always has a couple of funny video clips from SNL or the Colbert Report to begin class
Cons: He just reads the slides verbatim, and they are already online, class is somewhat boring but I expect that from a govt. class
I would definitely recommend taking this guy, tests are easy if you do the reading and take notes.

Pros: Knowledgeable about the material and tries to keep the interest of the students.
Cons: Sometimes has difficulty getting the class to participate.
This was an 8 AM class so it was rather tough to get up and be engaged in class that early but he showed a little SNL or youtube clip related to politics every morning to keep it interesting.

Pros: Tests aren't too terribly. Basically vocabulary and being able to answer questions off of those words. He is pretty funny too.
Cons: Reads off of the slide, trails off during lecture, pop quizzes in the break out classes are random and fairly difficult. My TA is super picky on the short answer questions, so it also depends on your TA.
