Pros: She's a good teacher and genuinely knows what she's talking about.
Cons: Preparing for tests can be stressful because of the amount of material covered.
She is very straightforward and explains the history just as it will be presented on the test. The artistic techniques and architectural elements are easier to understand than I thought they would be. I read the book for the first test, which helped my confidence level and was an additional way to study, but overall you can get along very well without reading the book (it's very lengthy and I would NOT suggest reading all of the material she posts on her syllabus).

Tests are "easy" in the sense that they are very straightforward, but be prepared to absorb A LOT of information from lectures.

Ms. Pauly is an AWESOME teacher! You can tell that she really loves what she does. She does go really quick, but she tells you exactly what's gonna be on the tests.

Pros: Very nice

Very helpful

Easy tests

Passionate about art history

Great lecturer
Cons: A ton of note-taking

Mrs. Pauly was definitely my favorite art history teacher throughout my first year of college. She's very helpful and wants all of her students to do well. The class grade is based on four tests, so make sure you study for them even though they are fairly easy (they contain multiple choice, fill in the blank, short answer, true/false, and comparison essays). Attendance is mandatory and is taken with a sign-in sheet. The class requires a ton of note-taking, but she keeps you engaged.

Art History I: Cave Painting to Michelangelo
5*****
Pros: knowledgeable, friendly, very easy tests
Cons: will not tolerate any form of tardiness, will not meet with you outside of office hours
tests are easy, especially if you have taken an art hist class before, with six slide identifications. content on tests comes directly from lectures. as far as reading the text goes, you only need to skim the sections about each specific art work. the way she grades essays on tests is vague and seemingly arbitrary, she will write "excellent" at the top of the essay and take off two points.

Pros: Pauly is AWESOME. She's one of the best teachers I have ever had. She keeps the lectures so interesting. If you go to class and take notes and study, you will do very well. The tests are MC, t/f, short answer, IDs, and an essay. The essay isn't bad... she gives you 4 questions before the test to outline and then she chooses one of them. TAKE PAULY
Cons: Class is mandatory (sign in sheet)... but that can be a good thing because without getting the notes from class, you won't do well.

Pros: Probably the best teacher to take for art history because she doesn't sound like the teacher off charlie brown, keeps on the subject and gets to the point, gives very good reviews before test and gives you everything you need even powerpoint to help study with online, nice and friendly.
Cons: Puts "pop" questions on exams, if you didn't take the time out to read before the exam, your screwed for the questions on the exam.

Pros: Amazing lecture - She kept my attention everyday and had a true passion for the subject that made it all interesting and memorable.
Cons: She requires a text book, however, I found it was not worth the purchase because you can find all the same information easily on the internet.
I would take this professor again in a heartbeat! I wish she taught some upper level art histories.

Art History I: Cave Painting to Michelangelo
4****
Pros: She really likes what she teaches and plans out her power points well. You'll usually get out a few minutes early. Her exams cover a lot, but they are not that hard if you study. Every test has an essay but she'll give you the options before you take it.
Cons: Attendance policy, but only tests count for the grade
