ADSC 2010 - Introductory Animal and Dairy Science
THE FINAL= hard. Study a month or two in advance. If you did it right, it'll be fine.
I'll probably make a B, but I had an A until the final :/
Pros: Pringle is an amazing teacher and he really knows his stuff. Like it was said, you don't need the book.
Cons: STUDY STUDY STUDY. Study in advance, for all of your tests. It's possible to make A's. Know diagrams= everything. Time management is key.

Pringle is an awesome guy, very down to earth and willing to answer all of your questions in class. BUT...his tests are very difficult and fairly long. He writes test with all T/F, fill in the blank (And on one test there was matching), and short answer/problems. HE concentrates a lot of his test questions on little facts that you may overlook while studying. He loves numbers, facts, and figures and shows this on tests. Often times you may believe he is going to concentrate on one topic more than the others and that is rarely the case. Great teacher, and if you aren't taking any other difficult classes and can devote long hours to studying for this you'll do well. FYI the friday before spring break he gave us an extra credit opportunity for 8 points, so plan ahead it might happen again.

Hey makes the tests from the powerpoints. He uploads all of the powerpoints before the beginning of the semester. Don't buy the book, but you need to be very meticulous about the powerpoints.

Pros: Pringle is really nice, he takes the time to learn everyone's face and name.
Cons: the TA's grade and create the quizzes/tests, so if they're unorganized, you're unorganized. When they give you incorrect study info, you're out of luck. You don't get to talk to Pringle about your progress, you get to talk to them. Lots of info to memorize - use flashcards and koofer's pasts tests. You won't get your grades for a long time, so don't depend on that to decide whether to drop or not.
helpful to look at past quizzes/tests on koofer's, they recycle a lot of the questions. study in advance. The course is mostly power point lectures, so if you have issues paying attention to slides for an hour, definitely record the lectures or get a note-taker. I wouldn't give Pringle a bad rating, but I give the course a bad rating. In general, the grades are returned late, the material is unorganized, and personally, my TA's weren't prepared. They often uploaded our study material late at night the night before the test.

Pros: Awesome teacher! He thinks it's more important for his students to actually learn the stuff from his class. He offers extra credit to which i strongly recommend doing because it's fun and you learn more stuff for his class.
Cons: Tests are difficult. Study and memorize EVERYTHING. It takes a lot of studying but it's worth it. If you take the time to memorize the slides, you will do great on the tests. Go to the classes and write down details that he repeats or writes on the slides. They will be on the exams.

Pros: He is a great teacher, really loves his line of work and knows his stuff
Cons: The tests/quizzes are EXTREMELY hard and are FULL of information

Review sessions are not very helpful
His class is interesting, but his voice can get kind of boring and monotoned.

You HAVE to go to class, not that there is an attendance policy, but if you don't go you will not know the material.

His tests are EXTREMELY hard and are soooo full of information. The little tiny line of info on the slide? Yeah, you better know it.

HARD class and has proven to me I don't want to work with large animals/farm animals in the future, but interesting nonetheless.

Pros: good teacher, interesting subject. The lab is awesome and it does go along with the lecture. Pringle posts his notes online with blanks, so it makes it easy to take notes in class.
Cons: his tests are RIDICULOUS. So specific. So the class will be very time consuming if you have any desire to do well on his tests and quizzes.
Really interesting class over all. And Pringle is really laid back, doesn't care about tardies, absences, etc. Very east to talk to and will help you get a internship of you are pre-vet. Its a good class to take!

Pros: lecture slides online, review sessions for exams and quizzes
Cons: lots of information
Dr. Pringle is an amazing teacher! He gets off on tangents sometimes and really in depth during lecture but the class is pretty easy. His tests can be hard, but if you put the time into studying it is pretty straight forward. Lots of information and requires a lot of time and memorization but there are review sessions before the tests and quizzes that are very helpful depending on the TA giving the review.

Pros: working with animals, get to see the production side of animals a little, awesome class
Cons: lab is friday afternoons at 2:30,
I love this class! Dr. Pringle is one of the best teachers I have had! The homeworks are not hard, the tests are not hard, and can be an easy A if you put the time and effort into the class. I would definitely recommend everyone to take this class at some point, very interesting and a lot of fun working with animals and getting to see the carcasses and evaluating.

Pros: Hands-on with the live animals and the carcasses. Very interesting class!
Cons: Tests are really hard, and you have to really study and pay attention to the lectures.
Overall great class. I really enjoyed it. Pringle is a really good teacher and is always willing to help you understand certain material. He tries to trick you on the tests, so make sure you not only know that facts, but also understand how to apply them to different situations. Definitely recommend this class!!

Pros: extensive knowledge

easy subject matter

very relevant to animal sciences majors
Cons: very hard tests

thick accent
Pringle clearly understands and cares about his field a lot but his tests are a bit ridiculous. The best thing your an do is attend the review sessions and get your hands on tests from previous years because often the questions are very random.

FYOS 1001
First-Year Odyssey Seminar
5*****
Pros: We made hot dogs

He was a really cool guy

Knew a lot about the food industry and wanted to teach us about it
Cons: We had to do a couple of lab reports

Event papers (for all FYOS though)
Kind of a useless rating for the professor overall, but his FYOS was pretty interesting. It was called "The All-American Hot Dog." We basically learned about the history of the hot dog and how it was actually a clean process. The only downside to this FYOS was the fact that we had to do a couple of lab reports and a PowerPoint about a non-meat ingredient used in the production of hot dogs. Other than that, Dr. Pringle was a really cool, interesting guy and making hot dogs was awesome. They were good too!

Pros: Very nice man.

Willing to help you

TA's are very helpful in review sessions
Cons: Tests and quizzes are specific

Final is cummulative and significantly harder than other tests
If you want to make an A, I would recommend coming to class everyday. The powerpoints have blanks in them. Most of his questions are taken from the slides, but some of them are details he mentions quickly during class. The class is pretty straightforward with no busy work or projects.

Pros: He's an awesome professor! He loves what he teaches and he will make sure that you understand everything (ask questions if you don't get something!).
Cons: Lots of studying. He covers a lot of things. Don't wait until 2 days before the test to start studying, because they cover a lot of different topics. The final is extremely hard.
Just keep studying throughout the semester and then you should be fine. STUDY.

Pros: Nice, sincere teacher, knows the material.
Cons: Teacher is uninvolved - the TA's write and grade all quizzes and tests. If you have a bad TA, you'll have a bad class. Ours didn't know any of the material and graded things incorrectly all the time. You won't get your grades until months later, and there's tons of statistical info on the tests.
