FREN 1001
ELEMENTARY FRENCH
4****
Pros: -very sweet demeanor, cares about students' success

-very good french accent, so it helps you form your own accent

-reasonable with learning grammar/vocab

-tests are consistently made around the same format, will tell you essay topics
Cons: -speaks in french almost all the time

-large amounts of tedious homework, can help your grade if you do all of it, but honestly there was so much of it i was bogged down and never did any of it

-quizzes are quite difficult

-need to go to class to do well
I have been taking French since I was in kindergarten and reached French 6 in high school, and she was the best French teacher I have ever had. She is very understanding about the limited ability of her students, and will work with you if you seek out her help. I had to miss a test and she allowed me to retake it at a later date which is something I know a lot of other professors would never do. Her class time is enjoyable because she varies our daily activities (grammar lessons, watching clips from movies, partner discussions, work from textbook) and never drones on like a lot of professors I know.

Many do not appreciate the fact that she speaks in French for the entire class, but I found this to be very helpful. If you have any French background in high school, she is very easy to understand, but if you have only taken French for one semester in college it can be a little difficult, but she speaks in English when explaining grammar concepts.

Very sweet, approachable, and never asks too much of you. I would highly recommend Rizy.

ELEMENTARY FRENCH
2**
Pros: Young and Relatable

A lot of homework to help bring up grades
Cons: Very difficult tests and pop quizzes

Grades for accuracy on homework rather than completion

Very little English is spoken

Hard to get an appmt. or meet with her during office hours

I actually had her for FREN 1002, but for some reason she is not listed under that class. Overall I did not think she was a very good teacher. It is understandable that French should be spoken most of the time, however, I thought that when learning new concepts, it is needed, especially in a class building foundations, that they should be explained in English. Ask her a question, she will always answer in French.

** FYI: Over half of my class dropped the class because they were failing!

4****
Pros: Speaks mostly in English while trying to adjust the class to hearing French at the same time. She is always willing to explain anything and has no problem talking to the students outside of class.
Cons: The online French homework is sometimes too much of a workload due to the fact that the class meets Monday-Thursday.

3***
Pros: She's nice.
Cons: It takes here four weeks before she only speaks to you in French through the entire class. Seriously. Even though this is the class for those with no prior experience in French, she does so, which makes it hard to keep up (were it not for the book and online homework, we would be in deep trouble).

Cons: She is sparactic with teaching and sometimes forgets stuff
She has been one of my favorites so far, especially as a TA. Easy to talk to and makes you feel comfortable learning a new language.
