HIST 3362H
20TH CENT EUROPE
4****
Pros: Can rewrite papers for a higher grade
Cons: Lots of reading

No tests-only papers
This course is very reading intensive. You put in a lot of time for a 3 hour course. Some of the reading isn't very interesting and very difficult to wade through. Sometimes the instructions for the papers aren't very clear--verify with him exactly what he wants. You can resubmit papers for a higher grade.

HIST 2302

5*****
Pros: Insanely interesting class. There is a lot of writing, but it's more or less a reading check for the textbook with assign sources. Funny guy and fun class.
Cons: Rambles.

HIST 2302
History of Western Society Since 1500
4****
Pros: Soper is very passionate about this subject. he is very knowledgeable about everything and gets very passionate about it. he is also willing to meet with students about problems or questions. he gives all the potential questions ahead of time, but preparing is a lot of work
Cons: there is a TON of work for this class. there are only two tests that make up about 50% of the grade or maybe even more. they cover a lot of material and are detailed. also, there is one paper that he picks the topic for and gives you a limited amount of resources you have to use and pick through that counts heavily toward your grade. the breakout required a written essay of two pages doubles spaced each week and required participation in the discussion. it's a lot of work for only about 10 or 15 % of the grade.
he's a good teacher but the class required a lot of time and effort.

HIST 2302
History of Western Society Since 1500
5*****
Pros: Great professor with interesting lectures. You get a lot of information out of this course, and the work load feels rewarding. He is a fair grader.
Cons: A lot of reading, and it is helpful to keep up with it. Response paper due every week in section, but it's a pass or fail assignment. They are an easy way to boost your grade.
If you are willing to do the reading, take this class!

HIST 2302
History of Western Society Since 1500
4****
Pros: The material is interesting. He's a nice professor who is approachable. Homework is also very easy.
Cons: The two out of class essays are in prompts which are difficult to understand. So what he wants you to write about is a bit unclear. Also he talks in a bit of a dry monotone voice.
Attend class. There are two in class tests which should be easy if you attended class. They're based on material he spoke about in class. Each question is looking for specifics he mentioned in class. If you attended class the specific details he is looking for you to mention on the tests should be obvious. Also, homework is a breeze.

HIST 2302
History of Western Society Since 1500
4****
Pros: Interesting class. Soper is a nice and funny guy.
Cons: Weekly papers due. Grade depends on the TA, because they do all the grading.
Midterm - Short answer and essays. Final - Essay form only, but Soper expected way too much for the amount of time allowed. He held the final during regular class, so we had 50 minutes to write 7-10 pages (what he expected). Yeah right.
