Pros: Exams easy if you go to class/know your material. You have to practice the work posted on ELC if you want to remember how to do the problems. You're given a formula sheet for the exam. Extra credit question(s) on the exam.
Cons: A lot of in-class assignments. They can affect your grade if you aren't there for them but if you go to all of them you'll end up getting a little extra credit. Multiple choice questions on the exams can be a bit tricky.

Pros: SUCH a great teacher, I'm so bad at math and she broke it down into a step by step process to where I got everything she was doing. She is very good at answering questions and making sure you understand before moving on and was always available for questions before, after and during class. She almost always told you all the "tricks" in the math problems that would appear on the test beforehand in the practice problem sets. She provided practice problems and tests for each subject covered and with all the subjects combined so you had to discriminate between subjects and statistical tests.
Cons: She spoke very fast and sometimes her questions on the tests could be very tricky despite providing "tricks" on the practice exams.
Practice, practice, practice. I went to every single class and took decent notes; always went to the optional review sessions and did all the practice problems/tests the night before the tests. She does do random group checks during class to make sure you're attending class (this is important because at the end of the semester she may give bonus opportunities if you've been here for all or most of the group checks!! I never really worried about this class and that's saying something because I HATE math and usually have a really hard time with it. I got an A in the class and made almost all As on every single test in the class. Overall, if you can take 3990 with Vandellen, DO IT! She's hilarious!

Pros: Dr. Vandellen is a great teacher!! The class is very easy as long as you go to class and know the material. No book to buy just online notes you have to purchase but they aren't expensive! The notes are fill in the blank and give examples. She posts practice problems on eLC and if you understand how to work them then you should get an A in the class. Has extra credit questions on the exam. Sometimes will tell you what is going to be on the tests. The multiple choice questions on the test are sometimes tricky but if you think through them you can figure them out logically. However only a few per test and don't count as much. Very flexible with how you work a problem.

Lab is a joke--really easy you basically don't have to try.
Cons: Only bad con is that there are a lot of in class assignments. You can only miss one to still get a 100 for that section of your grade but you need to go to the class anyways to get the notes and understand how to do the work.

Pros: Made a stat class interesting somehow!
Cons: It's math.
I loved Dr. VanDellen! She made the stat class interesting and offered lots of clear examples. Her tests were exactly like the examples in the notes.

Pros: - She is GREAT at explaining concepts, even when they are kind of confusing

- She's willing to answer any questions that you have thoroughly - she'll explain things in multiple different ways if that's what it takes for you to understand it

- She gives up to two extra credit points on every exam

- She's very nice and pretty funny, which is great when you're learning about such a dry subject

- The final is optional

- She often lets class out early

- Posts practice exams for every test

- Always has an optional review day before exams

Cons: - Some material is confusing

- Attendance isn't mandatory, but you can only get extra credit if you're there on the days that she gives it out
I absolutely loved taking this class with Dr. Vandellen. She's extremely knowledgable and engaging enough to make you pay attention in class. The extra credit points come from group checks that she assigns periodically - basically, at the end of class, she'll have you get into groups of 4 or 5 and work on a simple problem related to the material you're covering. If you're present to complete it, then you get an extra credit point on the exam.

Getting her textbook is optional; however, I would recommend it. It comes with fill-in-the-blank notes packets, which makes it way easier to follow along during lecture, as well as useful practice problems for every topic that you cover. I believe that my success in this class (I got an A) was definitely made easier to achieve because of having the textbook.

Lab sections were super easy. All you do is go in each week and the TA teaches you how to complete a test on SPSS, then you do a worksheet based on that. It never took me the entire class period to finish. I had Julie for my TA, who was extremely sweet and helpful. I've heard all of her TAs are good though!

If you need this class for your major, you need to take Dr. Vandellen. She's the best!

Pros: Take her class!! I'm a senior and not the smartest student here and this class was one of my favorites! She was very straight forward with material and made it easy to understand. She also answeres any question you have after class and welcomes you to visit office hours. Her test are just like the examples she goes over in class so if you understand how to do those then you will make an A. She LOVES people who speak out in class and go to her office hours. I struggled in Statistics and had to take it again and when I got to this class i was nervous about another Stat class but she literally re-taught Stat for me. Now I love statistics!! If you're looking for a great/easy/fun teacher TAKE HER CLASS!!
Cons: She doesnt take attendence but she does notice through the semester if you aren't there. She memorized everyones names. If you dont go to the review and then email her with a question she wont answer it. Which is fair. You want to go to the review anyways.

Pros: No textbood needed. She prints out everything you would potentially need from a textbook.

She provides note printouts with blanks to fill in. If you come to class, and study these, the class is a peace of cake.
Cons: If you hate stats or math in general... You will find this class to be very boring.

Grading scale is skewed, so to make an A you have to get all of the questions but 1, or maybe 2 correct.
The professor has a very effective teaching style, and will always repeat things as needed by students, or take a stab at explaining things from a different perspective.

Pros: I never worked for this class and made a high A. No textbook, easy tests, practice tests online are almost identical to the exam and they were basically all I studied besides reading over my notes once or twice.
Cons: I like math, and she moved WAY too slowly. I understand that she was trying to accommodate those who don't enjoy stats or math, but I was bored in class a lot. She also got snarky a few times (don't call her "miss," ALWAYS "Doctor.")
If you don't like math, you may enjoy this class more than I did. The tests were easy, but I was bored a lot.

Dr. Vandellen is a very good teacher! She doesnt use a powerpoint she just puts notes online and fills in the blanks during class. Attendance isnt mandatory but she will randomly do a group activity that is pretty much an attendance check that is part of your grade. The tests arent bad at all, and the answers can be pulled straight from the notes. The only slightly bad things about this course is 1. the lab option = completely pointless and 2. you have to get a 95 or higher to recieve an A.

Pros: Tries her best not to make the cass boring and takes the time to explain everything, and explain it simply. This course has helped me in a statistics course that I had to take afterwards.
Cons: Subject matter is still pretty boring.
No need to purchase a book, she will explain everything off of her own notes that she posts online. You just need to fill in the blanks and write down examples.

Pros: She is a great professor. I loved her energy and helpfulness. She really tried to remember people's names and that was also nice of her. She was very very helpful during office hours (also in class). There is extra credit and partial credit on the tests. The final was optional.
Cons: The material is kind of difficult. The Statistics and math in it were not so fun.

Pros: She explains everything in great detail and is always willing to answer any question. She's so easy to understand, and even easier to talk to, she was so great. Statistics classes can be either hit or miss but she makes learning the material interesting and easy. Her tests are very fair and easy to make A's on.
Cons: None! Register for her class if you can!

Pros: There is no book, no homework, she types up the majority of the notes you take and posts them on eLC. There are four tests and the final.
Cons: When she's in a bad mood you definitely know it. There are "group checks" almost everyday so attendance is basically mandatory.
