MATH 140H
CALCULUS I
5*****
Pros: Really nice guy,

teaches thoroughly
Cons: None
He's a really nice guy.

He also taught materials in great details and explained so well.

Even if you enter his class with pre-calculus knowledge, you will understand and pass the class if you put effort.

TA was amazing too.

That being said, i didn't feel as though he curved, i mean Calc 1 eh?

Justin does a brilliant job teaching a course that could have been potentially very difficult. You will literally learn a new concept every single lecture, but Justin does an excellent job conveying it at a very reasonable pace. He has a very laid-back personality, to boot (He's not married, so there you go).

The tests are easy if you study and go to all your discussions. Which you will have to, because there will be at least one pop quiz every week. His tests look exactly like the practice exams.

You will have Matlab "projects" due every month and a half. He basically tells you exactly what commands to put in, so it's easy.

MATH 130
CALC I FOR LIFE SCIENCE
5*****
Pros: He's such a great professor. He writes out everything on the chalkboard and is very clear in his explanations. He starts out with basic math and will work his way up to the more difficult calc concept. He's quite friendly and will meet up with you if you ask, and he also has regular office hours. Exams are generally fair.
Cons: A couple exam problems were extremely tricky (most people did not get them correct).

MATH 130
CALC I FOR LIFE SCIENCE
4****
Pros: VERY nice. He makes it very easy to go to class because he is so upbeat and entertaining. Very good teacher too!
Cons: His exam questions are very tough. Though it is based on material we have learned, the questions he chooses are the hardest ones he can find.

MATH 131
CALC II FOR LIFE SCIENCE
5*****
Pros: BEST MATH TEACHER EVER!!! I have traditionally hated math, but LOVED both calculus I and II because Justin taught it. He made it so fun to learn math, and it was accessible.

He has an awesome accent.
Cons: No cons. No room for improvement.

MATH 206
INTRODUCTION TO MATLAB
4****
Pros: He is a very nice guy and his office hours are helpful. He will respond to emails and answer your questions. The TAs can be very helpful as well.
There are three Matlab projects. The third project is a little more tricky than the other two, but they are all doable. However, it is recommended to start the projects early. The Thursday before a project is due (Sunday nights), you can turn in your project and find out if your code ran successfully or crashed. It is a good class and I would definitely recommend it. In addition, the class ends after 6.5-8 weeks. You don't need to have any knowledge in Matlab to do well in the class.

MATH 220
ELEM CALCULUS I
5*****
Quizzes in discussion once a week, but they are exactly as hard as the exams so they help prepare. Justin ( he asks you to call him his first name) is an incredible professor, he (not lying, I hate math) makes math fun. He's very charming and easy to talk to, and writes perfect notes on the board so as to make calculus as easy as 6th grade algebra. I aced the class but got a D in Calc in high school, so i guess that says something.

Great teacher

I took calculus in high school for two years, and none of it made sense until I was taught by Justin. His teaching techniques make everything incredibly easy to understand. The Webassign homework can be daunting, but it is very easy to get help on it so that you can do well. If you have to take this course I highly suggest that you try to get him. He's truly amazing.

MATH 131
CALC II FOR LIFE SCIENCE
5*****
Pros: Execllent teacher, takes questions, answers them, has a personality, is very animated, and you actually want to go to lecture. As good as a math professor as you can get.
Cons: That damn pole in the middle of the room.
Go to lecture and pay attention, and you should be fine for everything.

He makes you want to come to class.

Really Funny.

Cons: If you don't come to class, you're going to miss out.
Best teacher I ever had. Justin was such a cool teacher. I loved going to his classes and office hours. I learned so much in this class. I never get good grades but I manged a 98% overall in this class. I never every detail of the content to the point where I felt like I could teach it.

The class is great and he is a great professor. The only problem is when you have a bad TA. A bad TA will lower your grade because they give you the quizzes and group work.

MATH 445
ELEM MATH LOGIC
5*****
Pros: Informative

uses plenty of examples
Justin is probably one of the best math lecturers at UMD. Take him.

I found it pretty difficult even though the pre-req for this class was just Calc 2. He does give a lot of examples and breaks down the problems into little parts. He will also turn around and asks the class whether they understand his work. Every single homework I had, I had to attend his office hours, as did the rest of the students. He won't give you the answer, but he will guide you to understand the problem so you can learn.

There's no "book", but he does give you a link to notes which you can use for free.

If you're a comp sci or comp eng major, you'll be fine.

MATH 206
INTRODUCTION TO MATLAB
4****
Pros: Only lasts for half of a semester.

You have the option of working ahead.

Two opportunities to turn in projects for full credit, which allows for error corrections.
Justin is understanding if you are slightly past the, usually, 6pm deadline, but explains that the automated grading runs at exactly the time posted and subsequent submissions need to be in before that.

Pros: - Fantastic Teaching Methods (Lots of Examples and easy to understand concepts)

- Funny

- Nice Guy
Cons: - Large Classes

- Hard to get into his classes
Justin is by far the best professor I have every experienced. I would recommend taking one of his classes even if it isn't required because it was that great having him as a professor.

MATH 241

Pros: Suggests homework problems and then generally the rest questions are based on the first couple of questions in each section (the more basic applications). I put in a lot of work in this class but he makes the information available and doesn't expect you to teach yourself. Also he answers emails quickly.
