CHEM 101 - General Descriptive Chemistry I
Really knows what he's teaching and is a really nice guy. The class is fast-paced though and you should expect a lot of studying/reading outside of class if you want to do well.

CHEM 261 - Introduction to Organic Chemistry I
lots of review sessions, but only because his tests are extremely difficult. if you do well in the class, you'll do well on your mcat..because you'll know HOW to study. other than that, makes terribly cheesy jokes and class is almost always at 8am.

Pros: Very helpful when you go to help sessions.

he drops a test grade
Cons: Your whole grade is just your exam scores so if your not a good test taker you might not do well
He's a pretty cool professor. You can tell he has a passion for chemistry.

CHEM 102
General Descriptive Chemistry II
3***
Pros: Approachable

Enthusiastic
Cons: Tests are much harder than homework

Professor Austell is pretty good professor overall. I busted my butt in his class and came out with a C-. I'm not really the best at chemistry but for the most part in his class I felt like I understood everything pretty well and then come test time I would do absolutely awful. His tests aren't comparable to the homework he gives. Be prepared to spend a lot of time studying, working problems, and going to help sessions if you want a good grade.

Austell is the best professor for CHEM 102, very funny & enthusiastic. Your grade is based on 3 exams, online homework assignments, & the final. The exams are hard, but he tells you exactly what will be on them. Just read the book, pay attention in lecture, do the homework problems, & do the practice exams & worksheets online, & the class really isn't hard. He also gives extra points on the tests, which helps a lot.

CHEM 102
General Descriptive Chemistry II

Pros: Amazing professor, his exams are terribly difficult, i'm not really "smart" i have to work really hard for grades, and i worked terribly hard, but still didn't do very well. Great professor, you definately learn the material. His review sessions are useless, he needs to learn from Ashby.
Cons: Hard exams, useless review sessions, can be cocky.

Pros: Online homework assignments help your grade.
Cons: Must come to class.
Best Chemistry teacher at UNC, hands down. Hard class but super entertaining teacher. He forces you to learn chem like the back of your hand which you will need if moving on to upper-level chem classes. I only got a B- and I still recommend him.
