CHEM 262
Introduction to Organic Chemistry II
5*****
Pros: He gives opportunities for extra credit for exams. Drops a midterm.

He is also very eager for people to learn. If you need help he will provide as much help as he possibly can. I heard bad things about professor Jones from people who had him for 101 and 102 but he is a very helpful professor. He also answers any email questions you have.
Cons: The class of course requires a ton of work and studying. You have to due as much practice as you can and definitely read the textbook.

Occasionally the tests seemed to be graded a bit hard but that's generally how it goes with any class.
This class had 3 midterms and he drops the lowest midterm. For each midterm he give 2 quizzes randomly in class for 4 points each. They are strictly extra credit points added to the midterm. The midterms count for 60% of the grade.

The final is 30% of grade and he gives one quiz that is added onto the final exam grade.

10% of the grade are quizzes that he posts on sakai on Fridays and are due by midnight on mondays. The quizzes help keep you on track with studying

CHEM 101
General Descriptive Chemistry I
1*
Pros: I guess you learn some topics pretty well, especially Lewis Structures.
Cons: a little arrogant, not too helpful outside of help sessions or 1 on 1 help, vague, unfocused, unorganized, and unoriginal
His lectures are just painful. I can assure you that you'll be teaching yourself most of the material. The only reason I took the course with him was because it fit my time schedule despite the rumors, which are all true. The practice exams he provides don't even correspond with the material that is on the tests, and he does very little to prepare you for the exams. I will say that, given better instruction, the exams wouldn't be quite as hard. The problems in the book combined with the problems on Mastering Chemistry simply cannot compare to the problems you'll be faced with on his exams. It isn't worth taking the class with him unless you have a really great foundation in chemistry before taking the course or you are skilled in self-teaching.

CHEM 101
General Descriptive Chemistry I
1*
Pros: He drops the lowest midterm
Cons: He reviews simple concepts in class then gives you ridiculous problems for homework. His tests are difficult questions unlike the ones practiced in homework. He gives ~4 hours of homework on Thursday that's due Monday and ~4 hours of homework on Tuesday that's due Thursday, so have time on Wednesday or you are screwed. Do not take this class if you want to do well in chemistry, I took 3 years of IB chemistry in high school and had straight A's, I have a C- in his class.

CHEM 101
General Descriptive Chemistry I
3***
Pros: Very effective teacher; gets the point across and lets you know what to expect. I've heard of teachers like a thousand times worse than him. I've really enjoyed this course.
Cons: STUDY.

There's no way to predict what exactly is on the exam so be prepared for everything.

And.. a little ADD sometimes but it's funny.
Extra credit every week for one point for a tutorial on masteringchemistry.

Jones doesn't like general chemistry. He is much more of an organic chemistry kind of guy, which really shows towards the end of the semester when you get into Lewis Structures and such. However, he is willing to work with you and answer any questions to help you understand the material.
