MATH 1224H - Vector Geometry
I thought he was a bit crazy. He tries to be funny during class, but often isn't. A quote from him: "It ain't all beer and skittles."
Pros: Offers extra credit on some homework assignments. Accessible office hours. Tests are hard, but graded fairly.
Cons: If you like seeing the formula before the proof, don't take him. Spends most of class on proofs; need to teach self some material. Tests always seem to have a question designed to trick you. Very specific about the homework format, it will be time consuming. He can be unclear in office hours.

MATH 4175

Bud Brown knows three topics really well: making biscuits, cryptography, and the art of making his students pull their hair out over any assignment he gives.

Brown is a tough teacher, but he knows the material. His corny jokes and witty personality make going to class a joy, but be prepared to work.

MATH 5454
Graph Theory
5*****
Pros: Easy course with a good professor. Homework was fair. We also had the option of doing problems marked with a (+) in the textbook for extra credit. Tests were three hours at night to give us time to think about the problems, and the final was take home (timed, closed book, closed note).
Dr. Brown was a great professor. My one complaint was that the course moved quite slowly for a graduate course. Much of the material was duplicated in the Math 3134 Applied Combinatorics course. However, Dr. Brown's course was more theoretical and proof-driven than Math 3134. The material covered included the handshake lemma, cycles, paths, digraphs, multigraphs, trees, algorithms, flows and cuts, matchings, planarity, and some geometric graph theory. Aside from the geometric graph theory, all of the material is standard for an intro to graph theory course.

MATH 4134
Number Theory
4****
Pros: Some extra credit problems on homework. Programming problems included on homework.
Cons: Especially towards the end, Dr. Brown focuses mostly on theory and proofs, which are found in the book. The homework requires us to apply the logic of the proofs to the homework. More examples would have been nice.
The tests make you think, but are a lot easier than the homework. Towards the end, the homework takes a lot longer. The beginning of the course is a lot easier. Overall, I would recommend Dr. Brown for this course.

Excellent professor, best teacher I have ever had. Extremely knowledgeable and experienced. Very interesting and always made lessons on complex math entertaining. Lessons were mostly based on the proofs of subject matter while homework focused on applying formulas on topics of the course. Help was always available. Tests were incredibly difficult but manageable with a lot of studying. Not a class to take to boost your grade but definitely worth the experience of learning from a great professor.

B^2 is a great professor, and a very enjoyable lecturer. He is extremely knowledgeable, and genuinally cares about his students.

That being said, MATH4175 is extremely work intensive. His homeworks take hours, and he is a strict grader. If you have the work ethic to make it through this class though, you will really enjoy it.

MATH 4134
Number Theory
4****
Pros: He's a great, enthusiastic teacher
Cons: He schedules homeworks back to back, sometimes multiple in one week. They tend to consist of a relatively small number of problems, but take quite a long time for most students to solve. There are also programming problems, which I found to be easier than the general problems.

MATH 1224H
Vector Geometry

Pros: Great professor, loves what he teaches. Interesting class. Occasional extra credit.
Cons: Tough class. If you're not willing to work hard, this probably isn't the teacher for you.
He loves what he teaches, so he's really enthusiastic and tries to make it fun. In class, he likes to show why the formulas work the way they do, so it's mainly proofs. He sometimes gets onto tangents, but usually ties it back to the main lecture. He also cracks jokes fairly often. The homework isn't awful, but can be time consuming. Only select problems are graded. The tests are pretty hard - the material isn't bad if you've studied beforehand, but there's a lot of time pressure. If you have trouble with time pressure, he is willing to give you tips on how to make it easier, though.

MATH 1224H

Pros: He's hilarious, awesome, supportive, entertaining, cultured, interesting
Cons: he's a friend, not a teacher
Honestly, if you take 1224H you will hate yourself for probably about 8 weeks. He doesn't teach, and gives ridiculous homework. However, he really forces you to learn the material yourself and understand it.

I took this class, worked my butt off, and got an A. If you want an A, you'll have to work. Like I said, it will suck for a while, but overall the class is immensely satisfying.

MATH 4175
Cryptography
4****
Pros: The homework taught us the material and prepared us for the test.
Cons: The homework took probably 10 hours per week to do.
The material was interesting and Dr. Brown is a fun lecturer. However, this was my second most work intensive class. By the time I got to the tests though, I knew the material and they were much easier. The first unit is by far the most work intensive. Once he gets past the cryptanalysis in the first few weeks, the homework becomes more straight-forward.

Pros: He's an excellent teacher who teaches well. He's also a really great guy and makes great biscuits.
Cons: He gives a lot of homework and his homeworks are generally pretty hard. He also grades moderately harshly, but his tests aren't too bad.
His class is more math based than coding based, just something people should know.

Pros: He's enthusiastic and he'll answer any questions you have
Cons: Tests were real hard and he went too off topic during lectures. He also assigned lots of homework
Unless you really want honors credit and think you're up to it, it's probably easier to just take vector without honors

Dr. Brown is an excellent instructor. I have had him for bunches of classes and hard work always pays off. The homeworks can be tough, but make up a huge portion of the grade.

He treated it like a 3 credit hour class. The test problems are a lot harder than homework problems and in class examples. Teach yourself a lot because he think people already know a lot about vectors.
