ACIS 3314 - Tax Impact on Decisions
In the beginning, the homework was very difficult. Many people dropped it before the first test was given but the first test was very easy and the rest of the semester he graded the homework much easier. The beginning will scare you, but the rest of the class is fine.

ACIS 3314 - Tax Impact on Decisions
First test isnt too bad, second seems nearly impossible. doesnt curve very much, and grades your 10 page homework assignments for correctness, not completeness. Difficult class. avoid
Pros: seems like a good teacher, definitely knows what he is talking about
Cons: assumes we know alot more than we do, considering its the first tax class we take.

Pros: He's passionate about what he teaches and all around a nice guy
Cons: Probably the most difficult accounting professor and college professor for that matter that I have ever had.
He could probably make the class a little easier or at least make the grading a little easier. Its misleading that Koofers shows him giving mostly A's and B's in this course when the class average is hovering somewhere around a 79 with a 39 point standard deviation.

Pros: Knows a lot about taxes. Exams aren't too difficult. Allows you to make a cheat-sheet for them.
Cons: Gives you homework every 2-3 weeks and it is very time-consuming. You'll have 5 or 6 HW assignments and expect to spend anywhere from 4-8 hours on each of them (maybe longer if you don't know what you're doing). I thought his lectures were fairly boring at times.
Not much else to add here. Show up for class and try to pay attention and you should be fine. The homework is a real pain though. I'd take another professor for this class if available.

Pros: Great attitude. Very personable. Helped students anytime there was a question.
Cons: He may be a better fit for the senior level course. He often overloads the lectures with information.
Respects the students, but expects a lot from them.

This was my favorite class of the semester. The homework is hard, but the tests are not bad. The best advice I can give you is to do one extra credit article a week. You will almost certainly be able to get an A if you do that.

Pros: Nice guy, one of the smartest professors you'll meet. Pretty sure he does the tax consulting for Virginia Tech itself.
Cons: The class is hard and the subject is awful. A deadly combination that leaves you frustrated and miserable.
Overall, the class is much harder than your first tax class needs to be. If you are really interested in tax accounting, he's the guy for you. If you aren't, get out of the class. If you decide to stick with him, my suggestion to you would be to make your cheat sheets for his test off of his lecture slides that he posts of scholar. They are more helpful and he tends to focus on them more rather than the book on his tests.

Pros: Cloyd knows his material completely. Very intelligent and a nice professor. You get a note sheet on each exam
Cons: It took me about 3-4 hours to do each problem set. His tests are super hard and he doesn't really teach to help you pass the test.
