Pros: Generally nice person, knows Excel VERY well, if you ask for help she is willing to answer questions
Cons: Goes far too fast during lectures, assumes everyone has a grasp of advanced Excel features, Exams are inconsistent and grading puts too much emphasis on them, small quizzes and homework are time consuming but are almost non-existent in terms of impacting your grade.

Do well on the first 2 exams and you should be set for the hard course material towards the end. Marilyn is a nice woman and extremely friendly and approachable especially outside of class. The grades are constructed poorly though. It's a class all on EXCEL and VBA programming so I felt like the grades should be more on homeworks (which were alright) and not so much on the exams (which were difficult). Homeworks came to 25 points total and Exams were 600 points. She contstantly changes the schedule and makes class easier as you go along. I finished with a B somehow and learned a bunch about EXCEL but classes could be boring and was semi difficult.

Class is difficult plain and simple. If you're a business major who is not BIT you're basically stuck taking this class. It's a fairly easy "B" as long as you show up to class, take notes, and follow along with Marilyn's lectures. Problem is she goes FAR too quickly over the lectures and assumes everyone has a grasp of advanced Excel features. Ideally the class SHOULD be a project you work on all semester utilizing the skills she teaches you, however for some reason she only gives two exams (final and midterm) both of which are very difficult. She assigns quizzes almost weekly and they are graded but are such a small fraction of your grade you could literally fail all of them and it wouldn't matter. Also there is "homework" but it isn't graded and she gives in-class quizzes on it which are difficult. The exams themselves were difficult because the wording of the questions introduced a lot of ambiguity. You learn a lot about Excel, but the way the class is administered is poor.

Very boring class, but she tries hard to make it interest...exams are difficult and the projects take a long time to complete. However, she is very helpful and knowledgeable when talking to her during her office hours.

Marilyn is a very fair grader and a very sweet lady. The homework that she gives is not graded, but there is a quiz on what you did on the homework. Even if you cannot figure out for the life of you how to do the homework, just look over your notes and the directions to the homework and that can typically get you a 100 on the quiz as long as you understand the idea behind the HW. 1-2 of the quizzes will be dropped and the extra points earned from the quizzes dropped is kept in the calculation of your grade for your homework. Very boring class/material, but Marilyn knows her stuff if you end up paying attention.

very nice woman...almost too nice. She seems kinda gullable and the type of person that isnt very intelligent overall but has been working in her particular expertise for so long that she knows pretty much everything you can about that subject. For example, she teaches you how to use Excel for most of the class, but she uses the computer like an old person, kinda slow and doesnt use shortcuts and whatnot.

very easy to get an A, but you must go to class because some of the material you need to know for homeworks/tests are not covered in the book.

This class (personal computers) should be cake if you know anything about VB programming. As for Mrs. Griffin well she says everything twice in class, but that doesnt help if you know nothing about VB or Excel. You might like her teaching or you might hate it, but her grading is fair: Two exams with an optional final that replaces your lowest test grade. Just dont miss any homework and she sometimes gives extra credit in class (maybe 2 or 3 times a semester).

This class is very boring. Some people can get away with just studying for the exams. Do go to class because she gives extra credit. To my understanding, her class is easier than it has been in the past. The class may be easier, but the material is so boring. Don't rely on her review questions as your only study material. You actually have to read the book (which is tedious because there is a lot of information and "fluff").

Griffin seems like the type of teacher that only has knowledge in her particular area, and is not very smart otherwise. Classes are pretty hard to sit though but you must go because she does take attendance every class and goes through step by step of the material. Pretty rough class if you have no prior experience in Excel or VBA programing. 2 projects with a partner are ridiculously hard and she grades them that way as well.

Her voice can get annoying and it's hard to follow along on her demos. I recommend printing out the notes and writing them by hand so you can focus on the demos without having to jump back and forth with the demo and the notes page. Her tests are the questions she goes over in class. The projects are hard. You can take the quizzes as many times as you want and 20 pts of the quizes with count as extra credit.

About as average as you can get. Not especially nice but not mean either. Will not quiet people talking in the back of class which makes it hard to get anything out of going. Course was overhauled into huge lectures instead of small labs...most likely made material harder to grasp. I don't feel like I learned much, if anything, from this course because of the way it was taught.

For most of us, this class was a required class. Griffin knew a lot about what she was teaching, but a lot of it is boring stuff. I think the hardest things is that you need to bring you laptop to class and then you can never pay attention because you have your laptop. She is very fair, you get perfects on the homework as long as there was an effort and the tests aren't that bad.

ACIS 2504 took a lot of time. There were assigned seats in a large class in TORG. You had to bring your laptop every class. There were TA's standing in the back of class making sure no one checked facebook, AIM, or webmail. There was a quiz almost every class. Just be prepared to read 30 pages every night to prepare for a quiz.

This class is pretty boring to suffer through. She's kind of a dry teacher, but she tries hard to get you to understand. It's a lot of material all at once, though. The tests are fairly difficult as they ask for pretty minute pieces of information, so you have to study a good amount for them.

Easy class...get to drop 2 to 3 tests. Make sure you do well on the first six tests because they are a lot easier than the final few tests. If you do decently on the tests and do all the homework and reading quizzes it's pretty much impossible not to get an a or b.

She knew her stuff but the project were insanely time consuming and in-depth. She wrote the book, too so you have to know everything when it comes to the tests. She doesn't care much for students individually and class is horribly boring.

Great Teacher, although she sometimes gets ahead of herself and forgets that we're no experts in the subject matter. As long as you complete and homework and come to all the classes there's no reason not to get ATLEAST a B

She is a very hard teacher and the class is really hard, but she is very fair with her grading. It does take a long time because the concepts are difficult, but she gives you a lot of points for basically doing nothing.
