Pros: -Very easy class to get a B, a 80-89. an A is 90-100.
-Exams are worth only 50%ish of your grade, have participation, quickbook HW, presentation(easy A) to boost your grade
-Material is not hard, just a lot of memorizing (see cons)
Cons: -Hicks is the absolute definition of a boring old professor. He looks like he's 80, fragile, and should be in a retirement home sipping wine and playing Bingo. Instead he is "teaching". No one pays attention to him because he is just so so boring with a very quite and monotone voice. However, you don't need to pay attention to him because his exams are solely from the powerpoint slides and book, never from what he says. Don't be afraid if you can't pay attention and fall asleep, 100% of the students did this.
-Each chapter has around 200 powerpoint slides. You know how they teach you powerpoint slides should be interesting and be kept it to the minimal? Well the author of this textbook failed to take that course. There are at least 150 slides for each chapter. So for each test, you need to memorize 4chapters*150 slides= 600 slides.

The reason he requires participation points is because no one would show up to class...no joke, it would be an empty classroom because he is just that boring. (he is a very nice guy though, kind of your old grandpa that you just want to give a hug to)

2) Read the book instead of the powerpoint to study for the exams. I am 90% sure the exams are not written by him but rather bought from the textbook authors, so read the book. The book is much more interesting.

3) Work together on the quickbook homework. The first few assignments are easy, but then they get hard as crap and very annoying. Work with your friends to get the answers.

4) You just need a 80% average on the exams to get an A in the class, assuming you do the other things he assigns, which you should.

5) He curves around 5% points, so it really isn't that hard of a class. Very very easy to get an B in the class, a little more effort to get an A.

probably one of the most boring classes i've ever taken and it is a class you must attend every day since he takes attendance. tests aren't too difficult you just have to know the material from the book.

very sweet guy....just extremely old and extremely boring. He reads straight off of the textbook slides in a monotone voice which only serves to put everyone to sleep. However, from what I hear having hicks is much better than gettin stuck w/ any other professor. So my advice would be to bring your laptop to class so at at least you can surf the web to stay awake. Oh and lastly, you WILL need to read the book bc you will learn absolutely NOTHING from class....and w/o reading you are doomed to BOMB the tests.

Such a nice guy. He really seems to enjoy what he does and wants everyone to do well. Class can be boring, but you have to attend because he takes attendance and you get "participation points" by simply reading a sentence from the power point slides. Tests aren't terribly difficult, they come straight from the book and power points (however there are literally hundreds of pp slides). After tests, we go over them as a class and if there is a question that the class believes to be incorrect/unfair, he usually throws them out which is nice! I've gotten 4-7 points back per test. Overall, if you attend class, do well on your Quickbooks hw assignments (which aren't hard), and review the powerpoints before the exams, it should be an easy A or B.

He's a great man but talks very softly, and covers the material way too intensely. He also requires a great deal of participation, and the only way to get an A in the class is to attend class every time and ask questions.

If you have had one Hicks class, you have pretty much seen it all. Same general procedure each class, participation grades every time, tests are straight from the book, lectures are pretty bland.

Pros: -Quickbooks is easy 100%

-Can give presentation to redistribute grades away from tests

-Curves overall grades 3-4 points!
Cons: -Probably the most boring material I've learned at Tech

-Gets off topic and never finished the 200 slide powerpoints

-Hard tests
He doesn't use +/- don't know if that's a pro or con. This class is soo boring, but don't blame Dr. Hicks for this it's just the material. He will often get distracted and only cover half the material he needs to because he will start telling stories, but it doesn't really matter because the tests are entirely book based. Go to class, get easy participation points (read off the powerpoint), read the book and do Quickbooks and you'll be all right. He wants all students to get an A or B and most get A's, if you have the choice take it with Hicks he will be the easiest and the most fun. As long as you have 80% average on tests you'll get an A since tests are only 50% of grade and the other half is easy 100%. Also make sure you do the presentation because everyone gets an A on it.

a very friendly guy but not much else positive to say. easily the most boring class i've ever had. he speaks in a very monotone voice and it's so hard to follow him. he goes off on tangents quite a bit... and the quickbook assignments weren't that hard, but they were very time consuming. the book plus the quickbooks package cost quite a bit of money too... his exams are pretty easy though. i didn't much effort at all into the class and got a B.

Pros: class is so boring, don't bother paying attention because you don't need to. go to class though because class participation is a chunk of your grade. read the book or powerpoints or both for the exams, I don't really see how kids can get A's on the exams because I did both and I only got B's and an A- on the exams, but he curves a shitload at the end of the course so get like Bs and youll be guaranteed an A.

Well, considering the tests are practically just all the bold words from the book, it isn't a hard class and he's a really nice guy. Peachtree assignments are pretty easy and really all you have to do for them is get a 75% or above on each one and you'll get all the credit you can for them. He does take attendance every day and its about 25% of your grade.

boring class, dont really need to attend class although does take attendance daily and requires you to answer at least one question in class and then write it down so he knows you were there. other than that, peachtree is really easy and the exams are basically the questions at the end of the chapter. enjoy!

good teacher, class is pretty boring though. he does have participation quizzes everyday but they help your grade. the quickbook projects are pretty easy just dont do them the night before. if you read the bold words in the book and take the quizzes on the books site online then you should do fine

Pros: Class is easy
Cons: You have to go to all classes
He will have each group present for each lesson in the class. During their presentations they ask questions to the class. Before each test he will post all of those questions and answers and then use that pool of questions for his test.

Not a bad guy. He is really boring and there are like 300 slides per chapter but you won't cover them all. Do the chapter review questions on the books website and memorize them!

Pros: Your final grade actually ends up higher than you expect. Usually everyone turns up with a good grade, surprisingly
Cons: He doesn't teach. The guy just reads off 300 powerpoint slides during class. There really is no point in going to class except to collect participation points.

Also, the tests are pretty difficult. They are 60 multiple choice questions that cover a lot of material. Thankfully you don't have to have a great test average to get a good grade in the class.
The class has great material that is very interesting if you're interested in the IT portion of accounting. If you're not then you'll probably find it pretty boring and mundane like I did. Overall, I did not enjoy this class but ended up with an alright grade

He is very knowledgeable about many of the aspects of this class, but that doesn't necessarily mean you'll be good at teaching the material. He is VERY boring, but attendance points are 20% so you have to go to class. He reads from the powerpoints, and did i mention it's boring? Overall, quickbooks takes up about 3 hrs a week and the tests are also hard for some reason. Even after all the negative and scoring no higher than a 79 on any of the tests, my real average was an 87, but he ended up curving 3% so i got an A.

Pros: Great class if you're into information systems

10 point grading scale
Cons: 10 point grading scale

each chapter consist of over 150 slides.

Great class i liked it. Try your hardest on the first three exams so you dont have to take the cumulative final which is 16 chapters with over 1600 slides and a 100 multiple choice questions. Dont procrastinate doing quickbooks because if you dont get your figures right you'll spend another hour or so redoing it.
