2116 I found, at least for myself, harder than 2115 despite Easterwood not administering the class with her 26 different answer choices for each question. However, I had a MUCH better TA for 2115 than 2116 so that's likely why. All my TA did was read off the powerpoints, talk about how you should make flashcards for vocabulary terms, and failed to really "teach" rather than just regurgitate what was already said in the book. And by the way it's still the same online homework except it's through "Cengage" which is terrible. It only gives you one shot to check your answers and the homework questions are VERY difficult compared to the exam material. In fact, I'd say about 50 to 60 percent of the homework material wasn't even touched on the exams. Overall, the exams Jenkins gave were much easier than Easterwood's (only four answer choices, lots of simple vocabulary, no hard calculations, very straightforward) just hope you get a good TA.

Pros: I had Professor Jenkins for graduate level Auditing Theory. This man knows his stuff and is enthusiastic and able to communicate what would be considered a dry topic in an exciting, comprehensive, and simplified way. Probably one of the best professors I have ever seen at Virginia Tech.
Cons: The quizzes and exams are terribly technical and write out of the AICPA Auditing Standards; however their difficulty is a good indication of what to expect on the CPA exam.

Pros: Very knowledgeable in the subject, funny and tries to make the class interesting
Cons: only 2 exams and a case grade
Professor Jenkins is awesome. He knows that the material is boring but tries to keep the class participating through discussion and you never know what will come out of his mouth during class. He is one of the best professors i have had.

Really, really great professor. Probably the best overall professor in terms of knowledge and teaching ability in the accounting department. A huge step up for those of you who have had Yardley.

Pros: -Exams and HW much easier than Easterwood.

Cons: -Pop Quizzes at least once a week.

-Final Exam over the Entire Book!

-You have to go to class even though it is extremely easy to learn on your own.

-Should be an online class.
Tips

-Read the PowerPoints 10 times and take the online quizzes before the Exams to be guaranteed a good grade.

-Go to class for the Pop Quizzes. I tried to only go on quiz days and was successful for half of the semester by simply not showing up the first day of a new chapter and the day after a quiz, but they caught on to others doing the same and began having them back to back and on just about any day. If your TA starts watching the clock a lot it usually means there is going to be a quiz. Some clever students would take the latest class and read a early-bird friend's twitter to avoid showing up on days without a quiz.

-HW is simple just remember to do it,

-Pay attention to the material after the second exam because it is 50% of your final exam.

Pros: He is very nice, funny, knowledgeable about auditing, and trying to make every student learn accounting.

Out of the professors for auditing, he is by far the best. And one of the best professors in the accounting department.

Class is not a lot of work for a senior level class (there is cases maybe once every other week which take 30 mins to do).

Exams are pretty straight forward. You need to take a lot of notes in class and read the textbook (which is the most boring, useless, over-worded textbook I have every read)
Cons: Only have two exams. If you bomb one, your grade is screwed.

Pros: Very nice professor and easy to talk to.

Tells stories of experiences he had while working as an auditor.

Made dry auditing material more interesting
Cons: There are only 2 tests, a final and cases that make up your grade.
Dr. Jenkins is a wonderful professor. He has lots of real world experience to share with the class and has a sense of humor. Really enjoyed taking his class. I highly recommend taking Dr. Jenkins for Financial Statement Auditing class.

Pros: I had the same T.A. as I did for 2115 (JoAnn Garcia) and I really liked the way she worked us conceptually through problems. I didn't go to class much at the end of the semester, but I did read the chapters and go through the powerpoints and I did fine.
Cons: Homework can be tedious and annoying sometimes but it does help. Also, the TAs don't make the exams and don't see them beforehand so you can feel like you're going into the exams blind.

Auditing Theory

Pros: No book

Easy to pay attention to
Cons: read auditing standards
There is no textbook for his class, just a CAST workbook for group assignments. He expects the auditing standards AU-Cs to be read before each class. He will give short quizzes on them every few classes. If you read the standards, take decent notes on them, and pay attention in class, his exams are not bad at all. I really enjoyed his class. He is very funny!

Pros: Easier than the other professor for this class, from what I've heard.
Cons: None that I can think of.
One of the best professors I've had at VT. Jenkins does his best to make a boring topic interesting. The case studies are half your grade and for the most part, they're easy.

Professor Jenkins is definitely one of the best professors in Pamplin. He genuinely cares about his students learning the material, and he's very open to any questions. He also explains concepts well, and you know what to expect in his class.

This is a very difficult class, but it is not impossible. You should be ready to study about 20 hours for the final which is cumulative and on 13 chapters. This class will really test your work ethic. Be ready to study and work hard!
