I totally slept through Exam 2 on excel and still got an A!! I'm not kidding, I took this class Fall 2006 and received a zero on exam 2. The way to get an solid easy A is to take the practice quizzes on blackboard until you get 100's every time, th...

Pros: The website she has created for the class makes things pretty straightforward. Jean is pretty organized so that is nice.
Cons: Jean is way too concerned about what professor rating sites such as koofers or ratemyprofessor say about her, so she changes her class according to what these sites say. She also talks way too fast in class which makes you not want to go because you cant possibly take good notes based on how fast she covers the material. Likewise, the textbook is incredibly dry if you aren't interested in computers, databases, and information systems, etc., and the tests were pretty hard based on the material in the book and what she covered.

I would not recommend this class for anyone other than business majors. The projects are easy and straightforward, but the tests are slightly difficult, and the class is BORING and early. The most helpful review is no longer relevant so honestly, take it from someone who got an A in the class now, I would completely disregard that. You need to read the textbook and take meticulous notes because some of her questions on the test are extremely specific, and you need to go to class and take good notes (good luck with that) as well.

Pros: Easy material
Cons: Awful teacher

Terrible grading system

Uses little kids to her advantage
She does not teach the material but rather expects students to learn from the useless textbook. Lectures are very boring and students have little excitement in class which promotes other work in class. Tests have little to do with material learned in class and are excruciatingly confusing. Her grading system promotes failure as the tests are only 10 questions each, and make up 90% of the grade. And if you have her you will understand the little kids thing...

Pros: I love Jean! She's very organized and straight-forward. She tells you everything you need to do to get an A. She's friendly and helpful if you go and ask her for help or questions.
Cons: The textbook reading can be a bit dry and you actually have to study for the exams.
On the first exam I didn't read the textbook at all and just took practice quizzes and got an 88. I studied for the next one with reading the textbook, but not the SimText and got an 88, then for the last exam I studied both text readings, took practice quizzes, and even made flashcards and got a 94. Make sure you take the time to do the extra credit that go with the projects, every point matters in the end. The problem students have with this class is not Jean nor the material, it's the fact that most students try to skip the class and still expect to get an A (not gonna happen with this class, sorry). Overall I love Jean!

Pros: Lacoste is knowledagble. Material isn't too difficult if an adequate amount of effort is put in.
Cons: Exceedingly boring.
Don't take this class unless its required or you have a passion for this particular brand of technological nonsense. Going to class is nearly pointless except for the participation points and the occassional portion of her lecture is not mentioned her book. Otherwise, Lacoste tends to almost exactly read from her text book. Don't wait until the last minute to start studying for her exams. Although the informaton itself isn't tremendously difficult, Mean Jean purposefully tries to trick you. Be careful when actually taking the exam because even the wording of her questions are sometimes initially decieving. Do all the extra credit on the projects. Even though its only one extra point per project, it adds up at the end of the semester. Lacoste won't bump your final grade, even if your less than one point from the next letter. If you take her class, sit in the back for the first half of the semester and then relocate to the front for the remainder. Lacoste will look completely different close up. Its almost comical.

Anybody who calls her Mean Jean is salty they didn't get an A in this class. This class is terribly easy and if you are failing, you are probably not set out to be a business major. First off, she gives a ton of extra credit and drops so many things. Theres 11 questions on exams but only grades 10, she drops the lowest exam grade, she gives you an extra point if you complete all the SimNets and this semester she gave everyone an extra point on one of the exams because she fucked up. Not only this but on the final only 30 questions out of 35 were graded AND there were 3 extra credit opportunities. There's online video lectures you can do which is a condensed version of lectures in class - which yes, essentially you can still get an A in this class and never physically show up because the video lectures are thorough and cover exactly what you need to know. Not only this but the project is optional. Seriously!!!! There is an alarming number of people who don't have A's in this class even though she gives you so many chances to. Just try.

Lacoste is a very high strung person but she is very knowledgeable in the subject material. That being said this class is totally pointless but is mandatory of all business majors. The class covers topics such as how to make a powerpoint presentation, excel spreadsheet, and a lot of technical jargon that you will never use again. I don't think I came away with anything particularly useful but some of the application review is helpful. There is a good deal of homework and those are some of the easiest points to get. Simply completing the assignments will a fractional degree of accuracy will give you the full credit. For each class you go to you will get 1 point of extra credit up to 20 points which equals 5 percentage points on the final. The tests are very straightforward just study the online quizzes and you'll be set. This will not be your favorite class but suck it up because everyone has to take it.

Pros: -Jean is very knowledgeable and is very passionate about what she teaches -Very good with teaching the information -Good about telling you what's on the test -Excellent power point lectures
Cons: -Boring if you are not into computers -Have to take this class if you are a business major -The second excel project is difficult and confusing -There is a lot of homework, but you need to make sure you it and also do the extra credit; extra credit pays off in the end -Her tests can have a lot of information on them
Make sure to study her power points for her test. The book that is mostly used is her book on the projects for her tests. Also, make sure to do all of the extra credit because it helps your grade in the end. It could be a difference in a letter grade.

Attendance was required but the material she went over in class was useless. The test questions seemed to be from the textbook company. I did the online quizzes from the textbook website and easily got an A.

Pros: Despite what you may hear, I think Jean is a good professor. Looking back, she taught me the most about business this semester and kind of gave me a taste of what the next ACIS class will incorporate. You can get away with skipping her classes, even though attendance is taken it doesnt count for any grades. Also, she stays 10+ minutes before and after class for questions and confusion.
Cons: People complain about jean a lot which I can understand because its an early class and her exams are annoying and her projects are tedious. You only have 10 minutes for 10 application multiple choice questions which sucks because every question you get wrong is a letter grade. Unfortunately, I was one exam question off from getting an A- in the class so its a lot of pressure. You do have to read the book to understand most concepts because they are really confusing to someone who has never dealt with information systems. She should really dumb it down since it is an intro class, but i suggest reading the book before class so you have a general idea of whats going on.

Pros: Information is sort of common sense and there's not an excessive amount to learn. You do NOT have to go to class (as of Fall 2015) because she posts entire lectures online. Extra credit opportunities towards the end.
Cons: Exams are incredibly specific and tend to mostly come from random examples given in class. Only 11 questions on each exam so if you miss 4 questions, you're screwed. Studying is difficult because you never know what she will focus on for the exam. Jean is very snarky and has an attitude, which translates to exams where it feels like she's trying to trick you.
With the updated class format (as of Fall 2015), you do NOT have to do the project that everyone hated in the past. Personally, I say don't do it because I've heard it doesn't help anyways. Always do the Simnet assignments because they help make up lost points for exams. I don't recommend going to class because it's 500+ people and completely useless; you won't be able to take notes anyways because Jean moves too fast. The textbook is weird...you need it but you don't because most of her tests cover lecture information anyways. This class was overall really annoying and frustrating because no matter how hard you try, you could still screw up.

Pros: Unnecessarily large amounts of time to complete projects

Very open/friendly when you visit her office

Final is optional because it increases grade by only 1% (this may be new or situational by semester, ask about it)
Cons: Literally the worst 'textbook' I've ever read from - dry, feels outdated even though it's new, I can't even remember what I learned from it

Only 1 point extra credit on projects; she will NOT pad your grade by any other means, no matter how borderline your letter grade is

The letter grades are only A, B, C, etc. So A-, B+, etc. do no exist

Terrible class, but she does a presentable job as a teacher. I had a lot of difficulty motivating myself not to skip her class. If you can, at least go in with your computer, with the lecture powerpoint on it, and follow along. Brownie points if you type notes under each slide, because that means you're actually engaging with whatever dull topic is being taught. I promise, it'll help if you at least learn something that morning. Trust me, it'll help for when it comes time to knuckle down and read the text for the exam and you find yourself wondering, "What the hell is this I'm reading?"

Jean knows what she's talking about and is interested in the subject, but is very annoying. Her voice is very unpleasantly high and intense. Her lectures are very boring and notes are posted online. She never takes attendence.

I went to all classes leading up to the first exam, and realized I had wasted my mornings by getting up for the class. Hardly anything on the test was from her notes - most of it is from the book's companion website (Practice Quizzes online). I stopped going to class after that. So, if you read the book and take the online quizzes, you'll know basically just as much for the test as someone who attends class regularly.

I would say it does help slightly to attend, but it'll only make maybe a 4-6% difference in your exam average.

I also hate how her grading scale is either A, B, C, D, or F. Nothing in between (no minuses of pluses).

She is very hard to pay attention to so early in the morning. She rambles on and on about the subject and doesn't seem to try and make it very interesting. If you go to class, read a little bit, and take good notes, you should do fine on the exams. The homework assignments are VERY easy and so are the extra credits on them so DO IT! It is a great grade booster. Also, the projects are easy and so are the extra credits on those. So DO IT! Other than that, it's a relatively tough class because it is hard to follow the subject matter and feel interested. So long as you do all of the reading, take great lecture notes, and do all the projects and respective extra credit, you can pull off an A no problem.

For one, it takes her about 5x the normal sentence length to say one simple sentence. Also she changed her test format from the first test being all based on actual information learned from the book (which I did well on without attending class) to being all about random videos watched in class (as in the answer was: the video was about baking)... which I failed. So basically no one goes to class, no one actually knows how to do the homeworks... but you'll get through it. And I'm sure going to class and reading the Microsoft Office books are a great help. I wouldn't know.

Overall, not a bad experience. Her tests had some difficult questions, but if you read over the book, understand the concepts on the slides she presents in class, and do well on the homework, you should be fine. The first few HW application activities are easy, then Excel and Database are a but more complicated. I would definitely recommend attending class regularly. She includes things on the exams that could have only been know by those who attended the lecture. Online question help in preparation as well. For our class, no curve or extra credit opportunities.

Pros: -Has plenty of knowledge regarding subject

-Self Study quizzes on Scholar to help you prepare for exam

Cons: -Exams are difficult, MUST study hard for them in order to do well.

-Class is boring, especially early in the morning.

She seems to be very nice but she does a great job of making her class uninteresting and boring. I managed to get an A in the course but that was from studying for hours before an exam and taking notes as much as possible in class.

Exams aren't too bad if you study and went to class, but each is harder than the previous one. The projects can usually be completed in an hour or two and they have minimal impact on your grade anyway. It is difficult to make it to class because it's so early in the morning, the topic can be dull, and she doesn't take attendance but it is definitely worth it to go to class.

she's very enthusiastic but the material is very boring. i felt like the class was pointless... not hard at all to get a B in though, and with a little effort you'll probably get an A... go to class though, because she'll throw some exam questions on there that you'll only get by going to class (like about videos she'll show, for example)

I have heard that mean Jean has seriously dumbed down this class. It is obvious if you look at the grade distributions...they went up an entire letter grade in one semester! This class used to be torture...but now I heard you don't have to bother going and just do practice quizzes for an easy A on the tests.
