Pros: Pros- occasionally brings tea and cookies to class.
Cons: Cons- Don't get me started. This woman has no earthly idea what she's talking about. She's poorly prepared, if prepared at all. She's inconsistent in grading and in her commentary on literature. I can't believe she has a Master's degree. She is not qualified to teach this REQUIRED course for English majors. She tells you to fix parts of a paper, then marks them wrong again after you fix them. Her grading is entirely too harsh and I feel that this has been a major waste of my time.

Prepare yourself for some entirely typical literature, because there is absolutely no creativity in the selection of reading materials. Its almost like she went to Barnes and Noble, closed her eyes, and grabbed four random classics. BLEH.

Pros: NONE. Avoid this teacher at all costs!
Cons: She should teach a lower level course. She is not made for college level students or our questions. If she asks you a question about the reading and you don't know it and want to know the right answer, she will not give it to you. She can be rude and does not grade fairly. She is very scatterbrained and unorganized. She also waits to try and do new computer stuff in the class room, taking up valuable classroom time. If you are lucky enough to get a meeting with her before your paper is due, she will tell you to correct things (which you correct) then she gives you a bad grade for something she did not even mark when she edited it in the meeting. If you can take this class with someone else... DO IT

Professor LeCorre should be a high school teacher, but does not have the qualifications to conduct a college level course. She teaches down to her students by summarizing the plot of the literature rather than encouraging any kind of "out of the box" thinking. She is very critical in her grading, but never comes out and tells you what exactly she is looking for - your papers will be bleeding with grammar mistakes that are not explained. She allows you to redo your papers, but they almost never come back higher than then original grade. DO NOT TAKE her classes, she is awful. Take a teacher you are actually going to learn from.

I would never ever again take a class with LeCorre. She is basically crazy and has no idea what she is talking about. She sends out a million emails a day and yet never really manages to answer your questions. When you return in work she will change things she told you to fix in the first place. This class was way too much work and really not worth it.

She never knows what she's talking about. She basically teaches the class from other people's handouts. If you communicate with her you can probably get a good grade.

Pros: Nice

Always available for help
Cons: Heavy Workload
When I first looked at these reviews before I had Le Corre, I was scared to go to class. However, I must have been in a really good class because she was always nice to us. She brought us candy on Halloween, and she frequently let the class decide how we wanted to do something. She would let us get in groups to discuss what we read the night before, and then we would sum it up for the class. It REALLY, TRULY helps you prepare for your papers because you can clear up any misconceptions, as well as see what other students think. Partnered work is very frequent and helpful because she lets you do peer review. She is always more than willing to help you if you have questions, so don't be afraid to ask! As well as the papers, you do one step at a time. You will gather your ideas, and match them with a part of the story you're reading. Then you will create an outline, do a rough draft, and turn in a final. She even creates documents telling you step for step what you should include in your essay.

Overall, don't be scared based on other reviews! Read your assignments, and speak up in class. It will be a wonderful semester if you do!

ENGL 1106
First-Year Writing
5*****
This class was really relaxed, we only had 3 big assignments. A book to read and talk about in class, a research paper (the majority of the grade for the semester), and a really easy group project at the end. All of these assignments had little assignments that added up to the entire grade for the particular assignment, so that the final product of the assignment wasn't a mass of the grade. We didn't have any busy work like a lot of my friends' english teachers had assigned. I would definitely recommend Prof Cochran if you want an easy english class next semester.

Pros: Definitely seem to know her stuff.... If not, she is good at pontificating. But I doubt that. Perhaps it's the age that's doing her wrong. She is energetic and talks very very much.
Cons: She seems bipolar...

She is a dictator who wants everything her way. As stated by many other raters, go meet her. She'll write the paper for you. In addition, do not, DO NOT ever reason or counter reason anything about your essay. She'll give you the take it or leave it speech and make sure that you take it. I felt a bit threatened today.

Pros: - Super passionate about the subject

- Pretty quirky

- Extremely helpful outside of class, will practically write your paper for you if you go see her during office hours before a major assignment is due
Cons: - Insane workload

- Weird grader (ex. takes off .1 of a point for random reason on homework assignments)

- Annoying about missing class
Overall, it is not a bad class. As long as you can do busy work, you'll do fine in it. If you have to take the class for your major, try to take it with another professor.

Cons: -Aggressive

-Bombastic

-Intimidating

-Unwelcoming

-Yet, boring.
I think she means well, but one of my least favorite courses I ever took at VT. She was so scary--I felt like I walked into a room full of pitbulls. Very intimidating. And her lectures were WAY TO FAST. I think surveys should be structured a little more differently. She seemed to throw her opinion in way too much about an author, which I didn't enjoy. Boring. BORING.

The books are also really interesting and she brings you food.
Cons: There is a lot of writing and reading but your and English Major so it's nothing that you can't handle.
