Rosenzweig is arrogant and hard to learn from. I found his lectures to be scattered and difficult to follow, as well as his notes unhelpful for the exams. Hard, hard, hard.

Dr. Mike is a really cool professor. Lecture can get kind of boring, but he tries to lighten it up with random movies. (Recently we've been watching Planet Earth stuff..). He really knows what he's talking about, and likes to relate new material back to what's already been taught. It's really easy to talk to him about grades/exams/what just went on in class/etc. Some kids love him, some kids hate him.

Its either you hate him or you love him. I personally didn't like him. He was rude to his students. He would insult the kids and assume that they were getting bad grades if they sat in the back of the room (GLC auditorium). He would focus alot of his lectures on the application of the things we were learning which didn't really help or interest me at all. This material wasn't even present on the tests. In order to do well on the tests, you would need to read and re-read the book. Going to class was pointless. Overall, take someone else. Dr. Simmons and Dr. Buikema. are both excellent professors.

Pros: Seems to know material well, but can't communicate it well
Cons: Bad at explaining material

Arrogant

Hard to communicate with

He's very arrogant, which can make communication with him very difficult, especially if you struggle with the material and need to ask questions. I did well in this class and did read the textbook, but if I had to re-take it, I would pick another professor who is more open to helping and working with his students. His ability to explain the material was sub-par, and asking him for clarification can be difficult because of his attitude. He seems to know the material well, but he doesn't know how to teach it or explain it.

Dr. Mike definately KNOWS what he is talking about and explains it well. He is also funny and has unique applications for the subject matter. He is a fair teacher and if you need him he will make himself availble. Read through his outlines definately!

Overall a good professor, can deviate from topics for a while though. Always, keep on top of the lecture notes, and studies each day, then the exam should be fine.

Pros: He has a different way of teaching, he is very conceptual in his teaching methods and he expects you to be able to apply these concepts to what you do in class. The way he teaches completely changed and better improved the way I learn. He gives you quizzes periodically but, you usually get to work with people around you. He has superb review sessions...ATTEND THEM!
Cons: For my class, 90% of your grade, was tests. 10% was composed of quizzes. So if you bomb one test, it can most certainly harm your chances of a 4.0. His tests are pretty hefty, they cause you to think in a whole different manner than you might be used to. He is a wikipedia teacher, he really believes that all of biology can be learned from applying stuff from wikipedia!

Pros: Rosenzweig is an awesome teacher who knows his material. If you need help, he will talk to you if you make yourself available. The class activities and online lecture quizzes will help your grade. Tests easy if you know the material/had AP biology in high school. Reviews before test are very helpful.
Cons: Online lectures take awhile to do and are done outside of class. My TA didn't let us picture of group for the in-class activities so you would sometimes be stuck with people who wouldn't contribute/didn't know the material.
I would recommend Dr. Mike to anyone who will be taking his class. Compared to other professors, his class average for test scores are higher and he takes time during the lectures to explain the material.

Pros: The at-home quizzes are easy and so is the in class work which comes out to ~another test grade

He can sometimes...rarely...be funny in class.
Cons: A lot of the time what he covers in the reviews is not on the tests

He also likes to focus on one subject more heavily than anything else on each test. Good luck trying to guess what it is. (literally, on a 50 question test, he mentioned ferns/mosses maybe 3 times in the lecture...yeah that turned into 10 questions on the test
He's not that great of a teacher, but not that bad of one either. All the take-home quizzes and graded in-class assignment (pretty easy) can help boost your grade. Good luck on the tests though

Dr. Mike is really helpful and personable, and you can tell he wants his students to do well. You have to keep up with the lecture videos, but if you do those and pay attention to his overviews in class, you should be okay. His review sessions before the test tell you exactly what you need to know for the exam and he gives you a review guide and a practice test (and several of the questions are on the real test). He tries his hardest to make biology interesting and has really weird but funny shirts pertaining to every single lecture

He is nice and funny, but the class aspect of his teaching is pointless when it comes to doing well on his tests. Overall, if you want to do well, read the book because no matter how much you use/study his notes and yours or listen in class, he doesn't use any of that on the test.

Great and interesting professor! He has some cool t-shirts and has a lot of real-life examples of the topics we learn, which can help you understand the material if you pay attention to class. The material can be boring though. The class is a flipped classroom so you take notes as homework and an 8 minute 5 question quiz after each lesson. There are about 25 quizzes and they all count for 5% of your overall grade and the lowest 2 get dropped so its nothing to really stress about. The class is where you go over the notes you should have taken the day before, do some polling questions (questions you get wrong do not count against you, but it's not extra credit either, more like an attendance grade), and do an activity with 2-3 other people about the lecture and homework. TA's can help you with the activity if you need it. The activities are 20% of your overall grade, but the lowest 2 get dropped. You can typically get out of class about 10-15 minutes before its officially over. He has review sessions every night before an exam that starts at 8 pm and ends at 10 pm. Exams are 70% of your grade and there are 4, none of which get dropped. They are 50 multiple choice questions, some questions are from polling or from the review guide he sends out. the final exam has 80 multiple choice questions about what you learned throughout the semester. If you were in IB biology and did very well (5 or above in exam), you're pretty much set for this semester. Don't slack off with the video lectures! Buying the textbook is unnecessary because you are taught whatever you need to know in the lectures and he posts pages from an online textbook for each lecture if you need more help understanding something (I never used them).

Pros: -Interesting/funny guy

-Shows real-life applications

-Rewards students for coming to office hours
Cons: -Essentially you teach yourself the material

-In class activities are a majority of the time, he only lectures for ~30 minutes and it's usually specific to the activity

-Test material usually is different from activities
Dr. Mike is a really nice guy; at first, he didn't seem very approachable, but after going to his office hours, I liked him. This class is very difficult, especially if you did not take AP Bio in high school. It is a "flip classroom" style class where you learn the material on your own by watching a video lecture ~20 minutes and read and take a 5-question quiz before each class. He only lectures for about 30 minutes in class and the rest of the time is spent with your group completing an activity. These activities are rarely straight-forward and really require you to be knowledgeable about the subject. It's interesting to learn the real life applications of the biology material, however, this information is rarely the focus of his tests, which makes this class hard.

Pros: Relates topics in class to things going on in the world.

Really nice guy

Wears cool shirts
Cons: Gets mad at computers blinking/changing screens which wastes the time in class that he could be teaching.

His concept maps can be hard as hell and dont really help with what's on the exams.

You can study the notes, go to every class, get As on the quizzes and concept maps, and still find yourself struggling with the exams. He leaves you feeling like you know the material, but come exam time, you'll read a question and feel totally lost. His exam study sessions did not help me, but heard it was helpful to others.

Pros: Amazing teacher that really cares that you learn the subject! He isn't focused on research like other Biology professors at Tech. Instead, he enjoys teaching. Furthermore, he is great at giving real life examples to the classroom in order to better explain the material.
Cons: The tests are pretty hard... but he gives you practice tests and review sheets that cover the material.
Awesome professo,r I would choose him if you want to actually understand the material. His tests are hard but if you put the work in his class will be very beneficial to anyone looking to go into a medical career.

Pros: Very outgoing and lively lecture. Has a t-shirt to coordinate with every class' lecture. Adds personal touches to the lecture
Cons: Material difficult to grasp. Must watch online lecture videos and take quiz prior to coming to class.
As compared to my friends Dr. Mike is the best professor teaching this class. His exams are slightly less challenging than other professors and he is often entertaining during his lectures. One tip, do not wait until the last minute to watch the lectures they can take up to several hours.

Pros: He really does seem to understand the subject
Cons: He teaches in a very scattered way. It's very difficult to take notes- and in turn to pay attention
He doesn't seem to care about his students. However, he does make himself available through IM. I took 3 years of biology in high school. I was only able to get a B in this course. A general biology class should not be so taxing in my opinion.

Pros: I loved Dr. Mike's class. If you go to class, complete the assigned activities and online quizzes getting a good grade is easy. His review sessions were extremely helpful. The material he covers and iClicker questions are the majority of what's on the exams along with preparation quiz questions. He knows what he's talking about and wants you to do well in his class!
