Professor Snizek definitely knows his stuff. I've had a little bit of a hard time with the tests. It's important to read the book and more beneficial if you read it before the lecture. He's not very available to talk, from what I've experienced because if you have any questions about the class, you have to ask his TA. Nothing is graded in the class except for the 3 out of 4 exams. If you have a grade you are satisfied with after the 3rd exam, you don't have to take the 4th, but you still have to attend certain lectures he specifies. This isn't to scare anyone off, because I know some people that don't have a very difficult time in the class, but def. read the chapters and take good notes.

Very interesting guy...tests are hard but one out of four is dropped and he gives ten extra credit points out of 150 (so adds 7.5 to your grade) if you attend class and submit a comment or question about the lecture. One side note: you have to do the reading for this class!! Made a required class that could have been boring not so bad!

This is my favorite class. Snizek makes his lectures interesting and the class fair with his extra credit mailbags. (Make sure to do the mailbags, they will boost your grade.) Pay attention to his stories because they will show up on his exams. He grades you on the best 3/4 exams. So, if you do well enough on the first 3 exams you won't have to take the final. Also, take his advice and offer to assist him in his research. If you take intro to sociology from any other instructor you are making a bad choice.

Most of the material on tests comes from lectures, especially numerical figures. Lectures are just that...a time of lecturing, not of discussion. You need to attend every class to do well on the tests, but do not expect an interactive forum. Also, if it matters to you, the professor is fairly liberal, and could care less what others think. He is however, a knowledgeable instructor when it comes to the subject matter.

Pros: Snizek is the best teacher I've ever had at Tech. Truly a remarkable guy. He gives 4 exams, but if you get good grades on the first 3, you don't have to take the last one and just have to come to 4 classes or something like that. His exams come straight from his notes, which are all very interesting.
Cons: You sometimes wonder where he gets his facts, but all in all, this professor is the best at Tech in my opinion.

The exam is usually half lecture, half from book and then two bonus questions. You need to go to every class. The TA doesn't take notes and Snizek's office hours are very limited and only in the morning. It's a great class but if you're use to get A's and will freak out if you get a B or C, you may want to rethink taking it.

He pulls questions from both the book and his lectures, the majority are from lectures. He will tell you how many of each if you ask. They will be clearly separated on tests. He drops the worst of the four exams or you can opt to skip the final. Take good notes on everything he says in class (including examples of things).

Great teacher, pulls off a few good jokes in lecture but overall the subject is kind of boring at times. He drops your lowest test grade but if you want to do well on the tests you have to take lots of notes in lecture and read a ton of pages from the book. Still I recommend the class if you need to fill an area 3.

Just take notes on everything he says. I exempted the final because of the extra credit he gives. You have to go to class in order to do well on the tests. I worked hard the first 3/4 of the semester and then coasted through finals since I didn't have to take it. Great guy! He is hilarious!!

I love this class. Mr. Snizek really knows what he is talking about and I am always interested in his lectures. The tests are pretty easy and are divided up into lecture and text questions, so you do have to read the book. But I really recommend taking this class.

awesome teacher, I would give him professor of the year award. He is funny in class, makes a lot of jokes and keeps you entertained and wanting to hear more, a lot of questions on test he will say in class "this might be a test problem". Best teacher

Pros: lectures aren't too boring

only graded items are 3 out of your 4 top tests
Cons: professor Snizek is a little on the socialist side
class wasn't too bad. I didn't try to hard to get an A. Only thing is Professor Snizek seams a little socialist in his teaching but guess that's in the name socialist-ology. Let the class in that I got an A but being a hardcore conservative, I hate sociology as a subject.

Pros: As long as you come to class, take notes and study them it's an easy to get an A.
Cons: Must come to class and take good notes because that's where the exam questions come from.
Dr. Snizek is the best professor I've had at Tech. I loved coming to his class. His lectures were interesting and he always had a story

Pros: Very interesting material. Can opt out of last test. Maximum of only 4 tests to worry about.
Cons: Although the reading isn't too much, you have to really read it because the questions that are pulled for the test can be pretty random.
One of my favorite classes and Snizek was probably my favorite professor.

Pros: He's knowledgeable, has well prepared powerpoints, and occasionally some funny comments.
Cons: He's horrible at communicating his knowledge. His exams are ridiculous and your entire grade depends on 3 exams.
His class was so horrible, I had to withdraw so it wouldn't kill my GPA completely.

Pros: He clearly knows what he's talking about and has a great interest in the subject. He's a great professor and uses examples that interest the students most of the time
Cons: Sometimes he babbles on a bit about some studies, but that's not necessarily bad. Breaks up the lesson a bit.

Pros: Keeps you very interested during lecture. You can opt out of the Final.
Cons: Exams are hard.
For an Intro level class, I feel like it is difficult. You NEED to attend lecture, as he will tell you many things not in the text that WILL be on the exams.
