SOC 3004 - Social Inequality
Do well on the papers and you will be fine in the class
Pros: I took it online. It wasn't too bad. I barely read the book and just browsed it while taking the quizzes and also used it a little for sources in the 4 papers. Ended up getting a B and not too much time was put into the class.
Cons: There are a ton of quizzes.

Most tedious instructions ever....literally like an instruction booklet

Most of the timed 10 question quizzes = 40 pages of reading

I would rather mow my lawn and pick grass for a living than take another tediously frustrating class by this prof.

I would rather mow my lawn and pick grass for a living than take another tediously frustrating class by this prof.

It takes more time to read his bountiful of instructions than to actually write the papers and take the quizzes

p.s. A rather weird fact: he wants a picture of you included in your first essay......a little invasive I may say

Pros: Enthusiastic about the topic

Related to current movements
Cons: Reads straight off the power point

VERY boring

No study guides or koofers
He doesn't do a very good job of keeping the class's interest, and this doesn't appear to bother him. The exams are very detail-oriented, so it's hard to study for them.

Pros: super nice

wants you to learn

shows numerous video clips

very flexible

options to choose between project or papers

keeps you informed
Cons: talks just to talk

pretty monotone and dry voice

boring and disengaging

For three hours a week, I want to smash my head into the desk and end my suffering in this class. He takes attendance and his exams are based on class material, although you can still pass without paying any attention at all. He's super nice which makes it so much harder to hate the class but it's just not that great a class. Heavy workload of readings which he checks with quizzes and writing assignments, but he tells you when to prepare for them and they're easy.

I wrote this while trying to get through his class one day:

*imagine telling someone what you did for breakfast*

normal person: "i had a bowl of cinnamon toast crunch"

wimberley: "i grabbed a bowl for my cinnamon toast crunch, which by the way is my favorite cereal, actually I had to run to the store to buy more because I just ran out earlier in the week. So, I poured the cereal and then grabbed the milk, and I went to pour it but it smelt like it was about to go sour, except the sell by date wasn't until next week. Maybe I should have bought some when I got the cereal. Anyways, I poured the milk, probably about a cup or so, really it was just the proper cereal to milk ratio, and I was very excited to eat it. So then I grabbed a spoon and sat down to eat the cereal."

All of this in a boring manner mixed with awkward laughter and more redundancy. Save yourself from the pain and agony.

He isn't a very good professor.. He doesn't get things across well and he assigns like five 10 pages articles a night that are very dense and expects you to understand. He fixates on certain things and only covers those. He gives you writing assignments that he decides on class day if he is going to take them up. You have to do a lot of work to get participation credit and its not a very interesting class.

This class was boring, and you waste a lot of paper printing out the articles. Some of the topics are interesting, and there is a lot of class discussion.

Pros: You don't have to read the material to get a pretty good grade on the quizzes.
Cons: Boring class. Professor Wimberley reads striaght off his powerpoints. Material lectured could be interested but the way it is presented it's hard to pay attention. Most of class brings their laptop and goes on websites the whole time. Attendance counts.
